some of the tactics use by the Manics definitely take advantage of the fans

for the acoustic gig/Q&A, there are both bundle tickets with a physical copy and regular tickets, so thats fine, although I'm not sure how many regular tickets are there, think it's limited.

but they also announced a new tour gig, and in order to get pre-sale tix, you need to buy the album.. which is a rip-off for fans that bought it on day 1

same applies for steps though?

no one is forcing you to buy multiple formats

unless you're Joseph x

Central Cee is high on Hot Hits playlist (#16). That must have helped it debut high as well. Most songs take several weeks or months to get that high on Hot Hits

have Steps also released new tour dates and you can access a pre-sale if you buy the album?

It’s no different to Steps (and 99% of other artists though) that reduce the price of physicals on day 1 ripping off fans that have pre-ordered? At least they are offering an intimate gig as an incentive to buy another copy.

^I'm talking more about putting out new tour dates midweek with a pre-sale that you can only access if you buy the album (again)

I guess the same as Steps announcing HMV signings where you could only get access with ordering a copy of the album rather than taking along one you already had? I bought the bundles from their site but ‘had’ to buy another copy to go to the signing.

Week after week acts pull out all the stops to get #1 - price reductions, new versions, signings, intimate shows, personlised signed copies etc.,

As a side note Steps have just announced 2 download albums to their site with new mixes etc., - Afterparty and Morning After versions, £4.99 each or both for £8.

Ah, makes sense. Both This Is My Truth and Step One were released the same week too and charted at 1 and 2, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if the former obliterated the latter by 100k.

I'd so love for Steps to get it this week, but I'm not so sure there's much juice left in the tank...most huge fans have probably bought three formats at least by now!

From Music Week, sales were 136k to 41k.

Could someone explain to me how this is calculated? According to the charts I have looked at, Stay is no 1 on UK Spotify, Girls Want Girls is no 1 on Apple Music, Cold Heart is no 1 on iTunes, and Bad Habits is no 1 on Youtube. So how does Shivers end up being a considerable amount above all of these overall?

A number of reasons! Bad Habits and STAY are on ACR (see here for more information on that), iTunes doesn't amount to loads when Cold Heart is lagging slightly on streaming (still doing well but not enough for #1!), and when it comes to Girls Want Girls vs Shivers, the latter is performing more consistently across all platforms, and also has physicals available to push it further ahead.

Hope that answers your question!

ACR for several songs like Stay, Bad Habits...

And good physical sales for Shivers (more than 10k signed CD singles sold on his website).

Stay, Bad Habits are on ACR so their streams are halved

Shivers is doing well everywhere + its actually #1 cos of high CD single sales

iTunes sales are very low, same as streams from Youtube

Shivers would still be #1 comfortably with the CD sales deducted. In fact, deduct download sales and he still has a decent lead.

Thanks for the reply. I was just wondering if there was another platform where Shivers is far ahead, making up for lagging behind on all of these!
Looks like at this stage 'Bad Habits' would still be #1 if it wasn't on ACR?

Correct!
