„I‘m tired of the posts criticising him“… goes on to write a paragraph… criticizing him.

What an immature response. Barely responding to anything I actually said and just gaslighting me because of an opinion. It’s fine if you can’t argue the points, but you don’t have to look for small contradictions and change my wording to score some sort of cheap point.

I'm not really sure why Ed needs to take "responsibility" for what other people are streaming? Playlist exposure and promotion helps but at the end of the day, if people don't like the song, nobody's forcing them to stream it.

I'd prefer a quicker turnover at #1, and Bad Habits blocked my song of the year from the top spot for six weeks, which is a shame because STAY has been a gigantic hit regardless and a #1 peak would've been fitting, but I don't begrudge Ed being #1 the whole time.

You’re just ignoring the issue people are having. It’s not about the length of time he’s no.1 but the way he goes about it. It wasn’t enough to have a long stint at no.1, he had to put a remix out yesterday week he went ACR and then a new single out the next time. He is taking advantage of the situation and whilst there isn’t anything inherently wrong with that, it’s not great either. But what makes it even worse is the gaslighting of ‘Ed can’t help it’ when actually the evidence says he probably can.

Of course Ed plays the game, he plays it more than most because he follows the chart and is clearly something of a chart geek, but what bothers me is that it's painted as such a terrible thing on here by many. This still doesn't force people to stream his songs (and it's not gaslighting to suggest that...), though, and he's absolutely not the only artist to try and help his own fortunes in the chart (I mean, Cold Heart will almost definitely only be #1 because of some well-timed physicals that were pushed back a week for the most opportune moment to grab #1).

Well if you admit that he does it, then why is it frowned upon for others to complain about it? People are just being dismissed and generally made fun of and I think it’s a horrible look.

Are we really having a go at him for being smart ? 😂

We would love it if all of our favourite acts and labels were smart like that to increase the longevity of a song and people who say otherwise are talking utter shite.

If it was little mix I’m sure most of your would love and encourage it.

Wonder why Adele and Ed don't have forums?

Adele doesn't release enough music.

Ed should probably have one at this point to be honest.

It's not frowned upon (and nobody's ever said it was - debating or questioning people does not mean something's frowned upon), but the double standards are interesting as I mentioned re. Cold Heart having a well-timed physical that looks like it's actually going to secure it the #1 (a great tactic IMO!). Meanwhile, Ed's been called desperate in this very thread simply for releasing the Alok remix of Shivers, which is going to make a negligible difference chartwise.

If you see anyone being made fun of, please report it to the chart mods and it will be dealt with.

Look I am bored of the constant debates about Ed Sheeran on here too so am quite eager to move on from this but with all due respect, that is not at all what the debate is currently about. The issue people are having right now is him allegedly being cringeworthy for saying that he wants 'Cold Heart' to be #1 and acknowledging that he could drop more CDs to stop it but is not going to. If you're one of the people who doesn't like his tactics to remain at #1 - I disagree but I understand why people would think that - then surely the fact that he is explicitly not pulling any of that this week should be something you'd be happy about and give him a bit of credit for, even if it's just 'I still think he's a dick but I'm glad he is supporting Elton'. Instead people are just pivoting to attacking him for other reasons.

I guess people might just think it's cringeworthy when Ed Sheeran engages with the workings of the chart in any way even when he is supporting someone other than himself but if that's the case... fair enough but seems like a weird angle to take on a UK chart discussion forum?

Healthy sales for Sam, he added 6.9K with Amazon Physical and some streaming still missing. His first album debuted with 41K
whats cringe is the way he brags about letting Elton get the #1 so condescending and patronising

if he was so humble like the label wants to depict him, he'd shut up about it and not tell anyone

Condescending and patronising would be if he said something like "only 5-year-olds would listen to [insert artist]" (just for example)

Just a timely reminder btw that debates on BuzzJack about Ed Sheeran are really not that deep (at least on my end!) and I don't think less of anyone for having a different opinion to me. I'm sorry if it ever comes across that way. I am conscious of that and that's why I try to step back occasionally to keep things lighthearted and take the piss out of myself as well (calling myself #edsheerandefenceforce and whatnot). xx

Ed is cringe, but he plays the game well. I wish my fav played it that well when she was in her prime success-wise years ago.

Anyway, time to stream "Cold Heart" on spotify/youtube/amazon and buy it. *_*

I'm just wondering, in regard to youtube views, is there a cap of views from one person/IP like there is for spotify etc (10 streams per song per day). And can I do 10 streams per day on Spotify and Amazon and they both count?

Been a while since we've had a good chart battle and would love Elton to get another #1!

Wait, so I'm not meant to be banning people who disagree with me? :lulu2:

I'm sorry but I don't get the logic at all. Ed is claiming to support Elton by not releasing more CD singles and we should give him credit for it and be happy about it? I have to laugh. He is flexing his chart power and being arrogant in that video and if anything is discrediting Cold Heart success this week.

The logic:

> You want Cold Heart to be #1

> Ed also wants Cold Heart to be #1

Why would you not be happy about that?

It's very this meme

as Kath said he didn’t have to imply that its only going to number one because of his ‘charitable act’ of not releasing signed CDs that he has all ready to be shipped out. just makes it sound like a humble brag which is not a good look for someone so ridiculously successful.

I agree with this. Ed didn't have to say any of that. He could have just mentioned how he liked the song and was glad for them that it had picked up and overtaken him. But he very much makes it out that he's giving them the #1 and that he could take it back if he wanted, but he's so amazingly generous and not big headed that he won't.
