May 14, 20223 yr If Sam can place Top 10 it will do great for Eurovision in the UK. Maneskin broke through last year which helps people view the contest differently. A strong UK placement this year comes at the right time.
May 14, 20223 yr I can see Sam going top 5/10 in the UK next week if we manage to finish top 10 in Eurovision, it's being supported on streaming too which is huge *.* Would be #22 on Apple Music once Kendrick 3 rule tracks apply
May 15, 20223 yr 2nd for us which also becomes our best performing UK entry in the 21st Century bypassing Jessica Garlick's 'Come Back' which came 3rd in 2002. First top 2 in 24 years as well. So pleased for us. Edited May 15, 20223 yr by Roba.
May 15, 20223 yr I'm so proud of him!!! Even top 10 would have been insane, 2nd is out of this world.
May 15, 20223 yr He was the perfect ambassador for the U.K. in Eurovision this year - what a star and lovely, uplifting presence on screen
May 15, 20223 yr Still processing this actually happening but what a king, could not be happier with this result <3 I truly felt upon hearing the song that it surely had to be a hit, thrilled that gut feeling turned out to be right.
May 15, 20223 yr Great song. Great performance. Great result He interviewed well in the green room as well :)
May 15, 20223 yr While I don't like the song, I am glad it did so well. It might shut all the naysayers up that like to think everyone in Europe hates the UK in Eurovision.
May 15, 20223 yr The “everyone hates us anyway” line is just an excuse to be lazy and send rubbish to the competition. Glad we don’t buy it on here. Well done Sam; so thoroughly deserved! :cheer:
May 15, 20223 yr Top 10 on Apple Music *.* iTunes: #1 United Kingdom #2 Greece #3 Ireland #4 Norway #4 Sweden #5 Austria #6 Switzerland #7 Spain #8 Germany #9 Romania #17 Finland #17 New Zealand #20 Netherlands #20 Singapore #23 Italy #27 Australia #27 Poland #30 Belgium #31 Greece #50 France #56 United Kingdom #70 Russia #84 Denmark #92 United Kingdom #95 Mexico
May 15, 20223 yr It’s so nice to not look back on this thread with regret for a change! <3 I think we really played a blinder getting an actual popular artist (on Tik Tok at least!), a standout song and promotion throughout Europe. I really hope this can change the way we think about our entries going forward and dispels the ‘poisoned chalice’ impression it’s had recently.
May 15, 20223 yr promotion throughout Europe This is what's lacking in the past entries imo, not that we don't have songs that are better than Space Man which didn't finish high.
May 15, 20223 yr As much as I wasn’t keen on the song, he did a fantastic job last night and should be proud. His voice is insane! Now the challenge is, how do we capitalise on this success for next year? Hopefully we don’t take a step backwards. Edited May 15, 20223 yr by LMFan
May 15, 20223 yr I really hope this becomes a decent sized hit, that’s how songwriters, artists and labels become attracted to the show. For years all you have been guaranteed is losing your record deal and a Top 150 hit if you’re lucky, if participants start getting a hit out of the entering we will see much better interest. The team behind Sam have done wonders this year - promo, staging etc., were spot on.
May 15, 20223 yr So it turns out that the 6 irregular juries all gave 0 points to Ireland, ranking it dead last, basically forcing it out of the competition! This had a MASSIVE knock-on effect, as it allowed Spain, with a mediocre song, to almost win, due to having no up-beat competition. Meanwhile, the UK was placed next to the singer who had an even better voice than Sam's, and had competition from a bunch of ballads. This happened to us recently in BJSC. One nation sent BY FAR the best song in the competition, hands down. Due to being in a small contest, when all pop songs but one went out, the saturated pop nations voted for the eh, it's ok pop song and it won via the backdoor because it hsd no competition in its bloc. These things happen!! The juries almost ended up throwing the ENTIRE COMPETITION by forcing Ireland and Lithuania out!
May 15, 20223 yr I wonder why though, was it that they simply didnt like the Irish song or was their tactics behind it, id love in a way if it was tactically as i really thought Brooke deserved to through and was shocked by he rresult, i know its a case of clutching straws and it will make no difference at all.

The team behind Sam have done wonders this year - promo, staging etc., were spot on. There's a few articles going around about how they got to this situation. I totally subscribed to the theory we would never win, but I also subscribe to the theory Eurovision just didn't become cool in the United Kingdom. The last few years have changed that - will be interesting to see if the BBC producers go down the same route again. I can imagine the Management company will charge way more this time around, but they also might have more singers/artists willing to put themselves forward.
