The thing is you cannot compare sales from 2013 vs 2021, the market has changed dramatically

real sales only happen in week 1 and after that it's just streaming points from playlists if you're lucky

so people like Lana still do well in week 1 but overall sales are much lower than in the early 10s

. Definitely looks like Elton has the #1 now, fair play, I didn't think he'd do this well but I guess it makes sense! (I have heard his album being randomly plugged on Heart a few times alongside the upcoming Ed and Adele albums actually)

I think since the film Rocketman has introduced him to a whole new generation of younger fans and has been proven by the continual chart success of hits compilation Dismonds, I'm not surprised at the success of EJ's new album. Prior to the film, he would've been considered a legacy act like Tom Jones. I think his newfound fan base the various collaborators on the album and the huge hit with Dua are helping the sales also.

the continuous chart success of Diamonds is fake though, no one is streaming that album, it just receives all the streams from any EJ track on Spotify that you stream
It does prove that there is a big streaming audience for Elton's classics though. Whether they are directly streaming Diamonds or not is irrelevant, it's still proof of his popularity among what is bound to be a generally younger audience!

Agree it proves his songs are very much in demand, totally agree on that

Just pointing out that it shouldn't be reflected on Diamonds being top 20 for eternity

Lana's label totally screwed the physicals on Blue Bannisters. Only the black vinyl seems to be available, the yellow one seems to be very limited in immediate availability. No one’s seen the white or red vinyl yet, and I guess pre-orders for people that ordered all variants together won't be shipped this week.

I ordered the white and yellow variant as a bundle and they sent the yellow one separately yesterday even though I got an email last week saying they were both going to be delayed.

I don't know what it's like in the UK, but in Australia it's actually one of the better selling albums each week, so it might do alright in the UK too?

Well it was #69 in the albums sales chart last week so that would suggest it's not selling particularly well compared to its official chart position.

firstly nice, but honestly that doesn't seem all that bad. Like if it's actually the best selling Elton John album by default anyway, it's hardly egregious that it gets the streams.

Diamonds is not even in the Apple top 1500 album streams...
That says more about the Apple chart & their search algorithms than it does the OCC's.
Is Adele's week 2 figures on track with most week 2 drop offs or more?
Is Adele's week 2 figures on track with most week 2 drop offs or more?

Most songs don't peak in week 1 so it's difficult to answer this, but Hello fell by 46% in week 2. Easy On Me is down 63% based on Monday figures.

A Number 1 single and album for Elton John I would welcome, it feels fitting and gives hope to others artists that it's still possible to have a hit single.
Adele’s drop-off is pretty savage for sure; I don’t think anyone would have expected Easy On Me’s streams to be dropping off faster than Hello’s downloads. It suggests the song isn’t fully clicking at the moment, but that might change and she’ll have others of course.
Hopefully it'll remain rather stable after the second week drop off. It has a number of boosts in the coming weeks which should help (Casettes being shipped/album release/TV performances). I think the second single could potentially be the bigger hit (if the second single is Max Martin song).

Don't think it means it's not clicking, just means there were a lot of curiosity streams on the first days, which is totally normal

she's still doing 800K on Spotify daily so it's not like no one cares

I'm sorry, but that is ridiculous. A song still set to surpass 100k in its second week is hardly "not clicking".
