October 27, 20214 yr Although does anyone know if So Long was released in the UK as the follow up to Waterloo? If so it didn’t chart at all, so Just A Notion will do better than that. :)
October 28, 20214 yr Disappointed Abba wont hold top 40 now and it will break their consecutive run of top 40 hits but in another way i never expected Abba to add 3 new top 75 hits to their discography either, the album will make up for the disappointment of this single not doing well though.
October 28, 20214 yr Ed’s new single Overpass Graffiti could knock Adele off next week I think it's more likely that Shivers will return to #1 tbh, or maybe even Bad Habits. Overpass Graffiti is certainly in the running, but it may take a few weeks to warm up.
October 28, 20214 yr Shame ABBA is so far down already as it would've been nice to see them get 3 top 40 hits from one album. Well there were articles saying there would be a single release for Christmas so there is still hope for that. Considering Just A Notion was already well known in its demo form, it’s not as exciting as the completely new songs that were initially released. Plus £4 for a cd single when the album is only a few weeks away isn’t going to interest casual audiences. Really pleased for Elton. Cold Heart has done him the world of good. Gives me hope more legacy acts can still have some chart success if they play their cards right.
October 28, 20214 yr Clean Bandit had lasted long enough Sorry I meant that Drive had lasted long enough, must be the lack of competition that caused it to peak so late
October 28, 20214 yr You're right about that, their previous lowest was #38 for I Do x5 (think the flop jokes are wearing a bit thin at this point...) To be fair though, and I can't see the article as behind a paywall and I hate the paper anyway, the Telegraph has posted article saying that ABBA's comeback is a bit of a flop. So reasonable discussion point in this case... https://www.telegraph.co.uk/music/artists/r...-music-flopped/
October 28, 20214 yr What a horribly negative and unfair article! The sheer flop of an album amassing record pre-orders for its label. A top ten single with brand new material in the streaming era with no help from a featured artist, being ‘below established hits by Lil Nas X and Ed Sheeran’ is somehow an underperformance for a band in their 70s who haven’t had a top ten hit in 40 years? Seemed quite mind-blowing and without precedent to me. And as for his assertion that ‘Just A Notion’ hasn’t even charted - the tracking week isn’t even finished yet, give them a chance. It’s not going top 40 but since when was three top 75 singles for a now Radio 2 albums-based act bad going in this day and age?
October 28, 20214 yr I find it a pretty dreadful, ageist and sneery article. You aren’t missing much.
October 28, 20214 yr People who are expecting nuanced, factual, fair articles from the Telegraph…clearly have never read the Telegraph. Edited October 28, 20214 yr by iain

October 28, 20214 yr Although does anyone know if So Long was released in the UK as the follow up to Waterloo? If so it didn’t chart at all, so Just A Notion will do better than that. :) According to this article it did. https://abbasite.com/articles/abba-in-great-britain/ And its listed as a 7" UK one here https://www.discogs.com/master/4583-ABBA-So-Long
October 29, 20214 yr Also the article makes out that the fact they aren’t performing live proves that their comeback is half hearted, so the author clearly is clueless about the back story including Agnetha’s long standing fear of crowds etc. I’m sure not having to perform live would have been a condition of agreeing to come back for her at least. Plus they’ve probably decided all in all that the fans would rather think of them as they were back then, hence the avatar solution.
