I'm surprised at Ed's numbers, especially considering how massive Bad Habits was and Shiver too. It seemed to be pointing at that that we were going to have major dominance once again.

I mean its still big sales considering album sales are so sh!te these days, however i am shocked at how poor (for Ed) the album is doing. Saying that though any other artist could only dream of having such numbers after a few days

That's a bit more than I thought for Ed (120k for the whole week). I guess Olivia will be a competition on the YE chart for him (Adele and Abba will defeat both I think).
"Appalling" is a gigantic overreaction, they're great numbers, but obviously far lower than expected for someone like Ed. They can be both good figures and an underperformance at the same time!

Respectfully, that’s why I said appalling numbers FOR Ed. For almost anyone else, they’d be great.

But considering it is Ed and there is no escaping that, these numbers are appalling as far as I’m concerned.

Huh I have no idea why they show up as combined for me then. This is what the current Top 20 looks like for me at least.

Well, I never expected to see my Buzzjackfestivalen entry from this year, I Want Candy by Bow Wow Wow, in the Amazon top 20. :o

Rolloland impact!

How long did Bad Habits stay at #1 for? And then he followed that up with another big hit in Shivers. With a run like that, you’d have expected humongous sales. So what’s going on?

Is it Ed or is the era of the physical CD approaching obsolescence before our very eyes?

With ABBA reportedly having 110k pre-orders, it's now a possibility they could pull a higher first week sale than Ed!

Its a huge decline but Ed will pull some tricks out the bag to end the week on a decent total and outsell previous "buzz album"

I think I went too high for his first week sales, I thought his physicals would be massive. Should still pull 150-200k I’d imagine though which is impressive for the current climate but even I’m surprised at how low that is. I think I was right on the other thread that the collaboration project has weakened his return as someone else has said, it’s not like he’s been away.

Hoping Adele can somehow clinch back the no1 single this week, although she may well return there next week anyway depending on what else comes out.

Also amazing to see Spice top 3 after 25 years! Fantastic pop album, hope it holds that by the end of the week but it’ll likely drop. Shame they didn’t release it a few weeks back, although I know it’s for the anniversary.

Not just the physical CD but download sales of albums are practically negligible these days and the way streaming "sales" for albums are calculated is convoluted. All that combines to make a massively deflated album market.

Did Ed and his fans not say his album was pre ordered 400,000 times?

Didn't Ed himself say it had something like 300,000 pre-orders? Or am I imagining that?

He said he had 600,000 preorders (I’m assuming he meant WW). But that still can’t have been accurate info he’d received because you’d expect a disproportionate number of those preorders to be UK sales, but clearly they are not showing through in the numbers we have so far.

He might have meant pre-adds (i.e. those who pre-added the album on streaming services). Mind you, for context Adele has already racked up over a million pre-adds on Apple Music alone and consequently broke the record for the most pre-adds ever).

Yeah that's a good shout, streaming pre-adds definitely seems more likely for that figure given what we've seen so far than pre-orders.

Not sure how accurate the ABBA figure is but time will tell.

I’m not that surprised by those numbers for Ed. I think he got very lucky with Divide in that the buzz around the album was massive and you couldn’t escape people talking about it and hearing the songs. Whereas I’ve hardly noticed any hype for this new album.

I think Adele returning couldn’t have helped either. Her releasing new music drew all the hype to her and away from Ed.

He’ll still do amazing numbers by the end of the week especially for this day and age so it’s nowhere near a flop imo.

he said 600,000 which was more than divide

Im so disappointed with Eds numbers, i was fully expecting at least 100k in todays mids, hopefully some shipments have still to be counted in, im hoping his sales stay steady through the week and can at least get him to 200k.

Absolutely not a flop by any standards. But yes, disappointing.

I’m wondering if Adele should be concerned at this point, but I suppose we’ll have to wait and see.

Definitely disappointed with those figures, But I think in this climate it’s a pretty respectable number, Peoples habits have changed since his last album and that proves that.
Adele will blow those sales out of the water! She was always a stronger album seller, and so far easy on me has broke streaming records, sold over 200k which hasn’t been seen in nearly 5 years! And still pulling bigger streams than ed despite releasing his new album!
