Also true of the CD era where rock especially had a tendency towards bloat because 'more is better' (and who knows, maybe the RIAA's certification rules doubling for double albums was encouraging too), thus so many blockbuster albums are way too long for their own good. I've still never listened to Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness because even though at least 4 of its singles are stone cold classics, the whole thing is 2 hours long and nobody's got time for that.

Side note: "All Too Well (10 Minute Version)" doesn't remotely feel like a slog at all. For some reason I was expecting a 5 minute guitar solo

Get used to it, because that’s seemingly going to be the future of all music.

Silk Sonic:

7. "Smokin' Out The Window"

41. "Leave The Door Open"

49. "Fly As Me"

55. "After Last Night (with Thundercat & Bootsy Collins)"

60. "Blast Off"

68. "Skate"

71. "Put On A Smile"

78. "777"

79. "Silk Sonic Intro"

Really good debut for the Silk Sonic allbum, all tracks top 100! Especially considering the current influx of Taylor tracks too. Hopefully Taylor's tracks will collapse quite quickly. I hope "Smokin' Out the Window" has a chance to go top 10 this week!

Because the 2 biggest opening weeks from the past 4 years have been from albums that have had - 14 tracks and 10 tracks. And an album surpassing all of those next week will be…12 tracks. I honestly think you’re getting worked up for no reason.

You think so? In an era where more and more hit songs are running short of 3 or even 2 minutes? I think if anything the enduring popularity of "SOUR" as an 'every single track is a hit' success shows that a concise product is what a lot of people are after. I wouldn't remotely use "Red (Taylor's Version)" as an example of anything. Re-release/anniversary/what have you albums are frequently excessively long. The point of my post was to note that excess far pre-dates the algorithmic streaming age because it's not the only reason artists have done it.

#105. Avril Lavigne - Bite Me

Very impressive it's held on so well considering the mass of debuts ahead of it! It even increased in streams. Dare I say this may actually become a hit? It should rise some tomorrow as I expect a lot of today's debuts to fall quite a bit.

Exactly, this is no different to any of the XXth anniversary deluxe album re-releases we are seeing regularly. It is by no means the normal track listing. It is mainly the US billboard charts where the impact is felt most, but like any of the charts globally, there is nothing stopping them tweaking the rules if it becomes problematic.

Agree with those saying the 10 minute version of all too well doesn’t feel like the length of time it covers, really well done track. Would love to hear it on radio but can’t imagine radio 1 devoting 10 mins of the chart show to one track

Only time will tell, of course. But I think we are starting to see a trend of popular artists putting as many songs on an album as feasible to increase streaming numbers. I think I’m more disappointed in Taylor than anything. She’s so above doing something like that, but she clearly feels the pressure to maintain this aura of supremacy whenever she releases music. How many songs do you think her next TV will have? I’m betting more than 30, so she can beat this record. Because unless Adele releases an album with 20+ songs, I can’t see any other female breaking this one day female record in the near future. Maybe Olivia Rodrigo (doesn’t she have the one week record with just 11 songs?), but I’d hope she’s above putting so many songs on an album in order to do it because it’s really not that serious.

I need these artists to realise that longevity and having a solid piece of cohesive work is more important than short-term streaming records. I blame their record labels for being so damn greedy.

I really don't see why you're disappointed?!?! She's re-recording the albums AND adding so much extra material that didn't make the initial album. I would KILL for my favourite artists to do that. She's doing it to take back control of her discography, whilst also treating her fans a plenty with so much new/extra material.

It's not like these albums are going to be dominating for weeks on end. They have big debut weeks then drop away fairly quickly.

I really think you're from another planet

Disappointed in Taylor cos the album has 30 tracks, as a fan I couldn't be happier, she does it for the fans to enjoy more songs, it's the norm in re-released album to incentivate buying again lol

You seem to be predisposed to be disappointed in Taylor. You were already trolling about being disappointed about the performance of the songs on Apple, even if it was doing 43586 times better than the last one Fearless, then she does 3267832678 times better in Spotify and still not satisfied

then of course you have to change gears cos you didn't have more arguments and started with the long album bullshit

and in the end when you don't have more arguments you end up with being disappointed in Taylor as a person, lol, I really you're the biggest troll :D

This! She’s created value for fans by raiding the vaults and giving people unreleased content.

Again, grow up and stop with the name calling.

You were being purposely dense with your posts though. I didn’t call you a dense person, just your arguments.

Since when? It sounds like you're bitter and losing the plot over nothing. Give it a rest.

Bitter and losing the plot for pointing out a fact that no one else dares to in case they’re bombarded by Taylor fans? :cardi:

I can take the blows, it’s fine. Keep them coming, Taylor fans.

I’m so surprised by how well ‘Red’ streamed on day 1!

I wonder how much of a drop in sales there will be for Abba.. potential for Taylor to be #1?

I’m even more surprised I was able to actually find the streaming numbers from yesterday in this messy ridiculous post/thread.

(Yep, that’s me throwing shade at a lot of you above ^ .. give it all a rest now.

I'm not even a Taylor fan but this argument of yours is serving Adelita level of absurd. I think you're the only one this mad about her releasing an album with 30 songs on it.

I'm sure it's already mentioned but Already Dead at #14 is a good showing.

Actually quite a good song too. Am I right in thinking he fully wrote and recorded this before he died unlike some of the other stitched together crap?

I’m not mad, promise. Just pointing out something no one else has.
