Ah, I like WTGGT and First Time was very close to my points, Ferry Cross The Mersey was #1 when I was born so I am slightly fond of it for those reasons.

Released at the height of his fame here it went straight in at No 1

Swing The Mood Jive Bunny & The Mastermixers (Voter: Riser)- No 1 for 5 weeks in August/September 1989

RP4tM1u.jpg

The song that started 6 months of chart domination and the only one of their three chart toppers to pick up any points.

Jive Bunny is one of the worst things ever in the UK chart

Jason's cover of Sealed With A Kiss is actually surprisingly good and Feels Like I'm In Love is alright.

I have nothing positive to say about the other two.

'Feels Like I'm In Love' is my new favourite to appear so far, lovely disco song! The standard was just too high elsewhere to be able to squeeze it in.

Oh My God... How did I miss this. This is like, the vote I would have loved doing the most.

Looking forward to seeing the results unfold.

Guiltily excited that all three Bucks Fizz number 1's scored some points!!

I would imagine they will appear in the order of My Camera Never Lies out first (even thought it's their best), then Mind Up... with Make Believe coming out the highest for them.

I forgot to vote in this but I am sure I would have given points to the Kelly Marie song, its great fun.

The Goombay Dance Band song isnt very dancey at all even by 1982 standards despite the name of the band! I consider it a ballad really. Its OK but a bit MOR for my tastes.

Always wondered how on Earth the Goombay Dance Band got a foothold in the UK chart, it’s not something you would normally get in the charts but I did like it on the old TOTP episodes! Also like ‘Feels Like I’m In Love’ it sounded very 70s but just too much else to get my vote!

I guess they were following the trend of Boney M (and their song Rivers of Babylon stylistically) as this review suggests:

I kind of agree though with what he says here:

'Goombay' is a variation of drum based music from the Bahamas that is played in a celebratory style, but while there was always a wondrous sense of humour and unpredictability about everything Boney M did, there is precious little celebratory or varied about 'Seven Tears'.

For the whole duration of the track, the rhythm and beat does not change one iota and it plods it's way dirge-like from start to finish in the manner of a hymn sung at a school assembly that has been rearranged by the trendy music teacher to try and make it more relevant to 'ver kids'. Any goodwill you may have felt toward it is ground down by the sheer monotony.

Seven Tears sounds like it could have been a Eurovision winner from five years earlier. Sounds dated by 1982 standards but must have been popular. I knew it would do badly so decided to throw it my 1 point but there were about 10 other songs still to come also in contention for that.

Excuse me what is this disrespect towards Jive Bunny!!

(I'm whatever on the other 2 #1s but 'Swing The Mood' is legitimately and unironically a bop x)

My votes would have been:

+30- Eye Of The Tiger Survivor

+29- Don't Stand So Close To Me The Police

+28- Careless Whisper George Michael

+27- Down Under Men At Work

+26- Every Breath You Take The Police

+24- Red Red Wine UB40

+23- Brass In Pocket The Pretenders

+22- Ghost Town The Specials

+19- When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Gets Going Billy Ocean

+18- Wake Me Up Before You Go Go Wham!

+17- Relax Frankie Goes To Hollywood

+16- Rock Me Amedeus Falco

+15- A Town Called Malice The Jam

+14- You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) Dead Or Alive

+13- A Groovy Kind Of Love Phil Collins

+12- Tainted Love Soft Cell

+11- The Final Countdown Europe

+10- Karma Chameleon Culture Club

+9- Merry Christmas Everyone Shakin Stevens

+4- I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me) George Michael & Aretha Franklin

You would have jumped Billy ocean up a lot with them votes Mack!
I think I can say without giving too much away that my 30 pointer is somewhere within that list... but where I will leave to be revealed! :kink:

I'm a bit late but the zero points Spirit In The Sky and Let's Party were in my top 35 list! :( Yes at Doctorin' the Tardis getting points from someone else. :D

Also like Sealed With a Kiss and Swing The Mood. Surprised they got only 1 point each one.

lol at some people saying Jive Bunny were one of the worst things in the UK charts when Cliff Richard exists.

Seeing Mack's top 30 list I think I voted for only 5 of them. :teresa:

back in the day Jive Bunny was seen as a sorta Ladbaby/Robson & Jerome

that a silly mashup could take the record for artist with 3 #1s out of their first 3 singles like FGTH

XecJtfP.jpg

The final No 1 of the decade and another S/A/W charity single.
