February 2, 20223 yr West End Girls is very good, my introduction to the Pet Shop Boys as it was still on music channels quite a bit when I was younger and I liked the song. The female backing vocal in it makes it sound a bit 90s ahead of time too.
February 2, 20223 yr Ooft, West End Girls should've been the highest from them, such an epically building song with brilliant contrast between verses, bridge and chorus.
February 2, 20223 yr West End Girls is sonically and lyrically brave but unashamedly pop. It was that last song I cut alongside House Of Fun, while I inadvertently left Don't Leave Me This way on 6 points, so I'll be very disappointed if a certain other song is within that range.
February 2, 20223 yr Thrilled to see 3 Pet Shop Boys songs in the top 10! I took an interest in them after seeing them live at Wembley, as Take That's support act on that mammoth 'Progress' tour in 2011, then my interest only increased over the years as my taste was really shaping into what it is now. Surprised I 'only' gave 'West End Girls' 4 points actually, great song, the atmosphere really draws me in. Going to guess that 'It's A Sin' will be their highest placing #1? A classic anyway but I'm sure the TV show of the same name plus Years & Years/Elton putting it back in public consciousness won't hurt :P
February 2, 20223 yr It's a Sin is my least favourite of the 3 big PSB singles, so sure that's gonna be the highest :D their reinterpretation of Always on My Mind is the best thing they've ever done imho

February 2, 20223 yr Although thanks to it being the soundtrack to the Haven Holidays advert for so many years it makes me dream of frolicking on the beach when I hear it. And then the song for that advert was changed to the excellent Echo Beach by Martha and The Muffins!
February 2, 20223 yr I simply love all three PSBs songs in the top 10 and can’t choose between them. ‘It’s a Sin’ would be my top one due to the content of the song!

February 2, 20223 yr Pet Shop Boys were ‘supporting’ Take That :o :o :) Indeed!! At the time, as a 13-year-old, I wasn't massively aware of the Pet Shop Boys' legacy but as time has gone on, it feels weird to type that. 'Progress' Wembley tickets being an absolute nightmare to get hold of is a reflection of how big that Take That era was at the time, with Robbie rejoining :drama:
February 2, 20223 yr Pet Shop Boys were ‘supporting’ Take That :o :o :) Yep, that’s when I saw them live as well!
February 3, 20223 yr from Lake Geneva to the Finland Station :D Love “West End Girls”, and of course all of their number ones from the 1980s. I expect “It's A Sin” will be the highest placed?
February 3, 20223 yr Pet Shop Boys were ‘supporting’ Take That :o :o :) Seems bizarre thinking about it, supporting an act that weren't even established until long after you were famous and successful but I suppose in the context of the time and the huge cross-generational appeal that Take That had, it might have made sense as an opportunity for them to introduce themselves to a new era of fans and expand their fanbase.
February 3, 20223 yr Lost a good few of my highest pointers in the Top 20 which is a shame but i'm glad my three highest ranked songs made it that far at least. Another two from my list just dropping out now and both are excellent tracks. I'm kinda hoping Always On My Mind and A-ha drop out next, I don't dislike the songs but i'm not as big on them as everything else that remains. I also have a feeling Madonna will win it but would like to see a surprise result.
February 3, 20223 yr Well, I know which of the 2 remaining PSB songs I want to be higher :P West End Girls is brilliant, but just missed out on my votes. Well deserved top 10 placing though.
February 3, 20223 yr West End Girls is my fave of the 3, but in concert the showstopper tends to be Always On My Mind, so wouldnt be surprised if that was the highest, though it's not even in my top 20 PSB faves generally. PSB's have always worked with other pop stars (still do, Years n Years frinstance), and they've written, produced and sung with Robbie Williams so it's not at all surprising they would support Take That with Robbie in the line-up, though it might seem an odd choice on the face of it. The great thing about the lads live is they are willing to try anything new and interesting, festivals, mega-venues, small venues, prestige venues, historical venues, charity events. I've seen them at Wembley Arena on their first tour, a costume-changing & set extravaganza that was a bit fragmented, through to the more streamlined themed tours of recent years. They've gotten even better as they've gone on, and some of the places I've seen them: Tower Of London, Royal Albert Hall, Hammersmith, Royal Opera House, Bournemouth International Centre, and Barcelona's Poble Espanyol outdoor courtyard, still my fave. I've also got Neil's autograph (a mate got it for me while he was having a meal near the opening of the Ballet they did), and he has walked right past me in a packed Ku Bar in London on his way downstairs to the club. I was too embarrassed to go and try gushing about how much of a fan I was, as I invariably come over as some sort of tongue-tied, rambling nervous stalker when faced with talking to celebrities I admire....so, you're welcome Neil! Phew!
February 3, 20223 yr ^surprised you have Always on my mind in such low esteem, for me t's easier the best thing PSB have ever done and one if not the best ever ever :)
