Poor Ed didn’t win one single award. Maybe if they never combined the male and female categories together, he might have won
Umm you’re wrong. He won.

He must’ve won towards the end then as I turned off after Sam Fender

Think this was one of the more enjoyable BRITs ceremonies of late (I didn't watch last year's for some reason though oops) - Bring Me The Horizon were certainly an unpredictable choice of special guest for Ed Sheeran and that was a great opening performance, the new arrangement successfully breathing some life into a song that's got more than a little bit played out (release a studio version Ed you know you want to). Who'd have thought Ed Sheeran of all people would be serving the closest thing we've had to another The KLF/Extreme Noise Terror moment  Aside from that Little Simz and Dave were the standout performances as I expected, was great to hear 'Introvert' actually being performed (albeit only part of it before transitioning to the more safe choice of 'Woman') as that is definitely my favourite song from the Simz album  and Dave delivering another excellent performance, was great to see all of the features being there and wow at that guitar solo outro *.* Glad that Dave has showcased more meaningful songs at the BRITs with both of his performances rather than just picking the obvious 'Location' / 'Clash' (much as I do like both of those songs). Was my first time hearing the Liam Gallagher song and it sounded like one of his better solo songs so looking forward to hearing the studio version ~

Thrilled to see Wolf Alice winning group of the year  and Little Simz winning new artist of the year, even if it is more than a little questionable to categorise her as a 'new artist', was also great to see especially as it led to that adorable acceptance speech. Dave and Billie Eilish winning their respective awards were the ones I was rooting for too, both fairly predictable of course but still happy to see it! A bit of a shame that Måneskin didn't win the international group award but Silk Sonic were my second fave so still happy with them as winners too (and it was cool to see Måneskin getting to present an award, though I cannot stop imagining the alternate universe in which they were handing a trophy over to Young Adz ). Also enjoyed the chaotic energy of Mo Gilligan as a host x

It may just be because I'm not super keen on the song but Adele's performance really felt like a bit of a non-event unfortunately?

Honestly I found the whole ceremony just dull. It feels like such a clinical industry hype-driven thing now without any of the fun or frivolousness you used to expect.

Anne-Marie almost stacking it during her performance was hilarious though.

Well that was a pretty decent Brits. I felt like there were more actual deserved winners this year, in particular Becky Hill, Sam Fender, Dua Lipa. Silk Sonic winning their award was just bizarre though. Great performances too, Ed/BMTH was inspired and both 'Joker' and 'I Drink Wine' sounded better than when I've heard them as part of their respective albums. I don't blame them for making up an award for Ed, they couldn't get him to perform twice and then send him home empty-handed

I enjoyed Holly Humberstone's performance more than I thought I would, will have to check out some more of her stuff.

Wasn't sure what I made of Mo as host, he had some funny moments and he was less cringey than Jack Whitehall, but I wasn't 100% convinced either.

They should continue with the award as it's an important one to recognise as without song writers there is no music industry.

On awards results (as if you'd get me watching an awards show lol): I broadly agree with Bré.

f**king Adele, I WILL keep on avoiding her and you WILL not get me to listen to any of that thing. ballads over bangers what a crime

Excellent choice for British Group of course, love Wolf Alice, and very pleased to see Little Simz get some recognition, her album last year was a banger, particularly 'Introvert'. On International Artist and Groups I do think they picked the weakest of the 5 there in both cases given their material over the last year, but they made the right choice for International Song. Mixed bag, really.

Definitely keep the songwriter award and indeed expand it with full on nominations, same for producer, they should recognise every part of talent that goes into making music.

The Songwriter Award isn't as blatantly chosen to avoid an act not winning anything than the one they made up for One Direction. It makes a lot of sense to keep it. Adding nominations should increase the chances of getting recognition for writers who are not also performers.
I was actually happy with all the winners yesterday, especially Adele, Little Simz and Wolf Alice (who I didn't expect to win).
Overnight viewing figures were only 2.7m for the programme which is possibly the lowest ever.
Happy for the Adele, Dua Lipa and Wolf Alice wins. Two Ed Sheeran performances in one night is when I had to turn off.

Dave is everything. I love how he used his slot to showcase other British black talent (and a choir) for the first five minutes, played live instruments and seemed so humble and gracious for his award and opportunity.

I'm a bit over Adele's 'Oh ma gawd I'm so humble innit' persona. Just doesn't wash with me any more after her Hollywood specials, her Vegas stunt and her 'real music' comments a while ago. Plus the sheer stupidity to claim not many people make personal albums anymore when Dave and Little Simz had WAY more personal albums than hers. Read the f***ing room.

Ed Sheeran having two performance slots and a made up award is the usual industry bollocks.

We really need an all singing, all dancing pop group again to liven things up and inject some fun and life into these award shows. Where the f*** are all the pop groups?

I do understand the point people are making but it's mildly amusing to keep seeing people complain about Ed winning a 'made up' award as if all of the awards aren't made up :kink:

I think it would be cool if songwriter of the year becomes an actual proper category in the future.

the reason for the low viewings is there wasn't anyone exciting to bring in a spectacle... these awards show thrive of big performances and people won't tune in to watch Adele or Ed Sheeran as they'd happily watch them in a iamspamspamami The rest of the line-up is aimed at TikTok generation and they don't watch TV... watch the views on YouTube for the performances be high.

What they need to do next year is have the Kylie's / Madonnas / Gwen Stefani - these are the acts that bring in viewers...

^ Ha, Gwen Stefani is a bit of a random inclusion there. I'd love her to bring in the viewers but I doubt she would. Adele's a much bigger name for that... although I'm sure it would've made more of a difference if it was the start of a new era for her or if it had been her first live performance in a while.

"Made up" as in sense that there was only one nominee (who would automatically win)

Now, if the category was announced along with others and had four other nominees I wouldn't complain that much

guess Adele didn't like it very much either... in the best artist speech she mentioned all the other great nominees, Little Simz, Dave, Sam, but omitted... then in her last speech she mentioned nobody releases personal albums, which seemed to me like another go at Ed
