Theoretically with New Years Eve and Day falling in the same chart week this year and competition being limited. Could Mr. Brightside go top 40 next week?

The OCC will probably grant resets to as many newer songs as necessary to ensure that doesn't happen.

The OCC haven’t got a vendetta against Mr Brightside to justify such action. If they did, they would have brought in a rule ages ago to stop it clogging up the top 75-100. Besides, they can only grant what labels request so there is a limit to how many they can reset anyway (and must have a solid case to do so).

I was sort of joking, they won't do it for that reason. Although the arbitrary nature of the resets system does mean that there are maybe around 12 different songs which may or may not be in the Top 10 next week, depending on what gets reset and what doesn't.

Nothing like a new Disney soundtrack taking over the charts to remind me of how hopelessly out of touch I am with movies :kink: (I had never heard a peep about this Encanto thing until seeing these songs popping up on iTunes and now coming through on streaming as the Xmas songs exit). Looks to have a lot of momentum behind it so far although remains to be seen if it becomes as big a phenomenon as 'Frozen' or 'The Greatest Showman'. (yes I know the latter isn't Disney x)

I was wondering if Kodak Black's 'Super Gremlin' might become a hit in the UK as it's been a pretty huge comeback hit for him in the US after a few years of his singles gaining pretty much no traction, I see it sneaking into the low end of the Apple top 200 now. Of course he's basically a one hit wonder so far in the UK with 'ZEZE' but I can see this getting big too. It is a better song than 'ZEZE' so I wouldn't mind that, although if Kodak had to ever have a big hit here it definitely should have been 'Transportin''. x

Really hope a couple of the Encanto songs chart. Wasn’t expecting them to do so well on Spotify.

I haven't seen it, is this the explanation for Edison Lighthouse?

Amazon new daily peaks in the top 100 today - source here:

#8 We Don't Talk About Bruno [Carolina Gaitán]

#14 Enemy

#20 Overseas

#21 Surface Pressure [Jessica Darrow]

#64 The Family Madrigal [stephanie Beatriz]

#65 Ghost

#72 What Else Can I Do? [Diane Guerrero & Stephanie Beatriz]

#95 Waiting On A Miracle [stephanie Beatriz]

So a 5th track from Encanto joins. I missed it at the time, but Seventeen Going Under (currently #16) got a new peak of #14 two days ago.

I am expecting the soundtrack to have around the same, if not a little less impact than the Moana soundtrack. It is another Lin Manuel Miranda soundtrack (Hamilton guy) like Moana was. 3 out of the 9 songs are in Spanish, so that won’t help with a UK audience not very receptive to songs that aren’t in English.

Incredible how well the Encanto songs are doing

I love Surface Pressure and We Don’t Talk About Bruno, both instant and good fun, would be nice to see them chart once the Christmas songs depart.

The film is good too, incredible animation and a nice little story.

What brought the first #1 of the 70s "Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)" back into the top 50?

TikTok

Woah top 50 for Edison Lighthouse, that's wild :o imagine that being played on the chart show in 2022!

it's a TikTok trend - further explanation was on the previous page:

There was a TikTok on my For You Page yesterday with lyrics from this exact song highlighted on top of a photo montage, I think they were:

"She ain't got no money

Her clothes are kinda funny

Her hair is kinda wild and free

Oh, but love grows where my Rosemary goes"

so I presume it's that part catching on! It really stood out to me as I knew it from being a retro U.K. #1 and thought how random

that’s gotta be the most random tiktok revival of an old hit ever

but at least the tiktok algorithm gods chose to revive the first number one of the 70s, rather than the last number one of the 60s

Sam Fender re enters the Spotify chart at #168 with the lead song off his album from 2019, Hypersonic Missiles. Any particular reason this has randomly re entered, TikTok?

it was also bopping in and out the chart before christmas.

probably a mixture of tiktok and people discovering sam fender off his new stuff getting popular.
