ouch at how much Bruno has collapsed this week!

glad to see Dave still doing the big numbers as the Aitch song doesn't really deserve to be a #1 hit imo.

impressed at how big of a jump the 'Go' remix has had, I mean it is a big improvement over the original but that doesn't usually translate into top 100 on Spotify. perhaps this really is the year DnB comes back in a big way.

boo at this Glad U Came interpolation looking like it's actually going to be a big hit now though.

In BMWs defence - Yorkshire as a whole has a population the size of London - and no Yorkshire city is included in that 6 cities!!

I don't doubt that it may have higher streams legitimately in Yorkshire than it does elsewhere but it's rather a stretch to imagine it'd be doing so well there (/ other regions) that it'd be top 10 nationwide without even being top 40 in any of the highlighted cities!

Fun fact:

Today is the first day (excluding that day Spotify was partly down last week) that Bruno has been below 200k on Spotify since the 3rd of January! The hype is definitely dying down, although I can definitely see it sticking around the top 40 for for a while yet.

With the Go remix doing well, when was the last time that an original song and a remix both did so well that each could be considered a hit in their own right? Last I can think of is In For The Kill with its original and the Skream remix (where they're both genuinely famous and the song combined ended up doing extremely well in the weekly and year-end charts because of that). In the US this happened with Summertime Sadness but in the UK in that case it was all about the remix. I can think of Spectrum but original didn't do much the whole time, it was low top 100 at its peak. I know Bad Habits had some semi-successful remixes but they weren't that big. Look Right Through had an original version which I discovered at the time and loved but nobody else knows it, I've never heard it anywhere and I don't remember it doing anything on iTunes.

Obviously I'm not including "remixes" where the song is the same but with an added verse from another artist. Proper dance remixes. I think the last time I happened is In For The Kill unless I've missed something.

London Grammar - Hey Now and London Grammar Hey Now - Arty remix were both quite popular at the same time iirc? Albeit sadly it was only a low top 40 hit combined?

Wellerman, I believe the original Nathan Evans version of that had done well enough to have been a top 40 hit in its own right if the versions were unconvinced. though it obviously wasn’t as big as the dance remix.

The Seeb remix of 'Hymn For The Weekend' by Coldplay was top 40 for several weeks on Spotify (I don't remember ever hearing it but I think that has to count).

edit: 'Wellerman' is of course much more recent than that though.

Love how you say "hype dying down" when the was number one for months.

I think it's more than hype...

Never heard of that Skream remix of In for the Kill and was a huge La Roux fan back then

Was also following the charts religiously back then and can't recall that remix or any remix helping the song

It was absolutely massive! Was one of the main reasons the song broke top 10 after weeks stuck just outside. If I ever heard the song in a club around that time, it was the remix being played.

Either can't have been following them that religiously or you had forgotten...

Wow it was literally EVERYWHERE at the time. Radio 1 even playlisted it if I recall correctly (or a least spun it on rotation with the original)

would love to see that iTunes chart with the 2 versions cos I don't recall at all, maybe I can find the old iTunes thread

^Thanks I also found it t Havenforum and was reading it there

sure the remix helped then, although the original was always the highest charting version on iTunes

at its peak the original version was at #2 on iTunes with the remix peaking at #11 on iTunes
