Only 1 of Harry's singles has ever hit the Number 1 spot - despite huge songs from the last album, none of them ever made it.

No, but his last album has stayed around for a while plus he launched the campaign with 'Lights Up' which is arguably the weakest of the singles off the album, so if he puts out a strong track, he should do well.

I agree - but my point was just because he's releasing its not automatically going to be Number 1.

He had a great last album and had massive continued success with it, so yeah is in a strong position going forward into this era.

I don't see why he can't easily sail to the top, sales aren't exactly high right now and he's a major star compared to when the Fine Line era began.

Exactly plus Dave has had a massive tumble in streams this week so he's no longer the strong challenge he was a couple weeks ago
Yeah I would say he’ll get a lot of curious listens with whatever he releases tomorrow. Fine line seemed to have a fairly broad appeal compared to his first album. So he could do a one week wonder like sign of the times did.

I'm not going to say it's a guaranteed #1, that's almost jinxing it, but I do think Harry has a good chance of reaching the top with As It Was. The level of hype is extremely high and I don't think the lack of #1s from the Fine Line era means anything - the biggest hit was post-album and we know Watermelon Sugar vastly overperformed for a post-album single (as did both Falling and Golden, in an era where post-album singles seem dead in the water for the most part). Watermelon Sugar is now the biggest 1D-related hit and Fine Line's had a better run than most albums in recent years, plus his profile has only grown too. Nothing's guaranteed but I think he's in as good a position as possible!
We have had quite a lot of post album release hits in recent times. Doja Cat, Bieber etc.

More than the couple of years prior perhaps but they're still a much rarer thing than they once were. Doja's two post-album singles (Need to Know and Woman) were TikTok-fuelled rather than label-pushed initially (meanwhile current single Get Into It, pushed as a single months after it went viral on TikTok, is lingering low top 100), while Ghost was another case of outperforming expectations I think it's fair to say!

Surely the return of Harry Styles is one of the most anticipated releases of the year after the success of the last era!
