It's worrying that Shawn can't get a hit with this when it's very much his usual formula. Would have been a Top 10 hit with ease in 2016-2019.

 

This is pretty much the answer tbh - there are several new IT male pop stars like Kid Laroi and Harry Styles and Shawn has his fans but not really a general following any more.

at the end of the day it's all cos of HH, he's currently track #48, so no way he's gonna get a hit with such pitiful support

HH added it early but kept it all these weeks at around track #40, which is not help enough to get yourself a big hit

at least this time he made the top 40 in week 1, thats better than his last couple singles

 

Im sure if the label would send a check and have the song 30 places higher on HH, then it would be a hit

and still not convinced his shelf life has expired

 

 

I'd be very surprised if it managed to sneak back into the Top 40 at this rate, even Wonder and Monster managed a few weeks in there.

You don't need a fanbase for a hit. You just need a good song and Spotify support.

 

Fanbases are for tours and albums. Singles are for the casual music listeners.

"a good song and Spotify support"... I'd say just "Spotify support", don't think having a good song is that decisive :D

But there are songs high on Hot Hits that never become actual big hits?

 

I think people overestimate play listing here. Sure, it helps to get the background plays when the song is on several big playlists and ranks pretty high there but it certainly does not make a non-top 40 hit suddenly a top ten hit if it ranks higher on some playlists.

They've still got Elley down near the bottom 3 when it's making gains on Spotify and outside the top 40 in both. You'd have thought they'd at least bump it up 20 places or something. I guess you shouldn't have to rely on a good HH placement to do well but a lot of songs really do struggle on their own without decent playlist support.

 

Shawn doing poorly is surprising tbh. The song was released the same week as Harry's and he's had a successful career as well for the most part. It's a great song too that'd be another top 10 (or even just a top 20) for him a few years ago.

Also, it has great playlisting globally and it kind of bombed still after the first couple of days. It is actually #7 on Today's Top Hits which has over 30 million subscribers and yet it's only #41 on global Spotify. Based on your theory about playlists it should be at least top 20 with that alone?

I love the Shawn Mendes song, to be honest, so when it went straight into the Top 40, I had high hopes that it would be a reasonable hit. I think even Scott Mills said on the Chart Show that he expected it to climb. I was quite surprised to see it fall out the following week, but if Spotify support is as it is then I guess it was inevitable.

When You're Gone hasn't reached the Amazon top 100, which most multi-week Top 40 hits do.

 

No Role Modelz has a new Spotify peak of #77 on its 470th day on the chart.

I guess his moments just over which is a shame because he's one of my favourite pop stars of the last few years. It would be nice to see When You're Gone take off, it's chart run in its first two weeks is virtually identical to Treat You Better which went on to be a huge hit but When You're Gone just seems to be slipping by without much notice. I guess it just didn't connect or that people want a different sound now.
I haven't seen anyone mention this, but I wonder if Spotify's update (I think a couple of months ago) has had a major effect on artists promoting new singles. You used to get an artist's discography of singles/albums listed in chronological order under their top 5/10 by default, putting the newest stuff in the forefront, but now that's stuck behind fiddly tabs with the default being 'Popular releases'. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people who ended up listening to the newest release did so out of convenience and they're now listening to their established material instead. It's a subtle change that takes away some of the former prominence and attention from new singles.

This has a quite annoying and very TikToky high pitched vocal. It also seems to mention Digga D a lot, maybe he should do a remix of it.

 

Is All for You by Cian Ducrot becoming a hit. It's incredibly dominant on ITunes and has now made its first Spotify appearance

 

Maybe it should have been Ireland's Eurovision entry! As for Ireland's actual Eurovision entry from Brooke is nowhere to be seen in the spotify/apple top 200 yet, but it is quite poppy and modern sounding so it has a good chance of being a UK hit after Eurovision.
