Both his entries make the top 30 but this is the first one out. Re-released in 99 it went top 10 all over again.

I wasn't familiar with the Crockett theme either. Sounds great though. Was playing 'You Win Again' last night ironically. Interesting it was #1 on one of the same weeks as this.

'1999' is super. My second fave of Prince's behind 'When Doves Cry'

O Superman missing the top 30 on a tie-break :drama: though I don't mind Crockett's Theme.

Prince's 1999 is where he started pushing all the right buttons and struck gold, with even better to come. Always found it funny that it peaked higher on its reissue at the start of the year 1999 than at the end going into 2000 as that's what the song is about

Crockett's Theme getting that high is amazing, I've never watched the show it's from, but it's such a great building song with so many layers and amazing instrumentation. I am pleasantly surprised so many others here love it too!

Can't believe how long 'Crockett's Theme' has lasted in this! I've loved it ever since I first heard it (despite also never seeing the show) but didn't imagine that many people would rally behind an instrumental in a big way. Especially after 'Chi Mai' dropped out so early. Those three sets of 22 *.*

Two of my votes out in one fell swoop there with '1999' too, one of my favourite singles of his

Crockett's Theme is just lovely, far better than you'd think a TV theme would be. Sheena Easton was the love interest to Crockett, he got widowed, oops spoiler alert! Way better music than the show at any rate, but it did wonders for men wanting to fold their sleeves backwards on their baggy suits, and perms. Not me. Jan Hammer did a lot of good TV theme work.

1999 is a classic, I bought it in 1983 before Prince was a thing and it was a minor hit, and I also bought Little Red Corvette when it flopped in the UK in 1983, so by the time the millennium dawned I'd lived through 4 chart lifetimes of hits for 1999 and years as a classic oldie, and I'd reached saturation point. So no points from me. When Doves Cry, Let's Go Crazy, Take Me With U, Sign O The Times, I Wish U Heaven, Kiss, U Got The Look and for others, Nothin Compares 2 U, I Feel For You, 101, Manic Monday are just a few of the classics I'd choose over 1999 these days.

amazed people like the Miami vice song so much, it's ok but I mean if you told me make me a playlist with the 1000 best songs of the 80s, I wouldn't include it :o or I wouldn't even think about it for a sec

1999 is great from Prince but I prefer many other singles from him

Our 3rd favourite no 2 of 1989 “featured” Felly but it was reality Ya Kid K. Crazy times in the 80s.

Upside Down Diana Ross (Voter: AaronTM- 28pts, Leonardo- 11pts, Popchartfreak- 11pts, Jimwatts- 26pts, Gezza- 21pts, AH Gold- 12 pts, *Dandy- 2pts, Daan- 15pts, …Ready for it- 16pts, Torple-12pts)

(#2 for 2 weeks in August 1980 behind “The Winner Takes It All” by Diana Ross)

2nd favourite No 2 of 1980 exits the rate. Ross got some magic from Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards on the production for this track- her biggest hit in 9 years at the time.

Upside Down is the best Diana Ross song outside of The Supremes. Not coincidentally it was produced by Nile and Bernard, like many more of the best songs of the time.

Pump Up The Jam was fun, albeit continuing the trend of getting better looking fronts to less-good-looking peoples vocals. It's almost as if pop music is shallow or something....!

Doh! Diana gone, a Chic-tastic classic and the first great record she'd done in 4 years, to tell the truth.

Her great solo records by year go: 1970 Ain't No Mountain, 1971 I'm Still Waiting Surrender 1976 Love Hangover 1980 Upside Down My Old Piano 1986 Chain Reaction 2022 Turn Up The Sunshine. There's some very decent ones amongst them too, but far more dross. Her Supremes career is greater than her solo career, 5 years vs 52 years. Good to have her back though!

We are finally up to the point where I actually know most of the songs being posted haha. 'Pump Up The Jam', 'Electric Avenue' and 'Gold' are my faves since I last posted here, and I think I've only heard 'O Superman' like once ever but I do remember that one listen being quite captivating (am sure it'd be a bigger fave for me if I knew it better), certainly a unique big hit so it's cool to see that doing so well here.

for me Pump up the Jam fits more the silly song category rather than the classic one :D

never a fan of Diana Ross sorry

A wait of 16 years between top 3 hits for Harrison when this almost went all the way hovering at No 2 for month. A new rate record of 12 voters (50%) slung points at this one- the third favourite No 2 of the 1987.

Certainly our preferred Erasure No 2 of the 80s and their breakthrough.

That is not how I remember the George Harrison video. I’m not sure what I do remember it being like but it wasn’t that!
