(#2 for 1 week behind “Total Eclipse Of The Heart” by Bonnie Tyler)

Another new rate record of 17 voters hands the Eurythmics the title of our favourite No 2 of 1983- maybe it’s those synths! It’s also the highest placed track on the rate not to get a 30 from anyone and Fiesta becomes the first voter to lose all their points.

All of the top 4 were in my top 5 - you all have excellent taste :D

Sweet Dreams is fabulously 80s.

And that's my top 10 gone. Sweet Dreams is minimalist and mesmerising - the finest moment for both of the Eurythmics.
Expected 'Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)' a little higher (would not have called Dusty as the highest female voice in this :P) but ah well, a brilliant start to the top 5 *.*

I guess Sweet Dreams is another one that’s been slightly murdered by local radio over my lifetime; the only reason it didn’t quite make my votes really.

I am really shocked at high PSBs are - I know they had 3 in the #1s Top 10 but I didn’t realise this one was regarded as a classic in the same way. I guess the PSB vote wasn’t split this time which probably helped.

It’s my favourite PSB song by far, always has been and wonderful to see others like it as much as me!

So the top 4 each share the 12 maximum points left in the rate.

Points wise as we head into the top 4 the only voters with more than 100 points left are:

Jester- 112

Popchartfreak- 101

*Dandy 101

Oh I love PSB and Dusty more than some of their #1s, definitely a worthy top 5 placing imo
I think it’s more important to know who was leading at the top 5 point :D

Shush :(

Adore In The Air Tonight, that and Ultravox were denied number 1's at the start of 1981. If you like that Phil track take a listen to Genesis' Mama which is even more unsettling, but equally fab.

Eurythmics absolute classic, start of a brilliant synth run of singles and albums, and Annie quite deserves second place in terms of singing only to someone she would accept is the best British singer of all-time. NO question, it's Dusty. Her passion, phrasing, soulful, flawless way of singing sounds so natural and yet she analysed every single note and inflexion in a song. That's why the PSB's wanted to work with her, gave her a comeback with one of their greatest songs, and then donated some more great songs for her solo career, like the flawless Daydreaming (not a single. Why not? Dusty: I don't know, ask the boys...), In Private and the awesome Nothing Has Been Proved. I can't understate enough how every record library should have Dusty Springfield Greatest Hits in it....

So, yes, top 4 is entirely appropriate :D

Great to see Sheena Easton's Prince forgotten classic get a mention twice. 101 didn't even make the BJSC final either! OK it wasnt a number 2, but thats the only 101 in music that counts :teresa:

Sadly looking like my 2 other biggie pointers are up next, leaving the usual number 2 all-time winners to battle out for the top spot.

oh poor Sweet Dreams, really thought it was gonna be top 3 minimum

surprised it's "only" 5, great song indeed

should have been a #1 instead of their other #1 :D

Vienna Ultravox (Voters: JulianT- 24pts, Jade- 30pts, Chez Wombat- 27pts, King Rollo- 30pts, Chartjack2- 24pts, Colm- 29pts, Popchartfreak- 19pts, Jimwatts- 20pts, Jester- 30pts, AH Gold- 14pts, *Dandy- 23pts, Daan- 26pts, Bjork- 10pts, Torple- 21pts)

(#2 for 4 weeks in February/March 1981 behind “Woman” by John Lennon and “Shuddup Ya Face” by Joe Dolce Music Theatre)

Another 3 voters (Jester, Jade, and King Rollo) lose their 30 pointers, but “Vienna” is crowned our favourite No 2 of 1981 so a little popjustice is returned to it.
