I don’t expect Drake will do quite as big numbers as CLB this time around given it is

1- a complete surprise album with no pre release hype

2- has little in the way of hip hop / rap in the album

3- has a mixed to negative reaction from the fans because of this

 

Plus CLB having a universal meh at best reaction as well (and that's still very recent). He managed to keep the initial hype for that era despite 'Scorpion' not going over amazingly well but there's only so many times in a row he can drop mid albums before his numbers take a bit of a hit.

 

This album still seems to be doing better than 'Dark Lane Demo Tapes' at least anyway, but certainly an underwhelming start (by his standards) for what is meant to be a studio album. Can't help but feel he may have been better off from a marketing perspective just calling this one a mixtape again. It would definitely fit the bill for one with it being so soon after his last album, a complete musical pivot and dropping with no warning.

Literally could not be further from the truth :lol: He started teasing it well over a year in advance (at the same time as 'Dark Lane Demo Tapes'), initially was meant to be dropping in summer 2020 but was delayed a few times. Even the album title was confirmed over a year before it dropped. The only thing that was 'out of the blue' about its release was that it didn't end up including any already released singles.

 

Really quite insulting to dance as a genre :lol:

 

Even Drake's worst music is better than quite a large chunk of recent mainstream dance hits though x

Interesting that 'Massive' is already Drake's highest track on UK Apple Music now, definitely seems to be overperforming here compared to the US (it's still only his 8th highest on US Apple Music, and it debuted as his 9th highest song on US Spotify compared to being his 5th highest here). It's also doing moderately well on iTunes for what little that's worth.

 

Drake aside, great to see LF SYSTEM's numbers still increasing and 'Mixed Emotions' finally impacting the Spotify top 200!

Yeah its a good song originally but this dance remix is a bit basic for my tastes instrumentally. I still want it to be a hit because of the novelty of it including a 'whatcha gonna do' spoken word vocal and it not being Jax Jones :lol:

The final song on the Drake album now being the highest song from it on Spotify! (It helps that it's the only song with a feature and also apparently the only actual hip-hop song on the album, which kind of says a lot about what the Drake fanbase thinks about this house pivot lol)

 

Good to see the big boost for Kate again, hopefully she can still stay #1 this week then.

More confident Kate can stay and challenge for the top spot again on Friday after seeing those figures, hope she can hold more now and Harry might middle out with his tour ending!

Hopefully a second week at the top for Kate and then maybe LF System or Joji will have grown big enough to give us a new #1.

 

And Drake's 20th crap release of the decade to flop hard because its deserved lmao.
