June 17, 20224 yr Author  Missed the top 40 this week? Halsey So Good 1st single from forthcoming studio album Released: 9th June 2022 Label: Capitol Records Video N6tv11_KMiM Biography Halsey (born Ashley Nicolette Frangipane in 1994) was frustrated when critics mistook her defining single, “New Americana,” from her 2015 debut BADLANDS, as an aspirational anthem rather than the satire of American pop culture she intended. But this LA-by-way-of-New Jersey songwriter has always mingled cynicism with awe: You don’t post a parody of Taylor Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble” to YouTube if you don’t crave that glamour a little bit. And whatever she had intended, Halsey’s forays into early vlogger culture made her a star without sacrificing the circumspect side she learned as a young woman living on New York City’s streets. In the wake of Lorde and Lana Del Rey, she helped shift the outcasts and rebels towards pop’s center. Even as she’s progressed to Billboard highs and Grammy nods, Halsey continues to straddle that uneasy divide. One minute, she’s working with lotharios like The Weeknd and The Chainsmokers; the next, she’s rewriting Romeo and Juliet as a bisexual epic on her second album, 2017’s hopeless fountain kingdom, and using her platform to elevate the issues that touched her as a younger woman. Call it coming full circle: She’s created a new American standard for a generation of fans who see themselves in her image. - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History 2015 34 The Feeling (Justin Bieber feat. June 17, 20224 yr Author  Missed the top 40 this week? Pharrell Williams featuring 21 Savage and Tyler, The Creator Cash In Cash Out Non-album single Released: 10th June 2022 Label: Columbia Records Video cKEwnhc8ItY Biography In an interview with Apple Music, Rob Walker, manager of the Pharrell Williams-Chad Hugo production duo The Neptunes, described the group’s early misadventures at industry meetings. They’d go in feeling optimistic. But by midway through, Pharrell would be on top of someone’s desk, rapping, going crazy, and generally blowing it. He couldn’t help himself; he just had too many ideas. “Look,” Pharrell said apologetically. “I was young, I was Aries, and I was from Virginia. And you couldn’t tell me s**t.” But the same fearless uncertainty that held him back in the beginning ended up making him one of the most transformative figures in modern pop. From his production work with Hugo (Clipse’s “Grindin’,” Kelis’ “Milkshake,” Nelly’s “Hot In Herre,” Britney Spears’ “I’m a Slave 4 U,” and countless others), his boundary-blurring albums with N.E.R.D, and his own pop-star turns (“Happy”), Pharrell has always seemed one effortless step ahead of almost everyone else in his field. He creates sounds that feel both classic and futuristic, and he helped to architect a now-familiar world where hip-hop functions as mainstream pop and pop can take on radical, avant-garde forms. He later said that when he tries to hit his target, he usually misses and just continues spiritedly fumbling ahead. Born in Virginia Beach in 1973, Williams met Hugo in junior high, launching The Neptunes professionally in their early twenties. The music they made together—both for other artists and with Shay Haley as N.E.R.D—reflected a new, utopian image of pop, drawing on everything from hardcore street rap to ’80s New Wave, funk, punk, jazz, and whatever else caught their ears. (It was weird, too: Burps, grunts, spaceship lasers, what seemed like fists banging on lockers—no other producer has made so many people dance to things that don’t sound like music.) By the mid-2010s, Williams had not only become a star in his own right (in large part through “Happy,” from Despicable Me 2, and his work on Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky”), but a multifaceted creative force tapped into the worlds of art and fashion, where he helped elevate streetwear to haute status. Once asked if he ever felt like he had to work to meet the expectations he’d created of himself, he said the only thing he served was his curiosity. - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History Pharrell Williams 2002 16 Pass The Courvoisier Part II (Busta Rhymes feat. June 17, 20224 yr Kate Running Up That Hill officially hit #1 in Ireland :cheer: https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/k...at-hill__36607/
June 17, 20224 yr Considering I love 2002 as a year in music, that's a largely awful top 10. I'll never forgive the public for making that Elvis vs JXL thing the reason 'Love At First Sight' was denied #1.
June 17, 20224 yr Lmao I forgot to check the sales chart last week - Sex Pistols returning to their peak of #2 there  (And I suppose the video streams chart was being jank as ever if Kate was a new entry at #1 there last week). Hoping Joji will get his first top 40 hit today. Also bring on Kate being confirmed as #1 ofc x
June 17, 20224 yr 4- STRIP THAT DOWN- Liam Payne Featuring Quavo (39,301) 9- SLOW HANDS- Niall Horan (32,609)
June 17, 20224 yr C'MON JOJI get in that top 40!! (if he isn't then the occ need to sort out their calculations cos it's one of the biggest songs of the week) obviously rooting for Kate Bush, even though she was already #1 last week it'd be nice to see it written in stone xx
June 17, 20224 yr Kate for her 2nd #1 will be amazing. I did double check as I was convinced she had another #1 in the 80's but nope. Be good to see OneRepublic return to the top 40 for the first time in 6 years too although I do wish it was 'West Coast' instead and Joji to also make top 40 too hopefully.
