Light years, this is a case of best vs worst for me. I really wish I could get onto kiss me once but after many tries it hasn't happened but it did give me into the blue and les sex which I do like and of course crystalize which for some crazy reason didn't make the album.
I went for KMO too, thought I’d be the only one….it’s a much better produced album.

Ya i was wondering the same who was the last minute voter as they didnt post, i agree about no competition in this round for me as the albums are the complete opposite ends of the scale in terms of all her albums.
'Light Years' no contest.

"Kiss Me Once" is easily Kylie's worst stuido album that nearly killed her career for good. Signing with Roc Nation could have been interesting with Kylie exploring new & diverse sounds, but other than the buzz single 'Skirt' & the Garibay tracks, none of them ended up on the album & instead we got something that lacked innovation & overall quite bland. The promo was non-existent, placing the blame solely on Roc Nation for that. The lead single 'Into The Blue' was literally the best & most obivous choice to kick things off, but nothing else stands out as truly memorable with quite a lot of filler moments. There are some good moments on here such as 'If Only', 'Feels So Good', 'Les Sex', 'Kiss Me Once', & 'Sleeping With The Enemy. However everything else lacks that Kylie magic with several songs taking a few listens to form a solid opinion on, as they feel very by the numbers.

The promo was bad for kiss me once plus I always felt kylie wasn't fully supportive of the album and was an album she moved away from very quickly and doesn't really go back to it. Her signing with roc nation didn't do anything for her and thankfully it was shortlived. Even though I'm not a big fan of KMO I'd like it to go gold but I'd love love if IP could overtake it and not be her lowest selling studio album.

... just joking

I think it's a half & half album really, there's enough good stuff on it to make it worthwhile but I think she was at that awkward phase in her career where they were trying to market her as a current/sexy popstar when she just wasn't that anymore and you could tell she wasn't really comfortable with it. Plus the fact commercial radio had long dumped her by that point and she didn't really stand a chance.

Thankfully with the move to a new label after this, they knew how to market her and maximise success in the areas she still can achieve it (albums/tours etc)

Yeah I totally agree. I would say the music itself was the least problematic part of the era; yes, it was Kylie by numbers, even some of the good songs tbf, but I think the songs they used to promote the album, the way the record company were trying to market and style Kylie, the way Kylie felt quite checked out, the useless promotional/release schedule, The Voice consumed most of the era and Kylie’s energy etc. - all those things combined leaves more of a bitter taste to the Kiss Me Once era.

I think it's quite an exaggeration to say that Kiss Me Once nearly killed Kylie's career. I don't believe that the situation was ever that dire. On paper it actually did reasonably well. It achieved a #2 peak and it didn't nose dive out of the chart either (second week was spent at #8). It ended up being the 93rd best selling album of 2014, and of the albums actually released within that year it was the 51st best seller. It is also a #1 peaking album in Australia! Of course it wasn't a massive era and ended up being short lived (which I blame on a misguided second single choice and bad music video)... but her career wasn't in danger.

I do agree with Aly that the album ultimately represents a transitional moment though. If we overlook that her next step was to do a Christmas album (not really a "proper" Kylie studio album) it's clear that a new label and musical direction revitalised Kylie's passion, it was evident in the 'Golden' and 'Disco' eras.

Plus she was vocally very strong in 2014/15, she performed brilliantly at Maida Vale for Radio 2, Commonwealth Games closing ceremony, the itunes festival and she looked physically very fit, especially through 2014. It’s easy to forget how cancer and the medication affected her most noticeably upto 2011. It seemed as though by 2014 she was able to perform much more strongly. No way was it anywhere close to career ending.

I agree about the transition and while kiss me once was a complete let down this time and kylie Christmas did help revitalize Kylie as i don't think either of these 2 albums are work she is hugely fond of. When Kylie was promoting Golden you could just see she was full of passion and was so excited about the material and that lacked with kiss me once, seeing her so passionate really propelled golden and was it was the same again for Disco.

Yeah I think it’s a bit of a stretch too. It should and could have done a lot better and it felt like it’s performance would be the best Kylie could hope for with album releases thereafter. I didn’t anticipate her managing to turn it around and achieve consistently selling Gold albums, but BMG have really understood how to market Kylie as a pop star in her 50s without having to solely rely on her legacy. This high point in her career doesn’t push Kiss Me Once lower though.

Kiss Me Once performance was worrying as sales stopped quickly and early and it was another time in Kylie's music career when the questions were asked if she could reverse the decline in interest for her albums.

Kylie showing yet again why she is a pop legend went on and reversed the decline releasing some perfect material with thanks to BMG who have a great understanding of how to market Kylie in today's market.
