November 3, 20222 yr bizarre that Nessum Dorma made the t50, never in a thousand years I would have predicted that (or voted for it) love Another Night and even bought the album, the singles + Automatic Lover were all great tracks
November 3, 20222 yr Ah yes cue my 30 pointer out next then... I like the latest double reveal too.
November 3, 20222 yr Author NO 48- 106 PTS Time To Say Goodbye (Con Ti Partiro) Sarah Brightman & Andrea Bocelli (Voter: Chez Wombat- 18pts, Colm- 13pts, Gooddelta- 5pts, Roba!- 9pts, Torple- 17pts, Narcow- 5pts, Leonardo- 9pts, Popchartfreak- 30pts) (#2 for 2 weeks in May 1997 behind “You’re Not Alone” by Olive and “I Wanna Be The Only One” by Eternal & Bebe Winans) Here’s Popchartfreak’s 30 pointer and a song which surprised some when it went to No 2 but it’s another example of the eclectic 90s where anything could be a massive hit! qjzJYa7tHLs
November 3, 20222 yr Author NO 47- 107 PTS No More I Love You's Annie Lennox (Voters: Steve201- 20pts, King Rollo- 17pts, Roba!- 20pts, Torple-24 pts, Leonardo- 6pts, Popchartfreak- 8pts, Dircadirca- 8pts, Dandy- 4pts) (#2 for 2 weeks in February 1995 behind “Think Twice” by Celine Dion) This cover become Lennox’s highest peaking solo hit and did considerably better than the original version. November 3, 20222 yr and there it was bang next door to Pavarotti :magic: an extremely moving and emotional piece that was. Also 'No More I Love You's' a stellar track from Annie as well but I was expecting that one to drop out sooner rather than later for some reason.
November 3, 20222 yr Me creeping into the top 5 of the voter league after snubbing the last quartet of songs
November 3, 20222 yr Top 50 clearly the glass ceiling for the opera songs then! Much like Nessun Dorma, Time to Say Goodbye has a really brilliant build and instrumental, it's really quite beautiful even if it has become a bit overused as stock sad music. I absolutely love the fact that two opera songs not only actually charted but both made number 2 in the same decade. It's part of the reason why this is my favourite decade for runners up.
November 3, 20222 yr No More I Love Yous  - again didn’t quite find room. I’m here for classical pieces doing well in general but not so fussed about those 2.
November 3, 20222 yr Time to Say Goodbye is a beautiful song, I wasn't following the charts at the time but can only imagine the surprise at it going to No.2. I guess Radio 2 must have been hammering it. Also the top five company it had when it debuted was fantastic (aside from the No Mercy follow-up) - Lovefool, You're Not Alone and Love Shine A Light joining it <3
November 3, 20222 yr Funny the operatic songs are back to back when they only had three voters in common. Love both of these , had no idea ‘No More I Love Yous’ was a cover.
November 4, 20222 yr Ah yes cue my 30 pointer out next then... NO 48- 106 PTS Time To Say Goodbye (Con Ti Partiro) Sarah Brightman & Andrea Bocelli (Voter: Chez Wombat- 18pts, Colm- 13pts, Gooddelta- 5pts, Roba!- 9pts, Torple- 17pts, Narcow- 5pts, Leonardo- 9pts, Popchartfreak- 30pts) Here’s Popchartfreak’s 30 pointer and a song which surprised some when it went to No 2 but it’s another example of the eclectic 90s where anything could be a massive hit! I wonder if Popchartfreak receives privileged information from Gezza. ;)
November 4, 20222 yr wasn't expecting Time to say Goodbye to be Pop's 30 pointer, was expecting something more Pet Shop Boys-esque :D I generally like classical music but not opera so not a big fan of any of those Really like No More I Love Yous and did buy the Medusa album back in the day, although I'm not a fan of artists putting a covers album as sophomore album or a follow-up to a big hit album
November 4, 20222 yr Author NO 46- 113 PTS My Love Is your Love Whitney Houston (Voters: Fiesta- 28pts, Riser- 9pts, Steve201- 19pts, Bjork- 25pts, Torple- 19pts, Dircadirca- 5pts, Chartjack2- 8pts) (#2 for 1 week in July 1999 behind “9PM (Til I Come)” by ATB) Whitney’s revival was cemented with this single which saw her get two top 3 singles in a row for the first time in her career. fkVkTpWEAR0
November 4, 20222 yr Author NO 45- 114 PTS I've Been Thinking About You Londonbeat (Voters: Riser- 24pts, Steve201- 15pts, Colm- 21pts, JulianT- 18pts, West- 7pts, AH Gold- 29pts) (#2 for 1 week in October 1990 behind “Show Me Heaven” by Maria Mckee) Easily this lots biggest hit which went all the way in the US. November 4, 20222 yr Think I've also climbed back into the top 5 of the voter league (well, joint 5th with Dot) after those couple of reveals - both decent songs but not really on my radar for this rate.
November 4, 20222 yr 'My Love Is Your Love' is a good Whitney track that was probably in the shortcut although I can't remember now. Edited November 4, 20222 yr by Roba!
