Agree with lots of comments in here - Truss is done now. Can't see any way back from this, I think the backbencers will rally around here now they've got what they want, but if they don't start seeing a swing in the polls then it's bad news. The damage has already been done imo, maybe saved face politically, but interest rates are still going to go up...
Dorries for Kwarteng's replacement.

Come on Liz, you know you want to!

Pretty sure Liz & Dorries don't get on, so don't bank on it.

What is a distinct possibility however, is Chancellor Rees-Mogg.

I'd put my money on Zahawi returning for a proper go of it... is what I'd say if Truss had any political sense and we know she doesn't have that. Rees-Mogg it is.

(though if it is Zahawi, for bants, he can tell the PM to resign two days after being appointed as Chancellor... twice)

Take this back - rumours awish that a group of MPs are going to publicly ask Truss to resign.

I think at this point we are gearing up for a general election in 2023.

This will probably be another one to add to my ever increasing file of terrible predictions, but given where Labour are in the polls, I cannot see the Tories voting for a General Election, given how many of them would lose their salary.

Although if we were really living in the banter era, then the Tories would call an election next year, but the last piece of legislation they pass is to bring in PR, and end up in charge in a coalition with Reform and other smaller parties.

The amount of Schadenfreude I am feeling right now cannot be measured with any man made instruments

MPs won't be given the chance to vote for an election. That went with the repeal of the Fixed Term Parliament Act.

Yeah I thought that way too, so depending on what the mood is, she may want to call a general election to go through on her mandate. Or the backbenchers can force her out similarly to Johnson. I think if the latter did happen though, how do you keep the faith of the public? That will have been two Prime Ministers selected by a small group of people in the space of less than 12 months. That to me shows that the process used is either not fair or correct and is an easy win for the opposition parties.

Any choice would be a desperate message to the 1922 not to move forward but… well, he certainly has a reputation. Though he’s managed to keep himself relatively out of Tory drama over the last few years, for now.
She's done, not seen the conference but seems like she cherrypicked Sun & Telegraph journos first, they gave her a head time, then went for BBC & ITV before thinking "feck this, I'm out of here". At this point she needs to do all the big political rounds at the weekend, but everytime she opens her mouth things get worse. I think she has messed up badly, if the Markets still can't get behind her after this then I suspect next week the Tory MPs will go for her. Suspect she will call all their bluffs and announce an early election or the 1922 Committee will find a way to oust her/force a resignation.
I mean I think Kwarteng is an arrogant corrupt shite but then Truss was 100% behind this so called "mini budget" - how can she not take responsiblity? This "growth" plan was all she ever droned on about!
I'm starting to suspect that Truss is actually still a Lib Dem. It looks like she has made it her personal mission to destroy the Tory party and she has decided that she can do more from the inside than by remaining a Lib Dem.
