Never played the game but I've been intrigued by the hype of the show online. Watched the lot so far this evening and I am floored at how good this is

  • Do you mean the Bloaters? The one that Tommy kills with fire. That's some game homage. It's just a different stage of the infected. There's another stage which might show up this season which is simil

It's interesting to read the differences between people who have played the game and those who haven't — both sides seem disappointed, but in similar yet different ways. I was worried going into this

Oh come on! The Last of Us games are amongst the very top tier of games ever. The storyline in the first game is fairly basic, but the themes throughout that run through are so strong. The second game

That was seriously good, the editing and transitioning was something else. Nick Offerman surely getting an Emmy for that.

Big change up from the games with the narrative , but it makes a lot of sense, has a beautiful ending and ties in to the theme of what the show is all about with

some very nice foreshadowing.

they fleshed out a minor character (Frank) and delivered some world building too.

Episode 3 is truly wonderful, some incredibly moving performances and I very nearly welled up when On The Nature of Daylight started playing  They could've so easily framed that as some generic 'couple fighting to survive and bad military kills them', but they kept it completely human showing even in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, love can still survive. Stunning ...so of course it's being review bombed because society xx

It sounds great but I'm not sure if I'm ready to watch a pandemic dystopia show

While in a post-Covid world, some of the lines and scenarios do hit a tad closer to home. I really wouldn't let this put you off. For one, it's based on a game from 2013 and is more reminiscent of something like The Walking Dead as it is ultimately a zombie horror series that is quite far away from our own lives, just with that human touch that makes you really care about the characters.

Didn’t Last Of Us 2 get released in 2020, at the height of the pandemic? this series post-pandemic will be fine

Just rewatched Episode 2 and they added a small tribute to Annie Wersching (VA for Tess) after the end credits

More

Henry and Sam

in the next episode, so excited!

They've changed the story up for the TV show (to save time I assume as there's a lot to cover).

Can't wait to see if Henry/Sam punches the same way as the game.

Some much needed Joel/Ellie relationship building in ep 4.

So I've started watching this as the reviews have been so positive, it does feel like a long unplayable scene of a game. The way they climb ladders in episode one and the camera view through the car scenes. I'm intrigued though as, for the narrative to work, presumably the gameplay in this was basically just the walking between set scenes? What else was there to it? Was it a strategy/puzzle type game or was it essentially shooting mushroom zombie people?
Yeah the game is more Resident Evil-esque where you’re engaging in combat most of the time so something had to give when they adapted it to fit the TV series format. The scene where they introduce clickers, for example, was laced in with game play.

This has been increasing in viewers every week so far.

This weeks episode growing after calls of boycott after episode 3 and "they're going to lose viewers after this"... is just... *chef's kiss*

Just outstanding drama/horror series. I haven't played the game but I LOVE seeing people talk about the parallels and how it's all paying off and working etc.. Amazing stuff so far!

Why did people call for a boycott after Episode 3??

Because it was a homosexual relationship depicted on screen and because we live in society, there is always a vocal minority that has a problem with that and think it's a 'woke agenda' (Don't go to that part of YouTube, it's not fun x)

The episode 3 hate wasn't just because of the homosexuality aspect (although undoubtedly some of it is(, they change a lot up from the game and Bill doesn't die either in the game, plus a lot of people are not a fan of the bottle episodes because of the Joel/Ellie relationship. If you think that's bad, just wait until Season 2.

The game was a third person stealth/action game. Episode 3 is the big diversion, but you get a lot of one take gameplay "levels" with the dialogue thrown in to build the relationships up. Stuff like Ellie's pun book is memorable in the game. Obviously they've had to make Joel in to less of a superhuman clicker killing machine in the TV show.

Episode 5 is my favourite episode yet. It has the intensity, character development and emotion. Plus

somehow they made Henry and Sam's death even more enotional in the TV show. Although TV show Henry is definitely way less of an ass than he is in the game.

I thought as much -_- but as a non gay man I see relationships like this all over tv in this day and age, I didn’t bat an eyelid at it!

God episode 5 was unreal although

Why do all the characters die after like 2 episodes

😕

This is one of the best new shows around at the moment, I was not sure it would be any good at first, but its got better and better on every episode, would have loved if Tess was one of the regular leads throughout the series, as I remember Anna from The Fringe, which had parallel worlds. I wish they didn't kill Joe's daughter after 1 episode, mind you I wasn't aware the series was based on a computer game, this is all new to me. As for Ellie, I really find her irritating at times. At least now I have caught up, as I have seen all 5 episodes back to back, which I find better to follow.

RE the spoiler

there's room for more development in the game and they killed off more in the TV show, but it's all done as symbolism. The deaths are really important for Ellie and Joel. Hard to say without saying too much, but all the deaths have character pay-offs. Got to remember the show is about love and what that can do to people.

The Sam and Henry stuff was done waaaay better in the game. Here, it was too quick, and there wasn't as much character development.

Also, Kansas City is KAPUT!! That's what you get when you leave the gates open and get rid of the military!

It's hard because they don't have the same amount of time as the game. Sam and Henry are important for Ellie's character development, so they couldn't cut them.

As someone who hasn't played the game (and nor have I watched a run through of it or whatever), episode 5 was one of the most perfectly paced, brilliantly directed episodes of TV I have seen in a long time. I think it's one of my favourite episodes of TV I have ever seen. So, SO good!

I thought the execution was pretty perfect considering how little time you have in an episode vs how long you spend with characters in a video game. The way they clearly managed to make non-players of the game feel something for Sam and Henry in just 50 minutes is impressive.

I will say though — I'm intrigued with how they're going to now fit Tommy + University + Winter/David + Left Behind + Hospital in just four episodes.
