September 29, 20222 yr But why? Why not? Artists with far less success have released far more back catalogue cash ins
September 29, 20222 yr Author Why not? Artists with far less success have released far more back catalogue cash ins I think it must be a wider thing with the old SyCo roster - a label called Cooking Vinyl are doing this reissue, and I saw the other day that Alexandra Burke's first album "Overcome" is getting a vinyl reissue too that they're doing.
September 29, 20222 yr Looking back Shayne did have decent success with his debut and the follow up. Though with the 4 year gap afterwards and coming back with a Nickelback cover he was definitely set up to fail by Syco at the time. ‘No Promises’ is still such a tune though!
September 29, 20222 yr I have to be honest... His Breathless album was brilliant. There were very few songs on that which didn't have replay value.
September 30, 20222 yr I have a soft spot for Shayne! I loved his debut album at the time (I even went to the tour that supported it in 2007), and his follow up album was definitely a step up in quality. It feels easy to forget just how big those two eras were for him. I’ll never understand why the label abandoned the Breathless album in 2008. They released the album on 26th November 2007 and then never released a post album single, even though the album sold a pretty impressive 397,000 copies in those 5 weeks in the chart in 2007. The 27th best selling album of that year. It had two pre-album singles (If That’s OK With You & No U Hang Up) but for some reason they ended up being released together as a Double A Side, and then the single Breathless followed it up - so technically the album only had two singles. Surely there was scope for a third? Something about the third album didn’t really do it for me. To be superficial for a moment, he looked incredible, but the music just wasn’t exciting. The lead single felt dated on arrival, a backwards step. As previously mentioned, he left it too long. Years had passed since he’d released Breathless, so he inevitably felt like old news. Anyway, good for him that he’s having this moment to celebrate his accomplishments with this anthology and vinyl. I would have liked the second album on vinyl as well but I see why they probably feel that the debut is the most worthy one to press.
September 30, 20222 yr Omg, this xx I wouldn't even be mad if he went full "show hole", despite it showing a lack of decorum. xoxo Edited September 30, 20222 yr by tommie

I must admit Jay I liked Shayne as well, he had such an amazing voice, one of the show's best in its history. He was just messed around a lot in terms of styling and releases, which I think is the reason why his career under SyCo Music was so short. He won X Factor pre-Leona winning, so this was before the template of the winner disappearing for a year to establish themselves and come back as a fully formed artist in their own right with the new series was established. The second album was brilliant - I had it on again on Spotify last night just to remind me and it was the moment where they captured lightning in a bottle. So many missed single opportunities - "U Got Me So" and "Damaged" would have been brilliant in particular. I'm half tempted to get this boxset I must admit!
October 1, 20222 yr I like a few of his singles, I do think syco really threw in the towel too quickly as he was doing very well but they lost interest in him to quickly if they hadn't he could have had a good few more hits I'd say alot more went on behind the scenes than we know of. But syco were very much a flavour of the month label and moved on very quickly. In later tears, syco/x factor would have killed for the shayne type of success.

Yes, Cooking Vinyl an independent label have obtained the rights for re-issues, hopefully they will do a full Leona re-issue too.
October 1, 20222 yr Yes, Cooking Vinyl an independent label have obtained the rights for re-issues, hopefully they will do a full Leona re-issue too. Yep, they didn't buy his catalogue. Syco still owns his first three albums.
October 1, 20222 yr Shayne is possibly one of the most mismanaged popstars ever. As Jay pointed out, he had a lot going for him. A hugely successful winners single, a big follow up hit and no.1 album and also a big second album that also spawned two big hits. When I think of Shayne, I always think of a girl I was at school with. When she was 16 she was diagnosed with Huntingtons disease and her mum wrote to Shayne who then came to visit her when she was feeling low. She passed away aged 30 in 2019 and as I said, I always think of her whenever Shayne comes up. But I think Leona Lewis exploding with her debut left him on the shelf. SyCo were never good with anyone past their debut era and sometimes not even for the debut era. We then got a mantra going that ‘only the girls are a success’ following Leona and Alexandra and by the time they allowed Shayne to release again, the ‘boys are always flips’ stigma went against him despite being the exception to that. I’d hoped at that time that Matt Cardle would buck the trend and the stigma but he didn’t. I can’t believe our of everyone that James Arthur ended up being the male success story :drama:
October 1, 20222 yr I agree with all the above about Shayne being severely mismanaged he really had the whole package the looks the incredible voice he could dance he should have been pushed a lot more instead he was abandoned for some unknown reason… well we know why it’s because Syco are not interested in actually investing in their acts as seen with so many others, it’s a quick cash in then abandon them.
October 2, 20222 yr To be fair he did have two successful albums so it wasn't as much of a 'one album' thing as it did end up being. He wasn't established enough to have 3 years off although it seems what he returned with wasn't strong enough with either if with the platform of 15 million viewers he couldn't utilise that.
October 2, 20222 yr His best album was the last one involving Mike Stock. This release doesn’t appeal to me. I already have the deluxe cds for the first two albums released in Asia and there is nothing new on this which wasn’t included on them!
