...actually am just catching up with the Celebrity RIP thread in the Lounge and spotted another one from the other day that I completely missed, Martin Duffy from Primal Scream D: Can perhaps give 'Loaded' a play after previously commenting on 'Rocks' not being as good as that x

The Specials songs that I'm most familiar with are 'Ghost Town' and 'Free Nelson Mandela' but obvz the former is a #1 and the latter was released after Terry Hall left the band so would not make much sense to play.

As the only voter for The Specials in the best groups rate I'll cast a vote for 'Gangsters'. The others in my top 3 by them are 'Friday Night, Saturday Morning' which is almost entirely Terry so would also be fitting albeit lesser known, and 'Nelson Mandela' but from after he left as Bré said - as also seen, it rivals Tina Turner's 'The Best' as one of the most misquoted song titles in history :kink:

I was going to suggest 'Salva Mea' for Faithless, but 'Insomnia' deserves a play if it wouldn't have appeared otherwise.

Thanks for the tracklists Bré! Hope everyone had a great Christmas.

Ooft, I missed some real classics last week, belated love to Linger and Live Forever in particular <3 I also would love to hear Insomnia if it wasn't the most streamed on the two Greatest Hits albums.

Rough list of the #1 albums covered this week (not sure if Paul McCartney will make it but also not sure anyone will want anything from that anyway x)

edit: actually all of the 1997 ones are going into next week instead!

Better zoom through making the playlist :kink: went out for lunch with the family and thought it'd be safe to leave it until I got home but we were out a little longer than I expected, hopefully will be alright anyway!

Also to add another to the list of RIP slots this week, seen that Jeremiah Green of Modest Mouse has passed away sadly - they were never a big UK chart act and I'm not sure how well people will know them but I'd like to use this as an opportunity to play 'Dashboard' by them because it's a banger ('Float On' is more popular but Jeremiah doesn't seem to have been on that song).

Boys for Pele <3 I still remember NME made a review and had a drawing of Tori with a Brazilian soccer t-shirt

when the song has nothing to do with the Brazilian footballer but with Pele the Hawaiian Goddess <3

The album is a masterpieve but not for everyone, very dark and barroque with lots of harpsichords and strange pianos

for me:

Tori Amos-Boys for Pele (Caught a Lite Sneeze)

Bjork-Post (Hyperballad)

MSP-Everything must go (No Surface all Feeling)

Manic Street Preachers- Kevin Carter

Ocean Colour Scene- The Riverboat Song

Jamiroquai- Virtual Insanity

Fugees- Fu-Gee-La

Björk - Hyperballad

Fugees - Fu-Gee-La

Manic Street Preachers - Everything Must Go [though No Surface All Feeling is a great shout too]

Tori Amos - Caught a Lite Sneeze

Manic Street Preachers - Everything Must Go

Bjork - Hyper-ballad

Right just about got the playlist ready in time - there are a few pretty long songs/videos again (including 2 in a row right near the start x) so only covering 39 albums (not quite a low to date but close to it), bringing us up to February 1997. And in fact all of the 1997 #2 albums there were after February so they all go into next week's session instead - not looked over the bonus suggestions yet but any there have been for those albums will carry over to next week!

A good handful more classics this week, including 2 classics in a row at one point that both surprisingly peaked as low as #11.

Kicking off here in 10 mins B-)

Will drop the tracklist from today this evening (pinkie swear) but those of you who didn't stick around until 8 you missed a truly iconic end to the session :cheeseblock:

Happy that these sessions have continued to be such a success anyhoo, just some appreciation for all of you guys who keep attending and making this such fun to do each week. Zooming towards the turn of the millennium already but of course the volume of 1 week #1 albums is just going to keep going up so still plenty of material for months to come x
