In a way it’s strange that the album chart is a total free-for-all when it comes to how many physical formats are allowed, yet the singles chart still restricts it to 3. It’s a bit archaic at this point surely.

 

Someone on Popjustice is convinced that if one of the 3 original physicals is deleted/not on sale, then a new 4th physical can take its place as one of the 3, but I’m not convinced that’s true? Or else wouldn’t lots of artists do that? Almost always they stick to three or less. Then again there’s 5 vinyl & a cassette for the new Beatles single. :thinking:

I’ve heard that before but agree I don’t think it’s true otherwise we’d have artists releasing 3 x 99p singles in week 1, ‘deleting’ them and doing the same on another week.

i thought the 2 CD for tension with different covers would only be classed as one physical but everyone is telling it will be classed as 2 different singles so that vinyl wont count either?

It’s an outdated rule - the fact you can have 25+ variants of an album and it’s fine yet it’s limited to 3 for singles and they’ve now stopped signed versions counting too.

I hope we eventually get to find out the total paid for sales for Padam Padam and its held on so well for months.
