Taken as the 2nd single from 'AM' it entered and peaked at #11 - it is the sole non-UK top 10 hit in this top 10. Having had a fairly decent run at the start of the decade it soon grabbed a fanbase that it has kept ever since with this being the song's 5th straight year in the top 20. With 23 voters, it was one of the contest's most wide-appealing songs (only 5 songs equalled or bested this). It also once again tops out as the most well-regarded hit of 2013, as despite its two-place fall, 'Get Lucky' fell further to #14. The song is also the highest guitar-based hit in the contest once again. With more recent Arctic Monkeys' songs not being so well-liked on the forum, next year could very well be their last in the final, with one more chance for the song to peak before its decade is out. Tonight it appears that going against Taylor Swift in the albums chart will prove to ruin their hit streak of #1 albums, however they can at least say they out-did her in the ROTD final with this. ffxKSjUwKdU 9 16 471 Ariana Grande - No Tears Left To Cry 03-04-16-09- 1st, 2018 A rebound for 'Into You' earlier was of course an indication that 'No Tears Left To Cry' would perform similarly. Indeed the song is now back in the top 10, having spent its first two years in the top 5. The song led her 'Sweetener' album campaign and proved to be a big hit with the fanbase and the general public instantly entering and peaking at #2 in the UK chart. The song was Ariana's most-voted for of the contest, with 20 votes. However, her duet with The Weeknd is still yet to appear in the rundown. The song was again produced by Max Martin and Ilya with them proving to have had a winning formula for her on 'Into You'. I have to agree that it is one of her best efforts here vocally and musically and would welcome a return back to this style of dance-pop after the RnB adjacent pop we've been getting more recently. She has perhaps wisely taken this year off after being pretty much everywhere from 2018-21 so maybe with expected new material next year we could be seeing her back in the top 5 of this rundown then.
October 28, 20222 yr Glad to see 'No Tears Left To Cry' back in the Top 10 like it deserves, but really should be challenging for #1 :( Such a stunning song, her absolute best alongside 'One Last Time'.
October 28, 20222 yr Oh well that's my 2 faves in the top 10 being 9th and 10th oop :kink: still glad they're both so high anyway especially with Ariana rebounding! 'Save Your Tears' to win now x
October 28, 20222 yr 'Do I Wanna Know?' is easily one of my favourite songs of 2013! I'm happy that it's still flying high on BuzzJack and continues to be loved en masse by streaming/Tik Tok users. 'no tears left to cry' was the perfect musical statement for Ariana, hooray for it climbing back into the top 10.
October 31, 20222 yr BOboa27SHDE 8 14 482 Katy B - Crying For No Reason 14-09-32-40-12-13-14-08- 1st, 2014 At 8 sees ‘Crying For No Reason’ climb 6 places to hit the top 10 and reach a new peak. The song has always made the final round, climbing to a high of 9th place in 2016, it then took a series of drops before climbing into the top 20 in 2019. This year however it gained 21 votes in the final round and manages to climb to nab a new peak position. The song finished top of the 2014 heat and finishes as the top placed song for that year in the final. At this stage there are 2 songs left for 2012, 1 for 2016, 3 for 2020 and 1 for 2021. ‘Crying For No Reason’ was the second song to be lifted from Katy B’s second album ‘Little Red’. The song peaked officially at 5, however has had consistent support in ROTD since it was eligible. It’s a great song, with a good build up and an amazing vocal from Katy too. She’s yet to really replicate the success of ‘Crying For No Reason on ROTD and the finals and ROTD may be a Katy B free zone in the next couple of years… 1y6smkh6c-0 7 17 488 Swedish House Mafia (feat. John Martin) - Don't You Worry Child 26-64-32-46-12-44-14-16-17-07-xx 4th, 2012 At 7, climbing 10 places this year to hit the top 10 for the first time in its final year is ‘Don’t You Worry Child’. The song has always made the final round over the last decade, however, has never placed higher than 12th. This year though it climbs 10 places to finish in 7th place and to bow out in an all-time high position. Always one of my favourite songs and an absolute banger; especially the build up and the inevitable drop. This is the highest song by Swedish House Mafia; given they’ve returned to releasing music once again and ‘Moth to a Flame’ being quite popular this year, it might not be the end for them in terms of final appearances. In total the song gained 20 votes and finishes 30pts away from 5th place. It finished 4th in the 2012 heat, however in the final is 2nd for that year behind ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’. It’s great to see this song so high; my top placed song and it’s a shame that its out of ROTD now; but good to see it go out on a high. Edited October 31, 20222 yr by ElectroBoy
October 31, 20222 yr Don't You Worry Child really epitomises the sound of that year. What a fond memory looking back <3 the world seemed a brighter place
October 31, 20222 yr Great to see both Katy B and Swedish House Mafia reaching new peaks inside the top ten, especially for the latter on its final year!
October 31, 20222 yr Do I Wanna Know? is the only song I gave points to in the final out of those at 7-10, hopefully it can have one last hurrah next year especially as I can't see any of their newer songs going very far. Just like last year, I gave points to all of the top 6 except Midnight Sky which I also like.
October 31, 20222 yr Forever one of my hottest takes but 'Don't You Worry Child' is easily my least favourite of the original run of SHM singles and I prefer nearly all of their new album to it as well. 'Crying For No Reason' is a little on the overrated end for me too but I do like it, just think she had better songs, I wish it was 'Katy On A Mission' that had this level of support!
November 1, 20222 yr I love both of those and didn't care for much of their other material oop (a hot take of my own x) Edited November 1, 20222 yr by Roba!
November 2, 20222 yr 60ItHLz5WEA 6 12 514 Alan Walker - Faded 188-16-23-26-12-06- 4th, 2016 Missing out on the top 5 by just 3pts is ‘Faded’ by Alan Walker which climbs 6 places this year to reach an all-time high position. ‘Faded’ initially debuted at 188 before taking a big climb into the top 20 the following year. Since then it has always made the final round and last year managed a new peak at 12, however this year smashes that and climbs into the top 10 for the first time. The song made it directly into the final round finishing in 4th place for 2016, however in the final vote it is the top placed song for that year. ‘Faded’ received just 15 votes in the final round which is by far the least amount of any song to reach the top 15. However what it lacked in actual votes it more than made up for in terms of where it was ranked as the majority of those giving it points had it in their top 5. A slice of EDM which seems to be getting more popular each year, I would say that I think the song is ok but there are far better dance songs in the final round. Saying that its great to see songs breaking new ground and reaching new highs. Officially the song made it to Number 7 in the UK, so It manages to outpeak that success on ROTD this year.
November 2, 20222 yr Remaining Songs Dua Lipa - Physical Gotye (feat. Kimbra) - Somebody That I Used To Know Miley Cyrus - Midnight Sky Weeknd - Blinding Lights Weeknd - Save Your Tears (Original / Ariana Grande Remix)
November 2, 20222 yr ah, Faded and Don't You Worry Child are my two favourites in the top 10, new peaks for both is fantastic though - the best of dance hits! out of the top 5 I guess I'm going for Gotye to score a parting win then, or Weeknd to win with Blinding Lights.
November 2, 20222 yr I'm surprised Faded is so high, but I'm here for it. Seems the 12 points I gave it in the final were the lowest of the 15 voters. Somebody That I Used To Know was 5th last year - hope it finishes on a new peak!
November 2, 20222 yr Faded is absolutely one of my records of the decade - there’s just something absolutely magical about it and it still sends a shiver down my spine every time. Crying For No Reason is another magical record for me; something about the production and the emotional build up I think, just beautiful.
November 2, 20222 yr Author Very pleasing to see Swedish House Mafia go out with a top 10 finish, the song perfectly encapsulates everything great about the EDM era. Alan Walker reaching the top 10 too is also great to see, Faded is a track that's been often replicated but never bettered - very much helped by the vocal although Alan's production here hits in a way his recent material fails to do (I suspect he's been heavily relying on ghost producers for the past few years now he's such a huge name too). Katy B I wouldn't rank so highly, it does amaze me that she consistently manages to do so well here though and the song is indeed great.
November 2, 20222 yr I don't really see what's so special about 'Faded', it's pretty generic to my ears, never really been a fan of anything I've heard from Alan. It must be doing something right to be so well regarded though.
November 2, 20222 yr ‘Blinding Lights’ made #2 in my chart and the other four songs hit #1 so I’m rather happy with that top 5  *.* I’m with Bré in not getting the ‘Faded’ hype unfortunately
November 2, 20222 yr Author 8UVNT4wvIGY 5 5 517 Gotye (feat. Kimbra) - Somebody That I Used To Know 19-62-49-15-80-11-13-06-05-05-xx 1st, 2012 Some of us were hoping that for their final outing Gotye & Kimbra would manage to top the ranking. However, they will indeed have to settle to match their #5 peak from last year. Despite it being a non-mover, the song however did improve on last year in terms of points (+33 on 2021) and number of voters (23 voters, +2 on 2021). The song is also the highest ranked of the 2010s, with the top 4 taken up by tracks released in the last two years. Having never once slipped out of the ROTD final during its run, the song did however gain a fair chunk of popularity in the second half of the decade, helped by the gradual shift of the voter base leaning more favourable towards indie-pop hits. The song proved popular in Australia in 2011, before crossing over worldwide the following year and becoming the biggest seller of 2012 in the UK. Gotye had since proved himself to be one of the most famous examples of a one-hit wonder though, with no follow-up reaching the chart, not that he seemed to mind as he took a lengthy hiatus since the song's huge success and has only done very low-key projects since. The guest performer Kimbra of course had no further hits either. It's an excellently written and performed song anyhow so it is great to see it go out on a high this year, and with that we say goodbye to the year of 2012 - which had 5 songs placed in the top 20 so we're due for another shake-up at the top next year.
November 2, 20222 yr Nice to see Gotye going out on a (joint) high, I don't rate it as highly as some but it's still a pretty iconic and unique hit.
