Biography

Afrorave prodigy, Rema was introduced to the world in March 2019, with the release of his self-titled debut EP, and the global hits “Corny”, “Dumebi” and “Iron Man” which was featured on Barack Obama’s Summer Playlist. His debut EP will be remembered for defining a new era for African pop. He’s released two more projects in the same year of his unveil. Together, the projects have earned Rema multiple No. 1 singles and over 200 million combined streams worldwide. Rema’s at the forefront of a generation of hitmakers taking African music around the world. The 23-year-old’s ascent to global recognition has inspired multiple mentions in global publications and platforms, including cover stories in Fader & Dazed, and features in Pitchfork and Rolling Stone which listed “Iron Man” among its best 50 songs of 2019. Building on a stellar debut year, Rema continued his global mission in 2020 with the double release of the Rvssian-assisted “Beamer (Bad Boys)” and “Rainbow”, and chart-topping “Ginger Me” and “Woman”. In 2021, Rema served up ‘Soundgasm’ as a taste of the new genre he’d pioneered, earned him over a 100 million streams on all platforms. With the release of his debut Album, Rave and Roses in 2022, followed by a 14 cities sold out tour of the United States and a collaboration with Selena Gomez on his global hit, Calm Down, Rema’s music continues its stranglehold on streaming charts, and the singer's push for global stardom is stronger than it's ever been. - Spotify

Charlie Puth got number 9 on albums

Oh wow, that's actually a massive relief after how the week started! Brilliant!

Yet another new peak by 1 place for Burna/Ed :cheeseblock:

Cian top 20  at least that's one that I'm fine to see being skipped lol. Yay for Rema entering the top 20 though, would like to see it eventually going top 10 but not sure if it has that much momentum left in it?

Ed back ahead of Harry in the albums chart *_* (primarily due to 'Celestial' shenanigans but still)

Is For My Hand the first single to have a 22-21-20-19-18 within a chart run?
Almost certainly, I'm not aware of any other song that's climbed 1 place for 4 weeks in a row at any positions.

Haha it's okay! The OCC have revealed album chart highlights on their website so that's all good but no harm done, better to be safe than sorry!

What has done Charlie Pith to get the top 10 ?

Streaming has been very bad all week long.

Discount albums I suppose ?

Omg at that chart run. Such a slow slow climber week by week

Biography

Lizzo is here to let it out. Body positivity, queerness, the embrace of the self in all its possibilities: For her, the freer, the better. Yes, she’s a singer. And a rapper, and—wouldn’t you know it—a pretty impressive flautist. But she’s also an emblem for the idea that social progress starts from within, that her loving herself (and you loving you) is the first step to fighting the forces that keep marginalised people—Black, female, LGBTQ and otherwise—down. “I think that there’s a wave right now in human experience where we want to feel good, and we’re seeking out the practice of self-care and self-love,” she told Apple Music in 2020. “I think my music just happened to ebb and flow with the way we’re evolving as a people and a culture.”

Born Melissa Jefferson in 1988, she grew up between Detroit and Houston, making her way through the Minneapolis indie community in her early twenties. She worked steadily through the 2010s, forging a confident, outsized blend of gospel, R&B, hip-hop and pop before breaking through with 2019’s Cuz I Love You. She could be funny (“I just took a DNA test/Turns out I’m 100% that bitch,” she raps at the beginning of “Truth Hurts”), vulnerable (“Cuz I Love You”), quirky (“Batches & Cookies”) and empowering (“Juice”). In every case, though, her music brings a muchness, a saturated sense of vibrancy and humour and soul and self-assuredness that just kinda makes you feel good. It’s hard to argue it when, upon accepting the 2019 Apple Music Award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year, she said emphatically, “I deserve it!” - Apple Music
