I half wonder if they even believe this stuff. They're clearly happy to play with people's lives either way.

Both probably and our disgusting right wing Press will cheer her to the rafters. Of course when interviewed she sidestepped the obvious "Your parents were refugees" question.

Little Facist Britain ahoy

Her parents weren't refugees; they were what the right-wing press like to call economic migrants.

The woman is pure poison.

I thought she couldn't get any worse but what she said was horrendous. I really cannot wait for the next general election. Really hoping it'll be in 2024.
She knows what she's doing, it's a future Leadership bid. Appealing to the same Think Tanks that supported Truss. It will be funny to watch her and Badenoch go for each other in 12-18 months time.

I hope it's sooner.

Badenoch is dreadful but not in same league of evil as Braverman. She was a tiniest bit pragmatic about that EU law bonfire crap and marked her cards with the raving Brexiters.

The election has to be before Jan 2025 so it’ll be next spring or autumn!

My money is on Autumn next year. Can't see any way the Tories will go for an earlier election in May at this current stage.

I absolutely loathe the wishywashy commitment to HS2 and how many allegedly progressive and green people are against it. It’s not even the bare minimum we need to be doing. The WCML is a f***ing joke and this is urgently needed for capacity and yet here we are taking about more than a decade before it reaches Birmingham. Like is that a joke?

Agreed. I can't believe the Government are not going forward, and it boggles my mind how allegedly environmental activists are against it. Reminds me a bit of Animal Rising, focusing on a single issue and not realising the wider impact of their actions. The north is so poorly connected by public transport, that everyone drives instead.

It wasn’t going to connect with Wales at all but we’re still helping to pay for it.

So Sunak refuses to agree with Braverman's shocking statement that 'Multiculturalism has failed us'.

As that's a very clear divisive statement on such an important issue, he should sack her. But of course, he won't because yet again the ultra right hold so much sway.

Thrn maybe they should do something about infrastructure in the north, instead of stopping it at Birmingham anf Manchester!

The east is pretty good. Certainly the East Coast mainline is high speed & outside of the cities up there, it's fairly rural. It's the connection between the East & Midlands or the East & West that is really poor, especially the latter and the connection between Leeds & Manchester.

Start of the Tory conference week and suspect most of the drama this week, will be about the Party trying to push pressure on to the Government to reduce taxes. I agree they are at record levels and the stealth tax increases are the ones that sting the most, but seems the in-fighting might be about to on the up again. I wonder if they're seeing an encouragement in the polls or a Leadership dash.

Isn't it strange how the term "stealth taxes" has disappeared since 2010? A failure to raise tax allowances would certainly have been described as a stealth tax if we had a Labour government, particularly one that presided over a period of double digit inflation.

I still think that there will be tax cuts in the next Budget. They will, of course, be unfunded, but that will be the point. The whole point will be to ask Starmer whether he will reverse them.

I think unfunded tax cuts proposed will freighten the markets again. Things are just about stabilsing and improving, at this point a tax cut isn't gonna be a benefit to anyone, which is why I think Sunak will resit temptations. Could see him putting it in the manifesto though for the election.

So HS2 leg to Manchester as good as scrapped - announced in, ahem, Manchester. Instead they'll focus on vague improvements to existing rail infrastructure in the North (like why isn't that already been done)

Meanwhile Liz Truss - who actually got the Tories under 20% for a while and destroyed the economy, is swanning around like she's the new PM being supported by Nigel Farage. Some are saying that if there was a Tory election tomorrow, he'd be voted as new leader.

Oh and lots and lots of transphobia.

Just another day in Tory paradise.

"Make Britain Grow Again" - gosh, if the Brexit Party and the ultra-right wing element of the Conservatives get together, things will be carnage. If that wing of the party think Liz Truss is going to be voted as Prime Minister again, I seriously think not even the 20% who always vote Conservative will be stupid enough.
