I feel bad saying this but the autistic version is worse than the original, yes I listened on Spotify out of curiosity

I don't know what it is but doing that coupled with all the other comments they have made just feels so cynical to me.

Is that unfair, I don't know, but it's doing something that will automatically make any criticism seem unfair or like you're having a pop at special needs children that kind of irritates me when coupled with the fact that the whole thing seems to have become an ego trip.

Urgh whatever, I just hope it fails to get to #1 so they will pack it in.

Yeah this version just feels like a massive guilt trip as can't say anything negative as special needs children and makes you look bad not supporting it

exploitative... thats the word i was looking for. yeah it really does and its actually kinda sad :( how consumed he is with getting the #1

Whatever you think of him you can't blame him for wanting it though. If I was about to make history by breaking a record set by the Beatles I'd probably be throwing everything at it too.

Is it embarrassing and cringeworthy and cynical and exploitative? Yes. Does he deserve it? No. Am I that bothered either way? I just don't think I am.

Obviously I'd rather he didn't make #1 but with everything he's throwing at it I can't really see past him getting it tbh.

It's more the pretence of him saying it's for charity and to help people. If they want to break the record, just say it...! Don't guilt-trip people into buying it by saying "this person won't eat tonight if you don't buy our song" or "look we have children with learning difficulties on our song now", it's the emotional blackmail that does it for me.

If they'd said from the start that they wanted to break the record and that proceeds would be going to the Trussell Trust, I'd understand (even if I'd rather they didn't make it regardless), but it's the guilt-trips and pretence that's bothering me.

Yeah that's exactly it, it feels like a guilt trip to get to #1, which is distasteful.

Honestly while I was obviously very eager for it not to get to #1 anyway, all that "if we don't get to #1 then more people could suffer" narrative in those videos has dialled my feelings against it even more. If they had come out and said "we're gonna keep campaigning and doing all we can to get it to #1 etc etc... but even if we don't quite get there the most important thing is to keep on supporting the charity because of the work they do" then they would have come across better.

I find them generally distasteful ever since I found out they donate the DIRECT money to charity but they're happy to profiteer off side merch, tv appearances and promos and all sorts of other stuff. Kinda puts a dampener on the image.

1, 2 and 5 on iTunes now - think that will be enough to keep them in the lead tbh.

On Facebook 3 hours ago the OCC said Sidemen have climbed 11 places in 48 hours and there is momentum.

You're right Julian we must keep some optimism.

STICK IT TO HIS GIGANTIC EGO, THE GULLIBLE AND THE OCC!

They are pathetic desperate DEBBIES!! Charity grifters!!!

Just listened to the record for the first time. Every single X Factor Christmas number 1 that I can remember off the top of my head was better than that. I hope Mariah or Wham pull through...

Can't we? Why does he want it? He's not even a musician. You need to have an incredible ego to think you deserve 5 number 1 singles as someone with no musical talent, never-mind 5 Christmas number 1s in a row.
