I may have to pay a visit to my local bookies and place a bet on LB to be Xmas #1

What's the point? There's no money to be made unless you're going to be putting a massive amount down.

Doesn't betting online affect your credit score? Or is that playing online casino? Or am I wrong about that?
Are we going to get a Chart of the Year at some point?

Radio 1 haven't bothered with Chart of the Year for a good few years now.

However, Joseph and I will be hosting our own version as we have done ever since R1 stopped.

This year it will be on New Year's Eve.

I really think they should do a chart of the year instead of the last chart which usually just has Christmas songs in and no one is really interested at that point.

IIRC, one of the presenters may have said they would look into doing that instead.

I quite enjoy the post-Xmas chart show as, yes it's dominated by Xmas songs, but a lot of them only go top 40 for that 1 week (see Stop The Cavalry last year) so it's their only chance of being played. And we sometimes get surprise outcomes like River being #1 a few years back.

Whereas with the charts being so slow these days a chart of the year isn't much different to most chart shows pre-December. There might be 1 or 2 songs from early in the year that you forget about but the rest is entirely predictable.

River was a stolen #1 from Mariah, thanks to the OCC and their vendetta against her, only lrtting up onc le Wham became bigger with their Easter dirge!!!

Ooh, hope Please Don't Stop The Cavalry gets to top 40 this year too!! And Good King Wencelas by that medieval band!

Well I have £5 on both Wham and Mariah at 50/1 and 33/1 respectively so I bloody hope one of them catches up to that garbage :D

From the OCC:

“Wham! and Mariah Carey begin to close the gap on LadBaby for 2022's Christmas Number 1.

According to the latest Official Charts Company data unveiled this morning, George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley's festive classic Last Christmas has narrowed the gap by more than 3,000 units overnight in the race to become the UK's Official Christmas Number 1 2022.

As it stands, a first ever Christmas Number 1 single for Wham! could feasibly be in sight if their current streaming momentum holds up. Last Christmas is now just 13,000 chart units behind LadBaby's Food Aid, having added a further 8,500 units overnight to LadBaby's 5,100. Plus with more streaming data to arrive later this week that could propel the duo even closer, it's shaping up to be an exciting festive chart battle.

Queen of Christmas Mariah Carey is also firmly in with a shot at her first Christmas Number 1 victory, currently in third place just a little over 600 units behind Wham!

This means that while LadBaby are still in the lead for a record-breaking fifth consecutive Official Christmas Number 1 right now, that might all change as the race ticks on. Could a midweek upset be on its way?

Still growing, unlikely contender Stormzy is also looking to break into the Top 5 with the tender ballad Firebabe (5), while RAYE's experimental hit Escapism. begins to claw its way back up the chart this week, up one on yesterday (6) and Central Cee's surprise new track Let It Go seeks to debut just outside the Top 10 (11).

Further down the chart, The K**ts' anarchic F*ck The Tories does drop down since yesterday's Official Chart First Look, but is still eyeing a Top 20 debut (19), while YouTube group The Sidemen shouldn't be discounted yet either, rising a further six places overnight with their viral single Christmas Drillings (28).

With four full days of tracking left until the Christmas Number 1 is decided, it's far from over yet. Keep your eyes peeled on OfficialCharts.com and our socials for more updates and exclusives this week, and remember that the most important Number 1 of the year is ultimately decided by you - so keep streaming, buying and downloading your favourite singles up until 23.59pm Thursday to make your vote count.”

If Wham! were 16k behind and keep closing by 3.4k per day they should do it, plus the missing streams and the fact that LadBaby’s downloads might tail off further will help. That’s not allowing for any extra pushes that LadBaby manage of course but at the moment it sounds like they’re out of ideas.

So LadBaby are on 32k and Wham are on 24k? Has to be in the bag for Wham
I wouldn't rule them out just yet, it looked out of reach back in 2018 till they bulldozed through later in the week.
If LB fans streamed the hell out of that song instead of just purchasing it, they’d have much higher figures

32k vs 19k

Wham were also on 19k last Monday I think

No Wham! would be about 11 + 8.5 = 19.5k right now.

I’m certainly not ruling LadBaby out, but they won’t be able to sit back and watch the sales roll in this time (pun intended).

If LB fans streamed the hell out of that song instead of just purchasing it, they’d have much higher figures

That's the thing... nobody actually wants to listen to it so streaming is pretty much out of the question

If LB fans streamed the hell out of that song instead of just purchasing it, they’d have much higher figures

Wrong - every download counts for 1 sale, you can contribute a maximum of 0.7 sales by streaming in a week.
