I've been wondering who the ultimate favourite Sugababe is and whether people's opinions have changed over time or whether they have always had the same favourites? What is your ranking has this changed?

I thought of this because my favourite member has changed for the first time this year, and so has my rankings.

I started my Sugababes journey from Freak and pretty much from the get go Mutya was my favourite, from those opening lines of her solo part to the slightly rougher qualities in her that I'd not really seen in a pop group before made her so unique for me. It only got stronger the more I heard her sing and her IDGAF attitude was always amazing to me. I was gutted when she left but delighted she did a solo album... which was ok but not what she really should have delivered! She sounds sublime though.

FIRST

1. Mutya

2. Keisha

3. Heidi

4. Siobhan (I didn't know who she was at first had honestly never heard Overload but discovered that and the album in Three era, she was the least fave by default).

When Amelle joined I thought she was actually a pretty good replacement. Her voice (although not as rich as Mutya) was good and she had a bit of sass about her I liked, she became my second favourite member at the time

SECOND

1. Mutya

2. Amelle

3. Keisha

4. Heidi

5. Siobhan

When Keisha left (was forced out) I'd given up on the group tbh I didn't download or buy any more of their records after that. For me while they were still Sugababes I just wasn't interested anymore and it actually pushed Keisha back up my rankings. Jade has always been my least fave partly because I have no real association of her with the group.

THIRD

1. Mutya

2. Keisha

3. Amelle

4. Heidi

5. Siobhan

6. Jade

Since coming back this last year it is Keisha who has shined the most for me. From her interviews to the Youtube videos before about her experiences as the black member of Sugababes, to her voice (really appreciate how much her voice is used throughout now) and also her stage presence... she just had IT for me when I saw the tour something above the other two (possibly more experience?). I've also looked back and appreciated so much more her role in the past formations of the band and how she really held it together in many ways. Amelle has gone down quite a bit and Heidi risen mainly due to the Angels - Taller eras being my definitive Sugababes moments and Siobhan has risen partly due to really appreciating her voice and this new album which is excellent.

NOW

1. Keisha

2. Mutya

3. Heidi

4. Siobhan

5. Amelle

6. Jade

From my very first days as a Sugababes stan until my last, Mutya is the alter at which i worship. Her voice is just incredible, she is an iconic warm presence and I love her to bits.

It was very special getting to meet 1.0 this year, they are all extremely lovely and just good souls. They are by far my favourite line up now, by a light year over 2.0. The material is just so good and there is just something so natural about the three of them together on stage. It is special and magical. They were destined to sing together.

I think overtime, Keisha and Siobhan have moved the most through my ranking. Keisha being sacked I think was when I finally appreciated that she was the glue that held the band together. I also adore her youtube channel so much

So my current ranking is: Mutya > Keisha/Siobhan >>>>>>>>>>>>> Amelle >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Heidi

Anyone with this in their discography is the easy choice for me.

As an artist, it has to be Siobhan — it's a little heartbreaking to look back at her career and think of all the missed opportunities. She's a casualty of the industry and of the time. 'Ghosts' would reach such a wider and different audience now and it's not difficult to imagine her being celebrated with all the other recent successful alt-pop girls.

Mutya and Heidi.

I really like all of the girls tbh! Siobhan grew on me immensely after meeting her, super sweet! Absolutely love Keisha too, she was lovely.

I've always loved Mutya the most, her voice and just loved her humour. Also, when I met her she went out of her way (along with Keisha) to make me feel comfortable and give me lots of compliments.

I've always had a soft spot for Heidi, she always came across so warm and nice, plus I grew up with 2.0 so I will always have a bigger soft spot for Mutya, Heidi and Keisha.

Mutya

Heidi

Keisha

Siobhan

Amelle

Jade

It feels wrong to rank any of the original three because I love them all so much for different reasons. Growing up though, Keisha was my favourite so I’d have to say she’s still #1.

1. Keisha

2. Mutya

3. Siobhan

4. Heidi

5. Jade

6. Amelle

No offence to anyone but I just can’t stand Amelle.

I think Keisha would have to be my favourite now. She has an insane voice (all of them do to be fair) but she's the thread that held the group together, and as soon as she was no longer there, Sugababes just couldn't really go on. Is it really a Sugababes song without some incredible adlibs from Keisha? *.* As a person she seems totally down to earth as well, and I appreciate that she doesn't hold any bitterness towards Heidi or Amelle (at least, not publicly). A class act and immensely talented!

I find it hard to do a rank as I appreciate them all really. Mutya's tone is unmatched and Siobhan's influence over The Lost Tapes in particular is so strong. Her solo albums are phenomenal too, especially Ghosts. The original trio have a certain chemistry that you just can't manufacture, and it's what makes The Lost Tapes so good (and One Touch as well but especially now where their voices just fit together like gloves). I can't discredit Heidi or Amelle though, they both have great voices (okay Heidi's the least good singer of the six by quite a way but she's the queen of the middle 8) and Heidi in particular was a part of the group for their golden era commercially. I love Amelle's voice and I have a lot of nostalgia for the 3.0 days even if they were veering away from what the Sugababes were musically.

Jade has a great voice but it's hard to see her as a Sugababe, she didn't get the chance to put her own stamp on Sweet 7, and Freedom wasn't all that, but I think the group was on its last legs when Keisha was ousted so it was a tough time for any new person to join. Sweet 7 is a great album, albeit the least essential Sugababes album by some way, but if I don't compare it to everything that came before (and now after!!) I can enjoy the basic bops for what they are.

See this for me is Siobhan not Sugababes. She is easily by a mile the best soloist. It's like in Spice Girls Posh is my favourite but as solo acts Melanie C is head and shoulders above them all (and Victoria is at the bottom).

6. Obviously Jade's time in the group was very fleeting. Like others have said, it is hard to truly see her as a Sugababe. With only a couple of years in the group and ultimately not much to show for it when all was said and done, it does go against her. Sweet 7 was finished as a 3.0 album and it was inevitable that she came across as being a bit copy/pasted. After that, only one single that we can really say had her stamp on it - 'Freedom', which was only ok for me. I don't think she really got the opportunity to showcase what she could potentially bring to Sugababes. If they'd got as far as releasing a new album in the 4.0 lineup then maybe she would have proved herself and shook off the "new replacement" tag that both Amelle and Heidi before her had managed to. I guess a part of the reason why it's difficult to see Jade as a Sugababe is because she went into the group as being a recently established name in her own right, which really amplified her seeming like a stand in member. I really hold nothing against her whatsoever. She's very talented and I believe she contributed as well as she could to a girl group that was clearly crumbling at its foundations - their identity crisis was already showing itself in the latter days of 3.0 (I think we can blame the management for this), so that was nothing to do with Jade.

5. Amelle - I feel like she is the member that kind of ushered in the era of Sugababes as being tabloid fixtures, with a lot of attention being specifically on her. I think her inclusion really changed the way the Sugababes as a group were perceived - just as much celebrities as they were talented singers and performers... whereas I think in earlier line ups the celebrity element took more of a back seat. Amelle certainly made a name for herself in her years in the group! I think she had quite an infectious personality and despite Mutya being big shoes to fill, Amelle did establish herself as an important Sugababe. She definitely felt very established by the time they released About You Now and their first 3.0 album. Honestly I'd say from 2007 through to 2011 I considered her to be my favourite member! I think she had a great husky voice, it's a recognisable voice, and there's a great many incredible 3.0 songs. With the passing of time she's slipped down for me, but I still place value her time in the group.

4. Siobhan - The past decade has been a struggle of perseverance for the Sugababes and I kind of feel for Siobhan the most in this situation. 10 years since they reformed and I feel like it's only really this year where she's finally beginning to get her flowers, so to speak. 'The Lost Tapes' has been a revelation to me when it comes to her role and importance in the group: she's a truly fantastic songwriter and her vocals are to die for. I can't wait to see things going from strength to strength. Sugababes with Siobhan playing the O2 will surely be a solidifying moment. I keep everything crossed that they'll get into a position to be able to release another album together.

3. Heidi - Still, I can't help but still place Heidi above Siobhan in my affections for the time being. I can't overlook that Heidi was there from albums 2 to 7, for so many successful and memorable years, amazing singles/videos/albums/tours... she was there when I stanned them as a teenager. She will always be the Queen of the middle 8s! You know, I do think it's annoying to see numerous comments across Sugababes' socials that people want Heidi back, because that's disrespectful to Siobhan. The thing is, those comments don't make me annoyed at Heidi though - it's really not her fault. She's clearly moved on, and those who yearn for her to come back... well, it's not happening so...!

2. Keisha - Keisha will always feel like the glue that holds Sugababes together for me. In a way she is the Sugababe. Talented beyond words, so earnest and it always seems to me that she's the Sugababes' biggest cheerleader. What a woman! I couldn't praise her enough, but...

1. ...I could equally same about Mutya, and ultimately she is my favourite member! A huge reason is her voice, of course. It's just sensational... always has been, always will be! She's in a class of her own and she really deserves to be recognised as one of the best ever vocalists to come out of the UK (sadly don't think the public give her that credit). But those who know, know. Mutya comes across so real (girl x) in interviews, very warm, funny and just a great person. She's completely essential to the Sugababes. As are Keisha and Siobhan. Here's to 2023!

Always gonna be Heidi for me

He keeps making moves on my husband Lee so yeah I think so too... :arrr:

I'm a rarity, I love all six in different ways.

6 has to be Jade. Not because of anything that she did, not because she isn't an absolutely fantastic singer (I actually prefer her vocals on Sweet 7 over Keisha's) but she never got the chance to be a Sugababe. That whole period was such a mess. Started out with Amelle going off grid, Heidi was a wreck and just looked broken. The album didn't do well, they disappeared for 18 months and then it was over when Freedom got given away for free.

5 is Amelle. She had to replace Mutya, come on now! She doesn't sing the songs that came before her as well as Mutya did, but nobody could and I think she contributed so much. Red Dress is better with Amelle, About You Now is all Amelle, the sing off between her and Keisha in No Can Do. I'd say her arrival exacerbated the media rather than being the start of it because it was always there. I also bloody love that infectious cackle.

4 is Siobhan. Let me preface this by saying I love Siobhan because I know 1.0 is the favoured line-up here (and I do love her :D, I'm not just saying it for that reason. I still listen to her solo stuff all the time, and the harmonies between her, Mutya and Keisha are just beautiful. However, I don't really love her voice when she's singing Sugababes songs. I personally think that her ability to produce the amazing harmonies means people give a pass to not great solo vocals. People act like there is a huge gulf between her vocal ability and Heidi's and honestly, I just don't hear it myself. Obviously there is the stand out moments (Stronger middleeeeeeee-eeeeeee-eeeeeeeee-eeeeeeeee eight). I feel this is the most controversial thing I'll possibly ever write and probably not the easiest place to get agreement but I'll stand by it none the less.

3 is Keisha. I bloody love Keisha Buchanan. I'm so proud as a fan to have watched her grow over the last 20 years, both in personality and vocals. She got treated badly at the end, in my opinion more by Island and Crown than Heidi and Amelle, but the honest thing to say is I don't believe the revisionist history about 1.0 that now comes from the girls. It is clear there was obvious disdain between Siobhan and Keisha for years. Now I'm so glad they've put that behind them, moved on and become friends because it's led to an amazing album (10 years in the waiting :D) and an amazing tour. I don't think that it gets mentioned enough just how strong Keisha's vocals are now. Her adlibs on Stronger this year are just incredible. I'm happy for her more than any of the girls that she got to come back to this group and whenever it ends, hopefully gets to end it on her own terms. She deserved much better than she got.

2 is Heidi. I swear this isn't just because she's a fellow scouser. The Sugababes for me is MKH. Paraphrasing Keisha in the Overloaded documentary, for me Sugababes became the Sugababes when Heidi joined. One Touch is a great album, but it's not the one that makes me want to go back every day. She was there for so much, she worked so hard. I read people get annoyed seeing Heidi fans wishing she could go back and I'm one of the people who, if it was right for her and right for them, I would love to see. I don't want a line-up change, I want the four of them for a night, a show (preferably one I'm at). I'm glad to see Keisha and Mutya soften their stance, and be a little more respectful of the work she put in alongside them for years than they once were. She doesn't have an amazingly strong voice, but she has a great tone to it. On a personality level, she is my #1.

1 is Mutya. The fact that Mutya didn't find solo success after Real Girl absolutely astounds me. One of the most underrated singers in the country. I used to feel the same way about Lee Ryan from Blue, except Mutya can still sing. That rich voice, the harmonies she can produce, the huskiness. Imagine how much different the history of the Sugababes could have been had she not felt pressured to come back in 2005. A superstar that never was.

Interesting that there are two votes for Jade but not one person has mentioned her in a place above 6th (or even at all in Silas' case lol)
