January 9, 20233 yr It will certainly be a non No.1, I don’t really see the point. It’s just an exercise in how far one can mobilise a fanbase, but doesn’t reflect the popularity of the song in any way so I don’t see why any high profile a-list artist would even want a No.1 achieved using these methods for a song that clearly isn’t connecting in the way they would have hoped. I get it with LadBaby as it raises their profile each year but this won’t change Lewis’ career in any way, apart from having a dubious chart topper to his name. What’s the point?

I'm guessing so the label can market the album as having two #1 singles? But I'm not too sure if that would have much of an impact anyway? I can't really think of any other reason unless Lewis himself wants it.
January 9, 20233 yr Although honestly I’m a little jealous, I wish my faves were as responsive to these kinds of things as Lewis and Ed :puke2: Honestly you’d think those two could accept an occasional flop
January 9, 20233 yr Oh with nearly 7k downloads as well (up from whatever much lower number it was doing last week at #5 on the download chart) Lewis is not too far off the fabled 30k pure sales boost and he can probably squeeze a decent number more downloads if he needs them. Looks like he does have a decent chance of staying #1 then. Must be very rare for a 'normal' song by a contemporary artist to have more downloads than stream equivalents now! (Might not hold by the end of the week though). I wonder why he didn't just have the CDs count in time for the First Look chart. But yes, a big question mark over whether he'll even be able to stay in the top 10 after that. The song already has a pretty weird looking chart run thanks to Christmas songs distorting it (20-43-40-60-15-...), maybe finally coming for a bit more stability 3 weeks from now... Capaldi antics aside, P!nk actually higher than she was this time last week and there won't be a ton of resets to push her down at the end of the week again so this might finally be the week for her? Also Sub Focus potentially coming for his first top 40 hit in a little over 9 years! Yay at JVKE, Stephen Sanchez and Lil Uzi Vert on the rise too ~ And nice to see FLO's 'Cardboard Box' showing up at #71 so hopefully should be safe for their first top 100 appearance (they're holding up well on Apple Music which seems to be their main source of streams so don't think it should drop much if at all).
January 9, 20233 yr I imagine most young artists release a song to get to #1 whether they want to admit it or not. Can you blame them? No. I think I would do the same thing. Even if it’s #1 for one week, it’s in the record books and nothing can change that. Even the most successful artists usually are credited for how many number 1s they’ve had. The charts might not be as important these days but I respect Lewis for wanting to reach milestones. It’s not my favourite song but I admire him putting in the effort and I think people slating him are just jealous to be honest.
January 9, 20233 yr If he gets #1 he can say he has 2 of them since his comeback nobody outside here will know or care how he got it.
January 9, 20233 yr …but equally I’m not sure anyone outside of here cares whether he has 1 or 2 number ones… I think the most likely Lewis just wants the position and fair enough I guess.
January 9, 20233 yr Lewis is currently live on TikTok pushing for more downloads  All I’ve heard so far is “I’m FAT. Come and f****** fat shame me cause I need it I’ll be sweating my tits off hauling my fat ass around the stage next week”. And now he’s playing that unreleased song people like more than pointless. January 9, 20233 yr Lewis is currently live on TikTok pushing for more downloads  He also needs to push on the streaming. I want Lewis to go #1 because if he does, he will have done it due to pure sales and not due to streaming

Yup, they're no.1 on Today's Hits and streams from that playlist is probably gonna get them in the top 100. Crazy (a bop though!) Wow @ Lewis' physical sales, and i'm sure he'll add more downloads during the week. Also, my CDs haven't shipped yet so there might be another bunch yet to go?
January 9, 20233 yr This is RAYE’s first number one. Lewis already has three. Let her have multiple weeks at the top spot. Edited January 9, 20233 yr by daniellovesmusic
January 9, 20233 yr I reckon it'll be 15-01-09 or something - but yeah we used to get worse with McFly/Westlife and I'm sure some other fanbase acts back in the day too. It's just not something we're used to now. It'll be interesting if Miley could somehow get #1 the following week, I'd low key love it as I miss the quick turnover of #1's but I doubt it. I do think Miley will be big though, its just a question of how big. Rooting for Miley!

I suppose only people like us who follow it this closely know how he's achieved it, to most other people he's probably got another #1 he can boast about and they'll be none the wiser.
January 9, 20233 yr Lewis’s lead looks big enough to hold on. The next few days will be interesting to see if Raye can close the gap by much.
January 9, 20233 yr Try again for Pink to hold top 40. Shouldn't be having any obstacles in her way this time unless it dips on Apple through the week.
January 9, 20233 yr He also needs to push on the streaming. I want Lewis to go #1 because if he does, he will have done it due to pure sales and not due to streaming So you want him to push streaming, but don't want to say he's gotten there due to it? Flawless logic as ever
January 9, 20233 yr Although honestly I’m a little jealous, I wish my faves were as responsive to these kinds of things as Lewis and Ed :puke2: Honestly you’d think those two could accept an occasional flop I see it that they don't believe in these songs beyond the UK charts so they might as well use a lot of money and time to make it chart as high as possible in the one country that matters the most to them and the label? I believe Ed has never really tried to sell cds in the US for instance. Lewis' recent singles have flopped everywhere except in the UK (and Ireland to some extent) so they might as well milk they can in the UK. I mean imagine Ed trying to sell cd singles of Celestial to the US public  Edited January 9, 20233 yr by Sour Candy
January 9, 20233 yr I'm thinking it'll be really close but Raye will be victorious in the end, with all the cds gone (for now) and downloads falling, i can see her doing it.
