Posted January 28, 20232 yr Voting has now closed so let's get on with the results! Thanks to those of you who voted (and one of me). Firstly let's get out of the way all of the tracks no one cares for. And yes, even with the very low number of eligible songs this year, we do still have some nil-pointers. #35. Lil Tjay - In My Head UK chart run: {18}-28-35-48-57-70->6 Points: ±00 | Positive votes: 00 | Negative votes: 00 Who remembers the #1 hit from 2010 "Replay" by Iyaz? A good number of you I imagine. Now who remembers Lil Tjay mangling it early last year? Anyone? Anyone? Yeah as I thought. #35. Liilz feat. ZieZie - Glad U Came UK chart run: 65-35-17-{15}-19-21-27-34-46->9 Points: ±00 | Positive votes: 00 | Negative votes: 00 Who remembers the #1 hit from 2011 "Glad You Came" by The Wanted? A good number of you I imagine. Now who remembers Liilz mangling it early last year? Anyone? Anyone? Oh yeah all of us who put it top five in the Hate Chart. No defenders for this then clearly. #35. Central Cee - One Up UK chart run: {17}-30-36-40-45-60->6 Points: ±00 | Positive votes: 00 | Negative votes: 00 Another year, another minor Central Cee top 20 hit that no-one cared for. #34. Jack Harlow feat. Drake - Churchill Downs UK chart run: {19}-30-41-61-52-56-69->7 Points: +04 | Positive votes: 01 | Negative votes: 00 Almost a nul-pointer but saved at the very end, but alas this Jack Harlow album track was forgotten by the vast majority here, having made the top 20 thanks to a Drake feature. #33. D-Block Europe & Ghost Killer Track - Elegant & Gang UK chart run: {18}-25-29-31-31-36-38-43-51->9 Points: +07 | Positive votes: 01 | Negative votes: 00 It wouldn't be a Buzzjack's favourite non-top 10 rate without a DBE song in the bottom five would it? One of their two efforts from this year however did manage at least one set of points - the other was a fair bit more liked. #32. K-Trap - Warm UK chart run: 49-34-42-40-47-18-{17}-21-27->9 Points: +09 | Positive votes: 02 | Negative votes: 00 One of the year's few drill hits now which made the top 20 thanks to a Skepta remix, becoming the third top 20 hit for K-Trap - like the other two this wasn't rated very highly by Buzzjack of course. #31. A1 x J1 & Tion Wayne - Night Away (Dance) UK chart run: {11}-12-14-13-15-15-16-19-22-57-67-68->12 Points: +10 | Positive votes: 03 | Negative votes: 01 Another rap hit with a heavy sample use as these continue to be an easy way to a big hit, though this couldn't quite reach the top 10 it had a fairly good top 20 run much to Buzzjack's disappointment. Its one set of negative votes does nothing to change its position here.
January 28, 20232 yr Author #30. Post Malone feat. Roddy Ricch - Cooped Up UK chart run: 25-25-26-{18}-26-37-46-50-59->9 Points: +14 | Positive votes: 02 | Negative votes: 00 Post Malone didn't have a great album cycle this time around only managing three minor top 20 hits here - two of these in 2022 and the first finishes very poorly here having only managed two votes. #29. Russ Millions, Buni & YV - Reggae & Calypso UK chart run: 32-43-46-{12}-16-18-17-20-18-21-24-24-29-33-34->15 Points: +15 | Positive votes: 06 | Negative votes: 02 Russ Millions took a while to actually get one of his 'Body' follow-up singles to be a top 40 hit however this eventually happened with this track which of course isn't stylistically reggae nor calypso. It got a fair bit of disdain in the chart threads having been a fairly sizeable hit though it did manage more than a couple putting it at the bottom end of their votes. #28. ArrDee - Come & Go UK chart run: {16}-19-22-29-34-41-45-53-62->9 Points: +17 | Positive votes: 03 | Negative votes: 00 It feels like ArrDee's 15 minutes may have already come to an end but early on in the year he had a sizeable hit album and got this into the top 20, it remains his most recent top 20 entry as his Kyla sampling track surprised by only scraping the top 40. #27. Potter Payper feat. Tiggs Da Author - Gangsteritus UK chart run: 56-23-25-31-40-{12}-20-22-32->9 Points: +18 | Positive votes: 02 | Negative votes: 00 Another rap hit that got a random popularity spike and then a further one following a remix to put it in the top 20. It remains the sole top 40 hit for Potter Payper so far. #26. D-Block Europe feat. AJ Tracey - Make You Smile UK chart run: 42-25-35-46-{15}-16-21-22-19-53-45-19-20-23-60-68->16 Points: +23 | Positive votes: 06 | Negative votes: 00 A rare DBE track that actually had a few supporters here, assisted by an AJ Tracey feature and a more pop friendly hook - it had the same number of supporters that 'Ferrari Horses' had last year actually (that finished 34th/57). In the next section we'll finally get around to some NON-RAP, which of Buzzjack's most hated singer-songwriter ballads will finish lower though?
January 28, 20232 yr Lol all one genre in this section although the overall list hip hop heavy. 'Elegant and Gang' was never played on the charts despite being in the top 40 for 7 weeks being one of D Block's biggest recently. Just checked it out now - was it purely the word 'gang' in the title or the lyrics about partner assault that did it? Anyway no loss for any of those.
January 28, 20232 yr 'Reggae and Calypso' was a bop. Bit different too other chart stuff. I would have given it a few more votes in retrospect. 'Come and Go' was OK. Think it was a bit rush released due to 'War' being dropped from playlists suddenly for obvious reasons. 'Make You Smile' deserved higher. Although guess the artist behind it still would make people skip it.
January 28, 20232 yr the only ones from this section i kinda liked were A1 x J1 and DBE/AJ! Both above standard efforts for the artists and rare gems in their otherwise quite rubbish discography (especially DBE). shame theyre gone already as i quite like them but not too upset as theres better ones still to come
January 28, 20232 yr Come & Go is actually a fantastic track, so far above anything else's he ever put out. Far more obscure sample usage too which is a bonus. I'd forgotten all about Warm, thought that would blossom into a big top 10 single but it just fizzled out.
January 28, 20232 yr Come & Go is actually a fantastic track, so far above anything else's he ever put out. Far more obscure sample usage too which is a bonus.I agree, Come & Go is the only one I considered voting for so far.
January 29, 20232 yr Lost 2 of my votes so far but they were just my 1 and 2 pointers - a little surprised there were as many as 5 other people who voted for 'Reggae & Calypso', I thought it was slightly jarring on first listen but it grew on me a lot. And 'Make You Smile' as I've said many times is DBE's best song and really their only song I would ever want to voluntarily listen to, well done to it finishing as 'high' as 26th x There are a bunch more here that I do like (I thought this was a decent batch of songs for the most part), 'Come & Go' and 'Gangsteritus' were among the last few songs I cut and I also like 'Cooped Up', 'Churchill Downs' and 'Warm' (the remix with Skepta being my preferred version). Big shock as ever that basically all of the rap songs are out first etc. x A1 X J1 are cringe in general and 'Night Away (Dance)' is their worst release so far, the sample kicking in on that was an instant facepalm moment. Same applies to Liilz, surprised no one -2ed that one. 'Elegant & Gang', 'One Up' and 'In My Head' are all alright ('One Up' is certainly a lot better than Cench's recent big hits although still nowhere near his best).
January 29, 20232 yr 35-26 all rap, so disappointed. Loved warm & Gangsteritus for their cold edge. Make You Smile is good, Night Away & Glad U Came should've probs came last. No way Tjay should've been last. Edited January 29, 20232 yr by Y'all Starlight
January 29, 20232 yr Author #25. Cian Ducrot - All For You UK chart run: 53-50-55-49-53-59-72-70-45R(6)-44-50-54-29-30-29-31-28-31-29-23-{19}-24-26-26-23-19-25-35-54-35R(4)-39-46->32 Points: +24 | Positive votes: 07 | Negative votes: 02 My least favourite track on the list this year - and indeed it is the worst performing pop song on the list. Another Lewis Capaldi is clearly what the UK asked for though as this became a real slow-burning hit eventually nabbing two weeks in the top 20. He will also be appearing in the 2023 edition of this rate already with I'll Be Waiting, thankfully a better song than this, unless that unexpectedly rises into the top 10. #24. Lauren Spencer-Smith - Flowers UK chart run: 18-{17}-19-18-21-22-23-25-32-35-34-33-42-54->14 Points: +25 | Positive votes: 06 | Negative votes: 03 Another ballad that I dislike here, this managed to be a reasonable-sized hit off the back of her TikTok boosted debut top five hit. She hasn't managed to reach the top 40 since and the song has already been demoted to 'fourth-most popular song titled Flowers released in the 2020s'. #23. Burna Boy feat. Ed Sheeran - For My Hand UK chart run: 30-35-32-34-30-25-25-24-24-22-21-20-19-{18}-20-24-27-26-65->19 Points: +27 | Positive votes: 07 | Negative votes: 01 Ed Sheeran really got around this year as ever but this is his sole entry of the year, featuring for afrobeats singer Burna Boy. It served as the follow-up to the bigger and better 'Last Last' and managed to prove itself as a slow-burning hit. #22. Stormzy - Mel Made Me Do It UK chart run: {12}-22-32-46-65->5 Points: +33 | Positive votes: 06 | Negative votes: 00 Serving as the comeback single for Stormzy albeit as just a throwaway single to tease his return which was probably why it couldn't quite reach the top 10. Regardless it was one of the better-regarded rap songs on the list. #21. Hazey - Packs and Potions UK chart run: 26-18-15-{11}-13-17-21-25-30->9 Points: +40 | Positive votes: 07 | Negative votes: 00 A TikTok fuelled UK rap hit again giving the young rapper his first and so far only hit, and with the follow-up having not received much attention it's likely to remain so.
January 29, 20232 yr Author #20. Benzz - Je M'appelle UK chart run: 59-48-34-26-24-22-22-{17}-23-23-23-50-60-66->14 Points: +40 | Positive votes: 11 | Negative votes: 02 And as it happens, the two TikTok UK rap hits from no-names both land with the same number of points. This one was a fair bit bigger on a global level but only managed a single top 20 week here. The song of course heavily sampled Calabria. #19. Post Malone feat. Doja Cat - I Like You (A Happier Song) UK chart run: {19}-23-32-33-32-28-33-29-30-34-31-32->12 Points: +40 | Positive votes: 12 | Negative votes: 03 A rather big US hit, though only a fairly middling one in the UK, and for me it didn't even deserve that as it was quite a disappointment from Post Malone (as was all of his recent singles). I suppose the Doja Cat feature helped it gain some points here anyhow. #18. The K***s - Prince Andrew Is A Sweaty N***e UK chart run: {20}->1 Points: +42 | Positive votes: 11 | Negative votes: 02 Released in protest of the Platinum Jubilee and targeting Prince Andrew in particular the band managed just about to keep a run of top 20 hits - their Christmas effort put them back in the top 10. Quite impressed this managed a top 20 position in this countdown too really *_* #17. Bru-C - No Excuses UK chart run: 69-62-50-47-43-43-45-40-28-21-17-20-20-18-{14}-18-20-17-18-18-51-69-67->23 Points: +63 | Positive votes: 10 | Negative votes: 01 The second-best regarded rap hit on the list this year, perhaps helped by Bru-C's choice to use a DnB beat as he often does, and the fun vibe the lyrics are going for. It became his first and so far only major hit although he'd already had a couple of his 'non-hits' get significant streaming numbers. #16. Sigala feat. Talia Mar - Stay the Night UK chart run: 61-62-56-40-28-25-25-17-15-14-15-{11}-13-15-16-43-51-56-70->19 Points: +69 | Positive votes: 18 | Negative votes: 01 By number of votes this would be comfortably top 10, however many of these were 1s and 2s. Sigala had been struggling a little with two singles missing the top 20 however this managed to get him back to form, albeit briefly as none of his follow-ups have reached the top 40. It was to be fair one of the better of his recent work and got a fair score from me.
January 29, 20232 yr Author #15. SZA - Shirt UK chart run: {17}-21-22-29-48-69-36-48-25R(2)-27-33->11 Points: +70 | Positive votes: 14 | Negative votes: 00 SZA's name power seems to have improved a lot this year, with her now having a solo top 3 hit for the first time. This didn't do badly for itself either reaching the top 20 instantly from TikTok hype and bouncing back into the top 40 from the album release. #14. Imagine Dragons feat. JID - Enemy UK chart run: 66-40-34-40-37-46-53-18-18-20-21-18-{17}-51-54-56-69-66-64-67-66-68-73->23 Points: +74 | Positive votes: 12 | Negative votes: 00 Getting their first top 20 hit in almost five years with a little help from it serving as the theme to a popular Netflix show, it couldn't quite manage to be their long awaited first top 10 though. It also gave the rapper JID his first hit. #13. Calvin Harris feat. Dua Lipa & Young Thug - Potion UK chart run: {16}-20-19-24-26-26-24-23-34-36-68->11 Points: +74 | Positive votes: 16 | Negative votes: 00 Serving as the lead off to the long awaited sequel album to Funk Wav Bounces, it however had a somewhat smaller chart performance than many expected from the reuniting of Calvin & Dua and most agreed that it was not half as good as One Kiss. It also had a mildly controversial feature from Young Thug. Calvin eventually did manage a top 10 from the album in Stay With Me. #12. Kendrick Lamar - United In Grief UK chart run: {14}->1 Points: +75 | Positive votes: 09 | Negative votes: 00 The long awaited Kendrick Lamar album arrived with two top 10 hits whilst this track that led the album managed to briefly appear in the top 20. Thanks to a handful of big fans of his this manages to serve as the biggest rap hit in the list this year. #11. Dean Martin - Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! UK chart run: 70-69R(52)-74-54R(315)-75R(51)-39-54R(49)-43-47-39-37-62R(48)-45-41-36-27-61R(48)-33-29-28-{20}->21 Points: +78 | Positive votes: 16 | Negative votes: 01 A Christmas classic that has charted consistently for the last few years, and thanks to it being helped considerably by Spotify playlisting its chart stock has risen a fair bit year-on-year finally reaching a top 20 position. Not one of my absolute favourites at Christmas time but it is a rather great song regardless and gets a deserved position here. +++ The top 10: Beyoncé - Alien Superstar Dermot Kennedy - Kiss Me George Ezra - Anyone for You Joel Corry & Becky Hill - History Joji - Glimpse of Us Justin Bieber - Ghost Liam Gallagher - Everything's Electric Lizzo - 2 Be Loved (Am I Ready) Tate McRae - She's All I Wanna Be Tiësto & Ava Max - The Motto Recap: 35 00 Lil Tjay - In My Head 35 00 Liilz feat. January 29, 20232 yr Yes for King Kenny near top 10 and Queen SZA top 15, would've been even happier if MMMDI surpassed Packs & Potions though. I guess Tiesto & Ava are going for it but i'd love to see Joji at least top 5
January 29, 20232 yr Potion was second in line for my -2. How two such well regarded artists could combine to produce something quite so forgettable shocked me 😅
January 29, 20232 yr Cian Ducrot's Capaldi reject snoozefest and Lauren Spencer Smith's PSA finishing ahead of nearly all of the rap songs, nice one BuzzJack :kink: Lost 5 more of my votes now so I only share 3 of my top 10 with the overall top 10. 'Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!' obviously a classic, I actually kept having it stuck in my head for weeks after Christmas  Happy to see Kendrick rightfully finishing as the highest rap song and only just short of the top 10 considering it's not exactly one of his most accessible songs, and easy to have missed entirely as it only briefly charted and just by default from being track 1 on the album. I'm surprised 'Shirt' isn't more popular on here tbh, one of my favourites from SZA although it did take a few listens to click properly tbf. Benzz and HAZEY finishing tied seems about right, both fun novelty-ish rap hits although the Benzz one has aged better for me - I did think HAZEY had a decent chance of becoming the next Aitch/ArrDee and getting a string of hits but safe to say that's probably not happening now. 'Mel Made Me Do It' was a great comeback statement from Stormzy although I feel like its impact is muted by his complete failure to capitalise on it with anything interesting  (as much as I do quite like 'Hide & Seek', 'This Is What I Mean' the song was pretty good too, still need to hear the rest of the album which I plan to do eventually but I don't exactly expect great things lol) 'Potion' is my next fave of this batch, I think a lot of the rest of Calvin's album was well deserving of its muted reception but I did like the singles, if not exactly his best work. Bru-C and Post Malone are also pretty good. 'Enemy' is good solely for the J.I.D verse, the rest of the song is mid at best. 'Stay The Night' decent by Sigala standards. 'For My Hand' a bit of a snooze. The Kunts are icons and lmao at them being this high although this song didn't quite hit the same as their Christmas ones x Hoping Joji will be at least top 5, I noticed him getting quite a few high scores while skimming the thread.
January 29, 20232 yr 'United In Grief' was my favourite of the lot (the only song to make the top 5 in my chart), glad it got track 1 impact on the album both in terms of its chart potential and artistically, as it allows the album to start off with a bang  12th not too bad for a fleeting album track.
January 29, 20232 yr Author #10. Dermot Kennedy - Kiss Me UK chart run: 49-61-50-46-53-39-33-34-28-25-21-{15}-21-47-51-20R(3)-25-29->18 Points: +86 | Positive votes: 13 | Negative votes: 00 XhL1KC7l7Xw Starting off the top 10 we have the better of the two Irish singersongwriters in Dermot Kennedy - the song became his 5th top 20 hit and led into a second #1 album. #09. Joel Corry & Becky Hill - History UK chart run: 20-{18}-19-19-19-20-23-24-30->9 Points: +89 | Positive votes: 18 | Negative votes: 02 V-QPtMs28U8 Becoming the 8th top 20 hit for Joel Corry, 'History' was helped by a Becky Hill vocal - the collaboration had been long rumoured so its entry position wasn't very surprising however it could only linger around that spot for a month. We'll be hearing from Joel Corry again for the 2023 edition too. #08. Liam Gallagher - Everything's Electric UK chart run: {18}-39-57-67-73R(13)->5 Points: +95 | Positive votes: 14 | Negative votes: 00 jlYmW_sgEMo Former Oasis frontman Liam G was back again and helped by a well timed Brits performance this managed to nab a week in the top 20, with the parent album inevitably making #1 not long afterwards. It was his first solo top 20 hit since the band split. #07. Justin Bieber - Ghost UK chart run: 62-47-41-39-35-32-29-37-46-45-52-64-21-27-25-25-21-{19}-21-56-57-72-62-60-59-65-70-65-72->29 Points: +103 | Positive votes: 17 | Negative votes: 01 Fp8msa5uYsc A very slow burning hit from Justin Bieber, not usually like him to have one of those but this clearly had something to it to break the modern post-album single curse - the song also featured in last year's Non-top 20 hit ranking, as it looked like it had already peaked at #21, albeit it did finish there not as high so it must have grown on a few of you in the year. #06. George Ezra - Anyone for You UK chart run: 32-30-26-25-16-13-14-{12}-14-13-14-13-15-18-20-54-56-64-64-22-29-36-39->23 Points: +116 | Positive votes: 19 | Negative votes: 00 RkfvelOJvhI Serving as the comeback single for George Ezra, Buzzjack largely agreed that it was his best song of the two hits he had in the year however it was the one that couldn't quite manage a top 10 position although 11 weeks in the top 20 is not bad at all. It assisted George to having another #1 album as well.
January 29, 20232 yr The Motto to win. I didn't spend weeks bemoaning it not making the top 10 for nothing.
