January 29, 20232 yr Like all the Top 5 - would like Glimpse Of Us to win but know it divides the crowd.
January 29, 20232 yr I quite like 'Anyone For You' and 'Everything's Electric' from that batch. Like Dot I'm also rooting for 'The Motto' to win but would be satisfied with Beyoncé or Joji too.
January 29, 20232 yr Everything I voted for is top 15 so I'm happy with that, and 4 of them made the top 5 (bit surprised to see the other one there but it's also decent). Shame for George to miss out but nice to see his comeback song was well received anyway.
January 29, 20232 yr Hoping it's a win for Joji or Tate McRae, would be fine with Tiesto & Ava Max taking it too.
January 29, 20232 yr And I still have 3 of my votes left, including 2 of my top 3! Liam Gallagher was also very close to my votes though and I like the Bieber and Ezra ones too (certainly much more than certain other songs from their respective albums x). 'Kiss Me' is one of Dermot's best songs too. Joel is way too high. Pleased enough at Joji being anywhere in the top 5 but now fingers crossed for top 3 I guess (not getting my hopes up for him having any chance of winning)! I do at least like all of the top 5 now, Lizzo is the only one not on my big shuffle playlist but still a solid 7/10 song.
January 29, 20232 yr Author #05. Beyoncé - Alien Superstar UK chart run: {16}-33-40-45-62-67-73->7 Points: +122 | Positive votes: 16 | Negative votes: 00 e_aT9pAGQo8 Becoming one of two Beyoncé tracks to enter the chart the same week she had the #1 album - the other in 'Cuff It' eventually reaching the top 10, however this fell off reasonably quickly without a further push. The song was assisted by its interpolation of 'I'm Too Sexy' and it seems that clearly made it a hit with Buzzjack then. #04. Lizzo - 2 Be Loved (Am I Ready) UK chart run: 74-73-71R(4)-58-38-34-28-21-20-{16}-21-20-22-22-52-72->16 Points: +152 | Positive votes: 23 | Negative votes: 00 krdQLzzAeZU Following on from her big top three hit 'About Damn Time' Lizzo proved it wasn't just a fluke TikTok boosted hit getting herself another reasonably sized hit with '2 Be Loved', helped by its 80s production style and big pop hook. It was her 4th to reach the top 20 with a 5th to come shortly afterwards thanks to Amazon Alexa. #03. Tate McRae - She's All I Wanna Be UK chart run: 24-29-28-24-27-27-21-16-16-17-{14}-16-16-16-19-15-19-21-21-26-28-29-62-71->24 Points: +195 | Positive votes: 29 | Negative votes: 00 uS_y_65CcpA With over a year having passed since 'You Broke Me First' being a top three hit it looked as if it may have ended up as Tate McRae's only hit - however she proved us wrong getting a rather long running top 20 hit with this track - a fair bit different stylistically to her breakthrough hit and a bit more to Buzzjack's taste at that. #02. Joji - Glimpse of Us UK chart run: 31-14-{12}-13-16-18-19-22-26-62-74-34R(11)-37-50-67->15 Points: +197 | Positive votes: 24 | Negative votes: 01 NgsWGfUlwJI Japanese singer Joji already had a few big global sleeper hits and so a proper chart hit seemed an inevitability eventually which happened with this track being his first to reach the top 40. Being a singer-songwriter ballad it had a rather mixed reception on the forum however its fans eventually heavily outweighed its haters. It got 10 sets of maximum points, the most of any song in the rundown, and came very close to winning... #01. Tiësto & Ava Max - The Motto UK chart run: 61-70-37R(7)-41-35-33-26-22-19-22-19-17-15-13-{12}-14-16-15-20-23-23-68-66->23 Points: +202 | Positive votes: 29 | Negative votes: 02 1_4ELAxKrDc However Joji was no match for the combined effort of Tiësto & Ava Max. Indeed, it is Ava Max's second consecutive win and her fourth consecutive time in the top three of this contest. Time will tell if she can get another top 20 hit before 2023's end. I won't make it a secret that I much prefer this to the remainder of the top five, so very well done on the taste Buzzjack! Tiësto himself could also challenge for a second time #1 here in 2023 with '10:35' unless that eventually lucks out a top 10 position. The song managed "only" four maximum scores, however it had 29 votes - the joint-most of the contest (with Tate McRae) and the most medalist positions (12s/10s/8s) - 13 of those to Joji's 12. So tell us again Ava how do you like your Italian ice cream? We promise not to censor you! :P Recap: 01 202 Tiësto & Ava Max - The Motto 02 197 Joji - Glimpse of Us 03 195 Tate McRae - She's All I Wanna Be 04 152 Lizzo - 2 Be Loved (Am I Ready) 05 122 Beyoncé - Alien Superstar 06 116 George Ezra - Anyone for You 07 103 Justin Bieber - Ghost 08 95 Liam Gallagher - Everything's Electric 09 89 Joel Corry & Becky Hill - History 10 86 Dermot Kennedy - Kiss Me 11 78 Dean Martin - Let It Snow! January 29, 20232 yr Thanks Dan! Aww so close for Joji but I do really like The Motto too - Ava the queen of the mid tier hit clearly.
January 29, 20232 yr Ava Max queen of the mid table. We stan. :cheeseblock: Yesssss at this justifying that the Motto should have been a bigger hit!
January 29, 20232 yr Oh wow 'Glimpse of Us' just 5 points away from winning :o I was happy to see Joji blowing up with something as I really liked: 'SLOW DANCING IN THE DARK', 'Sanctuary', '777', 'Reanimator' and 'Gimme Love' in the past, this was very different to that sound I knew, but lovely. However... I'm happy with 'The Motto' as champion as it was my silver (only behind Kendrick) - a basic bop I can get behind  Thank you for running this!
January 30, 20232 yr Aww 'The Motto' is an ok winner (took a while to grow on me enough to playlist it but got there eventually) but I am pretty gutted that my 1st and 3rd faves both lost to it by only a few points :( 2nd is great for Joji though considering the negative comments drowned out the positive ones on here a lot of the time, so it's great to know there were so many big fans of it, absolutely beautiful song and pretty sure it was my favourite new top 40 hit of the year. 'she's all i wanna be' was really a surprise favourite for me considering I basically hated everything I'd heard from her before (and not been that much of a fan of her output since either, though I did like 'chaotic' too), but she captured lightning in a bottle for that one song. 'ALIEN SUPERSTAR' initially underwhelmed me a bit but has grown to be among my favourite tracks on Beyoncé's album now. Thanks for this Dan ~
January 31, 20232 yr WD Ava Max finishing top 3 in this 4 years in a row. I like 'The Motto' and gave it my +4, but I wouldn't consider it one of my favourites from either artist. I'm surprised 'Glimpse Of Us' is that much better rated than the other 2 ballads (Lauren/Cian) both of which I much prefer. I'm surprised you consider 'No Excuses' a rap song because I definitely think of it as dance, but comparing it among the former makes its position look much more impressive so I'll take it :P Good to see HAZEY be one of the higher rap songs. I like about half of the batch of rap songs stacked at the bottom but none were higher than my +2 so I can't really complain. Haven't seen those 2000s results before - great to see 'As The Rush Comes' be a winner!
January 31, 20232 yr I'm surprised 'Glimpse Of Us' is that much better rated than the other 2 ballads (Lauren/Cian) both of which I much prefer. Ban
January 31, 20232 yr Aw very close to a Joji win, I saw that hoovering up the 12s (mine included) so knew it stood a chance of winning but Ava Max is seemingly quite the opposition in this particular contest.
January 31, 20232 yr Ugh. I haven't enjoyed anything by Ava Max and The Motto felt like a particularly lazy effort. The love for her music, and for this song in particular, has always puzzled me. Oh well. Don't feel as if any other songs were particularly deserving winners... a weak year for the 20-11 zone in general. Thank you for running the rate!
January 31, 20232 yr The Motto was decent and still get some points from me, but I thought and really wish Joji won this one. :( Edited January 31, 20232 yr by Cow Cow
January 31, 20232 yr Unsurprising to See ava winning agqin, she really deserves another top 10 as everything she puts out is a bop. I was one of the vocal haters of joji xoxo and still am, so dreary, he took anything good you could possibly have in a ballad. Tate deserved top 10 after all those weeks, plus it was my #1 song of 2022 so i'm biased, glad it got a good number of votes here too. Lizzo too, such a brillint song, deserved top 10 over about damn time and especially the christmas flop imo!
