All electronica songs are now locked in and await your judgement.

Apologies for the delays, unfortunately one of our participants has dropped out due to real life commitments.

So we're down to 18 entries but a smaller edition isn't the worst idea (in the world... ever) as we have four songs in the mix that are over 10 minutes long.

Please send your votes to me via PM in the Eurovision format:

02

01 (to your 10th favourite)

Please do so by Sunday 26th February 2023 23:59

Friendly reminder to not vote for your own song.

Participants who fail to vote will have a deduction applied to their entry.

Guests who did not submit anything themselves may vote if they wish to.

I think I might pencil in a listening session for Monday 13th Feb before the BJSC semis are even up, if people are okay with that.

The recap video is a great addition as always. Thanks for putting it together.

Thanks Rollo ^_^ no problem whatsoever!

Some great names in that list that’s for sure, am]nd I can’t wait to assign points to my favourites!

Thanks for your hosting Jade, and I look forward to the listenthrough! :music:

Ooft, I wish I'd thought of The Private Psychedelic Reel, the only one I know here  Fantastic choices with Jean Michel-Jarre and Isao Tomita too, some of the founding fathers of the modern genre!

So I know quite a lot of these but tbh this is my kinda music and the good news is that I like all the ones I know - bodes well for a good contest! ^_^

Same here...albeit I would say I know just about the half of them but still all of them are in 'I like/love' category...with that being said, I am excited to listen to the other half!!!

I've already listened to everything while making the recap, but before that, I think I only knew three songs aside from my own!

#longsongbloc truly coming out in droves for this (I suppose not too surprising given the theme but 4!! songs over 10 minutes wow, hopefully they'll all be worth the length x)

There are two songs here that I am already very familiar with ('Papua New Guinea' and 'The Private Psychedelic Reel', the latter was the closing song when I went to see The Chemical Brothers live  and was previously also in the 90s dance anthems BJSC spinoff which I think was the first time I heard it). There was also a version of the Electribe 101 song in BJSC but it looks like that was a remix while the one here is the original so that'll still be mostly new to me, I can't say I remember it that well from BJSC anyway though, was a DNQ that I ranked bang in midtable. I don't recognise any of the others here by name but lots of other artists here I'm looking forward to hearing new (to me) songs from!

Very much looking forward to this anyway (and *.* at the recap, always love to see those - I imagine it can't have been too easy to pick recap clips for so many really long songs!), happy to go with a Monday evening listenthrough.

I was expecting more underground/unknown songs

Half of these are super huge songs that everybody knows, I could already vote even without listening to the playlist

You vetoed Orbital-The Box but allowed Papua New Guinea, Talking with Myself, Trigger Hippie, LFO, etc??? All are more known than The Box tbh

Considering the demographic here, I think using the term ‘everyone’ is a sweeping statement. Don’t apply your knowledge of songs to others or everyone.

The vetoed songs were either very well known or not quite the genre. We have to have some flexibility with slightly known songs as we don’t demand total unknowns as that would be very hard to quantify.

I hope you enjoy the songs unknown to you. :D

But you only know those because you know a lot of music - nothing on the list is well known to the general public. The mods can’t veto everything or the contest would never happen. They’ve made a judgement call that The Box is slightly too well known and this is what we’re left with. Not everyone in the retro forum has a really deep knowledge of 90s electronica: I certainly don’t, and this will be extremely interesting for me. In fact I actually like having some semi mainstream stuff that I can improve my knowledge of rather than all super obscure. :)
I don't recognise a single song here (other than my own entry lol)

To think we have been accused of letting though songs ‘everybody’ knows

I think Bjork has a fair point but it will always be there in the contests in here. I know loads of them but we always said that this wasn’t about enforcing completely unknown acts and songs, it’s about being able to have a fun contest with good music that hopefully some younger folk may not know.

It’s also actually quite tough to find unknown old music. It’s not like these days where everyone has access to a method of getting their music out there - realistically there is a comparatively small population of acts in the 90s and earlier to choose from. I’d personally rather a contest that has an enjoyable playlist than an enforced playlist of rare songs that nobody really wants to listen to. Plus it seems like a fair few people don’t know many of these at all so it’s great that they will get to hear such (imo) great tracks
