Forgot to mention that Madonna's average points per voter decreased from 18.62 last time to 16.12 this time, while Gaga's increased from 14.97 to 16.08.

Wow at how close that was! I think I'd probably have given Gaga enough to win if I had voted (the 'Ray Of Light' era is great but I'm otherwise fairly lukewarm on Madonna's discog bar the occasional gem whereas I've generally enjoyed most of Gaga's output) but there are so many people that have said they wish they'd voted so who knows what would have happened if we all had :kink:

I am surprised Rihanna's placement seems to have proven so controversial especially since she actually had more voters than both Madge and Gaga!

Thanks for running this Gezza, even though I didn't vote as usual has still been fun to follow along with the results (and leave comments when I could be bothered to).

She posed for the Sistine Madonna painting in 1513 so she was having success long before 1884 too

Omfg THIS!!! It's an often overlooked tidbit from pop culture!

So me forgetting Lady Gaga did make a difference. She probably would have gotten about 10-15 points and that would have changed the result. But Madonna's discography is so much stronger so the right winner here IMO.

I can't grumble at the winner despite putting Gaga a few places higher, Madonna is an icon who has so many classics from across the ages.

Thanks for running this Gezza! I've really enjoyed it. This was my top 30:

Would probably push Kylie up to 3 and Loreen up a few if I was doing it now.

Echoing my thanks for this Gezza, I've thoroughly enjoyed following it and I look forward to the male and band versions to follow, whenever they come.

A deserved winner in Madonna (she was my 30 pointer after all) but wow @ only 2 points separating her from Gaga! Kylie rounding off the top 3 would have been perfect but we can't have it all x

I cackled

A deserved win though. Madonna has one hell of a formidable discography (especially up to 2005), even if she is a bloody embarrassment these days!

Damn I missed it, no one reminded me

My girl should be on top :hithead:

Thanks for doing this, been fun to follow!

I was a bit annoyed at myself for missing this rate, but my 30 pointer won anyway. Madonna is the ultimate female pop star and paved the way for so many that came after her.

I think my Top 3 would have been

Madonna

Kylie Minogue

Britney Spears

From the Top 10 list, Rhianna, Beyonce, Adele and P!nk would have been pretty low down on my rate

Biggest casualties are Mary J Blige, Ashanti and Toni Braxton.

These women made history and are not even top 100.

RNB whilst not huge on this site , there are many RNB artists above them.

I can understand the latter two but not Mary J Blige. She was literally the First Lady of the r&b revival in the 90s

They've never been *that* big here in the UK though, no? (At least in comparison to their success in the US) So I just don't think outside of their biggest hits, people (especially the younger end of the BJ demographic) are too familiar with their material much. Unlike some of the other r&b ladies above them who came around at a time of social media and have managed to carve out decent followings on this site/across the net.

They're legends in their own right for sure, but I'm not surprised they've not made the top 100.

This was great fun, thank you @ Gezza!! Madonna is fully deserving of that title, truly a legend! (and I won't give my opinions on no.3......)
