41. The Korgis - Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime 186pts

Writer - James Warren

Top points - King Rollo 25, perrobueno 23, Jade 22

I now lose my own 30 point single from the first round. The much covered song, which features an eighteen string Chinese zither, was one of just two top 40 hits for the Bristol group. They have split up and reformed a few times and released a new album as recently as 2021.

24k Magic is great, deserves much higher than that, probably his best song.

Only a few of my small points going so far, though Booyah wasn't far off, I admittedly forgot that existed but it's a real banger. I Like to Move It will forever remind me of the lemurs in Madagascar (a good thing) and Heathens is Twenty One Pilots' best song by far.

Oh '24K Magic' flopping a bit as well - now I'm mad! What do you all have against Bruno's jams <_<

The Korgis were very close to my votes, Fine Young Cannibals' song is pretty good too.

Not a fan of 24k Magic, probably because it’s been so heavily played by stations like Magic.

Those last 3 are unfortunate losses though. Not a Whitney fan but I’m Your Baby Tonight is one of her very best for me - much prefer that to the one that’s qualified in the other semi. Really like Ash generally and Everybody’s Got To Learn Sometime is gorgeous.

54. Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark - Joan Of Arc 112pts

Writer - Andy McCluskey

Top points - King Rollo 24, Liamski689 22, rio309 22

There's no official video on youtube, maybe they didn't film one, so here we have an interpretation of the song by Legs & Co that I don't remember seeing before. They're not in the TOTP studio, it seems to have been filmed in a separate studio, a lot of effort has been put in here. This was the first of two hit singles for OMD about Joan Of Arc. The second one reached number 4.

OK so I gave this 22 points thinking it was Maid Of Orleans 🤦‍♂️🤣

I'd never heard this song until now! Luckily I quite like it...!

Ah blast I had this copied and pasted to sort votes for the next round and forgot in the end oops. 'Joan of Arc', 'It Started With A Kiss', 'Heathens', 'I Wish', 'She Drives Me Crazy' are all great songs that have dropped out here and '24K Magic' is decent as well.

Love 'Goldfinger' although 'Oh Yeah' was better (and remains one of my all-time favourite songs!)

'I'm Your Baby Tonight' is one of my faves by Whitney  her tally of #1s in the US is pretty incredible!

She drives me crazy and Goldfinger the only good ones that have left so far
So I lost my 23-pointer, and I fully expect to lose a lot from my top-10, including #1 (Neneh) and #2 (The Cure). But we shall see how it goes!

37. Whitney Houston - So Emotional 203pts

Writers - Billy Steinberg, Tom Kelly

Top points - AaronTM 22, vibe 21, Lee_J11 21

Whitney Houston loses another song so she will have to settle for just one in the final. This was the fifth Billboard number 1 for the writers, who had also written Like A Virgin, True Colors, Alone and Eternal Flame. It was the last song they wrote together. It wins a tie-break over Knock You Down by 15 votes to 14.

36. Neneh Cherry - Manchild 212pts

Writers - Neneh Cherry, 3D-Del Naja, Cameron "Booga Bear" McVey

Top points - Mango 25, perrobueno 25, King Rollo 20

From 1989, this was the second of five top 10 singles for the Swedish singer. A reworked version, featuring Sia, was included on her 2022 album, 'The Versions'.

Manchild is so good! Way better than Buffalo Stance.

Never realised it was co-written by part of Massive Attack.
