To be honest I’m happy “Chained to the Rhythm” didn’t make it. It’s a good song, but by no means I would rate it among among best ever number 5 singles

29. Blondie - Hanging On The Telephone 225pts

Writer - Jack Lee

Top points - !!! 24, Grandwicky 22, jimwatts 21

Hanging On The Telephone was first recorded by the American band The Nerves in 1976. Blondie's cover version was a hit two years later. The song is only two minutes and 17 seconds long.

My top 5 from this semi are still intact, hope they all hang on...
They didn't all -_-

Blondie got closer than I expected though!

28. What Time Is Love? (Live at Trancentral) - The KLF featuring The Children Of The Revolution 228pts

Writers - Bill Drummond, Isaac Bello, Jimmy Cauty

Top points - Uls2000 24, AH Gold 21, Jason 18

The original instrumental version of What Time Is Love? was released in 1988, the same year as Doctorin' The Tardis reached number 1 under their name The Timelords. This reworked version was the first of five top 5 singles for the KLF from 1990 to 1992.

From 1988, this was the only top 20 single for the Coventry band. They reformed in 2009 and have released three albums since then.

26. Beastie Boys - Intergalactic 235pts

Writers - Michael Diamond, Adam Horovitz, Adam Yauch, Mario Caldato Jr.

Top points - Grandwicky 21, rio309 20, Mark223 20

This was the highest charting single for the Beastie Boys and one of three top 10 hits, with a gap of 17 years from the first one to the third one. The song in 25th place had a score of 252 points so the second semi-final wasn't as close as the first one when it came to the cut off point.

Adore Blondie but Hanging On The Telephone isn’t one of my faves. Intergalactic is my favourite of that last bunch.

I would have really liked Heat Waves to qualify too - realise everyone’s sick of it but I think it’s a really timeless sounding record and I bet it will be more appreciated again in a few years.

^i defo agree about ‘Heat Waves’, right now it’s hurt by overkill but otherwise it’s a fantastic song

Aww, went so close to getting all my big favourites through before *ahem* Crashing x One of my 80s favourites, introduced to me first by Matt Willis in Mr. Bean's Holiday *__*

That's a fantastic set of finalists though, 17/25 of my votes.

Awww no at 'Intergalactic' just missing out, that's a jam! (although fair at there being a bit of a gap to 25th). Voted for The KLF too, not my favourite of their hits but can't really go wrong with any of them.

'Intergalactic' and '24K Magic' were the only ones from my top 10 that missed out here - very pleased in particular to see Panjabi MC making it through, a big fave for me but I can imagine it being fairly polarising so wasn't sure it'd have enough fans here.

re: 'Heat Waves' the overplay definitely soured it on me further but I thought it was pretty meh by Glass Animals standards from the very first time I heard it, was always my least favourite of the singles off that album.

Yay at my top two (Out Of Space and Not Fair) making it through to the final! Though...now I think of it, maybe I should have had Goldfinger as my number one. I'd forgotten all about it until this poll, and have been singing it for days. It really is fantastic. But I suppose giving it two extra points wouldn't have made a difference so...oh well!
Boo at Crash and Intergalactic going out at the last moment. Still, a far better set of qualifying songs from this semi than the other one
"Crash" was actually a rediscovery here. I first knew the Matt Willis cover from Mr. Bean's Holiday, but started to learn it's Primitives' song last week. Shame it didn't qualify.

Urgh what an awful end to the results. Recount them and make Crash and Intergalactic qualify!
