March 9, 20232 yr The streaming version of this has the god-awful spoken word part omitted which I’m hoping will be the case for the performance. She’s currently sitting at 9th on the MyEurovisionScoreboard app which is good going for a song that was only revealed earlier today. I was about to say I don't recall hearing it on the Radio 2 premiere this morning (unless I'm gravely mistaken, it was very early and I was commuting to work), but it seemed to be there on the YouTube video?
March 9, 20232 yr I think it’s okay actually. Now I’m no Eurovision expert so I’ll bow to those of you who feel it will do badly - HOWEVER I do think people will hear it and feel like the UK have actually made an effort again. It’s a huge step up from the majority of things we’ve sent since the turn of the century when frankly we were just giving off cba vibes. It does kinda sound like a Dua Lipa parody though
March 9, 20232 yr This thread has already exceeded the number of pages last year’s UK entry had… and we’ve not even seen her perform yet. I’ve not taken much notice of Mae Muller before so I don’t know if the rest of her music is the same but it does feel like the type of generic sound that does well in the charts over here so I wouldn’t be surprised to see it do well. I didn’t follow any of the rumours up until now so I’ve no idea who the other contenders were but I think that it could do reasonably well in Eurovision 2023. As the host nation would she be the first artist to perform on the night?
March 9, 20232 yr This is giving much Mabel album track but I kind of like it for a basic bop, but I'd be kidding myself if I thought it was going to do well at all. I think she has the same awkward energy that Mabel has too. I do feel bad for Mae though, it's not her fault and she's wrongfully getting so much hate. Low key Rina should've known better than to tease so much 👀
March 9, 20232 yr Pretty sure Rina was in the running, and she's annoyed she got passed up. Her 3 minute version of Holy is coming out tomorrow
March 9, 20232 yr This is strong. It’s not doing anything new, but it’s a solid example of fem-pop and not unlike something Mabel would do (albeit Mae is likely a better vocalist and more charisma). I’m chuffed with this and it has the basis for a solid top ten finisher with eye-popping staging. TaP wont put their name to a half-arsed presentation. I’m surprised how lukewarm this is being received here. Edited March 9, 20232 yr by ScottyEm
March 9, 20232 yr 2010+ Rankings: 10.0 Blue - I Can 10.0 Molly - Children of the Universe 07.5 Lucie Jones - Never Give Up On You 07.0 Sam Ryder - Space Man 07.0 Michael Rice - Bigger Than Us > Please be quiet. I have a big soft spot for this one! < 06.5 Mae Muller - I Wrote A Song > I don't mind it. But it's not really something I go to listen to, even outside of Eurovision. < 06.5 James Newman - My Last Breath 05.5 James Newman - Embers > The song is decent in studio form... *shrugs* < 04.5 SuRie - Storm 04.0 Bonnie Tyler - Believe In Me 04.0 Electro Velvet - Still in Love With You 03.5 Joe & Jake - You're Not Alone 02.0 Englebert Humperdink - Love Will Set You Free 00.0 Josh Dubovie - That Sounds Good to Me > THE IRONY <
March 9, 20232 yr Pretty sure Rina was in the running, and she's annoyed she got passed up. Her 3 minute version of Holy is coming out tomorrow  So bitter - I appreciate being disappointed to not be selected however the amount of trolling and now releasing an ESC edited version, really nice of her to support a fellow female musician and the hate that’s followed. (It’s actually made Rina fans/supporters look awful tbh - posts on the official announcement calling Mae an old s!ag followed by we want Rina - nice!). I’m surprised how lukewarm this is being received here. This - looking elsewhere (YT, socials etc.,) it seems the majority of hate is from team Buzzjack.

The way you've actually taken a troll post on here so seriously... I highly doubt that Rina actually was in talks to even be in Eurovision and that it was just trolls (her included) trolling the shit out of a fan theory. I'm going to guess she isn't disappointed at not being selected... coz she probably didn't even put anything forward to be selected... plus the screenshot of the credits for the edited version of 'Holy' going around have been proven to be false/photoshop, no? The only thing Rina is guilty of is playing into the rumour a bit *too* much, but honestly, who truly gives a shit? She can do whatever she wants???
March 9, 20232 yr Rina being called bitter is unnecessary, the Holy 3 minute version is fake (it's not out in New Zealand when it would be by now) and there's truly no indicator that she was ever really in the running or that she's annoyed. The behaviour of her fans is nothing to do with her (and her playing into the rumour doesn't condone any nastiness from her fans towards Mae, even if they're allowed to be disappointed).
March 9, 20232 yr The YouTube comments for this *.* No.1 on iTunes is great to see too, I guess it’s almost a given in the low sales climate but still positive. Mae
March 9, 20232 yr It's honestly a lot better than I was expecting based on the comments here. It's a classic Tik Tok chart hit/song I rank bottom 10 in BJSC and forget about it (she's had a few of them already :kink:) and it will never be my sort of thing, but it's at least catchy, quite current and doesn't seem completely out of place at Eurovision. There have been many songs just like this I instantly forget about and they finish top 10. It's nowhere near Josh Dubovie levels of dated. My gut feeling is it's not a big hit, certainly not like last year, but it's too early to say how well it will do - it depends on how good she is live, staging, the amount of promotion and hype she can build and, hate to say it, whether Europe will give us a solid or not. My one fear is it sounds like it's going for public vote more than Juries, it will really need to have a big impact there as if it misses and juries are interested elsewhere, it could slip through the net. Also kinda lolling at this Rina stuff, attitudes haven't changed overnight, a well-established, critically acclaimed artist is not going near Eurovision.
March 9, 20232 yr For what it's worth, I would take this any day over just about anything Mabel has ever put out.
March 9, 20232 yr LMAO. You really have it in for Rina, don't you? Did she attack your family or something, or...??? The way you've actually taken a troll post on here so seriously... I’ve made 2 comments about Rina - one regarding seeing her live several times and this one about her releasing an edit single - I’m not sure how that is ‘really having it in’ for her, it’s a forum where people comment - it’s just always when it doesn’t fit the Buzzjack narrative of stanning X female artist it’s a problem. And correct, Rina can do whatever she wants - her supporters look like absolute w*n**rs on social media though due to it.
March 9, 20232 yr Okay... honestly, this is a banger. My only problem with it, in terms of Eurovision, is that it never lifts. It kind of stays at the same place at the beginning to where it ends up, that last chorus should GO OFF and it just kind of... happens again. I think a few tweaks for the live performance, a few ad libs here and there, a nice money note and this could be elevated. I'm still not sure it's Eurovision friendly but I keep going back to it today, not out of trying to make myself like it, but because it's stuck in my head. So, fair play! Over the disappointment and on to BACKING MAE ALL THE WAY *.*
March 9, 20232 yr Just learned that Mae is the little girl in Mika's 'Grace Kelly' music video, that's cool. Especially since Mika was the host of last year's contest!
March 9, 20232 yr Between Dragons' Den and The Apprentice tonight there is a short segment of Scott Mills catching up with Mae on BBC One

My insiders are reet more often than that x Wait till tomorrow for the 3 minute version, which is just the outro bein removed mainly!! And why did she troll so much if she wss never in the running?!
March 9, 20232 yr Wardy - our place in the running order will be determined by random draw as one of the host countries. I think it gets drawn next week at the Head of Delegation meeting. For those who were thinking the BBC were leaving it very late to announce, I just watched a YouTube video where someone had somehow calculated the best date for a Eurovision entry to be revealed, going by average results of songs selected on each date, and March 9th came out on top. We're winning :kink:
