Whatever their artistic intention was, Boards Of Canada are still wrong for making 'Roygbiv' so short -_- x

Congrats Addy, it is a great song and glad that it was introduced to some new people even if it wasn't a discovery to me personally so happy with that as a winner! (for what it's worth its chart performance was nothing special, I was just under the impression it was one of those famous influential songs that everyone knows even though it wasn't a massive hit, but I think I was just overstating that)

Can Julian save Jester? *_*

19. JulianT was behind...

Electribe 101 - Talking With Myself

12 Ethnicolor 1

10 Smokebelch II

8 Mars

7 Rain In The South

6 Your Face

5 Papua New Guinea

4 Hardly Ever Smile

3 Water From A Vine Leaf

2 Petrol

1 Trigger Hippie

Our final participant is JulianT, who sent Electribe 101, fronted by Billie Ray Martin of 'Your Loving Arms' fame. The group scored a #22 hit with 'Talking With Myself' in 1990. It then made #39 under a new guise of 'Talking With Myself 98'. The song was inspired by an older house record called 'Jealousy and Lies' by Julian Jonah, how fitting when our Julian has sent this one.

Final scoreboard coming up...

(PS I've just got to Jean-Michel Jarre again in the playlist and I'm liking it more on this listen - so far I am feeling like the order of my votes mostly holds up but I should maybe have given this 1 or 2 points, not that it'd change much)

((I will repeat my observation from the listenthrough that the start of the song sounds like the intro to a UK drill song though - someone should sample it if they haven't already ))

(((also lol that the results have just finished when I am only 11 songs into relistening to the playlist)))

That’s me bowing out of this contest for a while then.

How embarrassing.

The final scores are locked in! Addy is of course our winner so a big congratulations once again. He finished in 10th place last time so he's quickly ticked off both ends of the top 10! Julian snubs DJ Shadow but gives 2 points to Orbital which creates our only tie here. Jim ultimately wins out due to receiving one more vote across the board! So this is another near-miss style position for him, after finishing 11th last time, but I'm sure he'll be a lot happier with 2nd - congrats on a first top 10, 5 and 3 all in one go. Bjork impressively earns another top 3 position after finishing 2nd in the first edition. Slacker and LFO switch positions thanks to 6 points for the former, so Daan advances massively from 21st in edition 1 to 4th here, while Wardy in 5th bags another top 10 after finishing 9th last time. As your host, I of course won the inaugural edition and have followed that up respectively with 6th place. Dandy hangs on to 7th, another top 10 position after finishing 4th last time. Ansel remains in 8th, a huge improvement from 22nd last time. Jean-Michel Jarre rises to 9th thanks to receiving Julian's 12, which results in a fantastic rags to riches tale for Rollo as he advances from last place in the previous edition. Lastly within the top 10, Chez's entry drops a place despite receiving 3 points here, but he also improves on the first edition after finishing 14th there. Congrats all.

The Sabres Of Paradise received Julian's silver medal which gives AH Gold an 11th place finish, falling from 6th last time. 7 points for Art Fact puts Dobbo in 12th place which is a rise from 19th in edition #1. Julian's own entry finishes 13th which is a slight fall from 12th last time. 1 point for Morcheeba cements a 14th place finish for debuting participant lewistgreen! Colm marginally improves on last time, as Boards of Canada placing 15th beats out his 16th debut position. Julian's gold medal goes to Isao Tomita which is a bottom 3 placing this time for Suedey instead of bottom 2, progress. Meanwhile Brer does the opposite, a bottom 3 placing last time turns into bottom 2 this time, for Flowchart. We predict he will go in the opposite direction next time! Finally, Jester takes quite the hit as his entry is the first to score the elusive 0 points to date, although he has a top 10 in the bag already from last time.

*all is said with the caveat that this was a smaller contest than last time*

At the end of the day... the positions are only a bit of fun and the feedback speaks for itself, the music really connected with a lot.

I hope everyone enjoyed this contest ^_^ it has been fun to host.

xx

Pleased with a top ten finish! Congrats to Addy (my personal fave winning, we love to see it) and thanks Jade for hosting. Great choice of theme, so many incredible entries!

Well done to Addy! You seem to win everything on here!

Unfortunate for Jester there, it was just a very strong contest and hard to pick 10 songs that stand out.

Thanks Jade for a flawless and efficient results this evening.

Ooh nice to see Orbital sneaking 2nd place at the end there, same as in my votes and meaning my prediction earlier in the thread was pretty close B-) happy with DJ Shadow being top 3 too. I like how Bjork is practically the exact mirror image of my results in this to date - me going from 3rd-to-last to 2nd-to-last and Bjork going from 2nd to 3rd :D (I see Suede being my bottom 3 buddy a second time in a row as well, if only Popchartfreak had entered and come 2nd to complete that coincidence)

If I did make the switch to give Jean-Michel Jarre my 1 point instead of Art Fact as I alluded to in my last post I would have voted for every single one of the top 10 (and even as it is the top 12 is the same songs I had in my own top 12) so wow, ignoring the disappointing result for my own song that is quite the set of results there *.* The Chemical Brothers still deserved better tbh but at least it is a better showing than when this song was in the 90s Dance BJSC spinoff and only came 21st.

Me being bottom 3 again is a bit of a letdown as it actually got a pretty positive reception on SyncTube which gave me a bit of false hope and yet it actually ended up doing even worse than my first entry! Nevermind though, I still think it's a great song and fully stand behind it so it is the children who are wrong. Still glad a few of you enjoyed it at least :jump: (and tbf 6 voters for 2nd last is not terrible, just failed to place in anyone's top 5!)

Thanks Jade for another fun contest with lots of great discoveries / reminders of old classics ^_^ looking forward to seeing what direction Addy will go if he's hosting the next one ~ (and I'm still only up to DJ Shadow in relistening to the playlist but I'll keep on the rest of it anyway x)

That’s me bowing out of this contest for a while then.

How embarrassing.

It'll be a different theme and a fresh start next time though, don't be discouraged!

Congratulations Addy, Papua New Guinea is a great piece of music that fitted the theme very well.

I'm happy with 9th place for Ethnicolor. Thanks to all those who voted for it.

And thanks to Jade to hosting this contest so smoothly and putting so much effort into the running commentary.

Another poor performance for me.

That Orbital track is from my 5th favorite album ever - In Sides. The Box part 2 is still a rush after part 1.

Edited by Colm

Well done to Addy! 'Papua New Guinea' is a classic.

We'll never know how 'The Box' would have fared against it, but finishing runner-up with Orbital exceeded all my expectations anyway, and if that and 'P.E.T.R.O.L.' were good discoveries for you, that means more to me than anything else.

Thank you Jade for hosting this edition, and for your informative commentaries and enthusiasm for the theme!

Quickly checking the spreadsheet it appears I'm the only person who didn't snub at least one of the top 8, nice to feel so in touch with the general tastes of this forum in that way even if my own entry fell on its face

So sorry I missed this, been swamped all of today, but catching up now. I'm pleased with a top 10 for this, seems like I received so many small points but barely any big ones, but thanks in particular to Dan and Jade for changing that <3 This was much of a discovery for me as you all, I love what I know of William Orbit but that's not a lot and I found this on a last minute reddit trawl. Quite surprised to hear it got confirmed twice oops, sorry to whoever that was x

Congrats to Addy, it was a discovery to me at least and it was only just outside my votes but it clearly didn't need them anyway! I gave points to the rest of the top 10 bar one commiseration so no complaints. Jean Michel Jarre and Isao Tomita were great choices from artists I definitely want to check out more from (the latter deserved higher!). POiSON GiRL FRiEND was a fantastic discovery from Ansel (I had that down as Jade actually, though her own song was wonderful too). I already knew the Chemical Brothers song but it was a great choice.

Ooft, poor Jester. Wasn't bad at all (nothing in this contest was), I guess it was just unlucky in such a strong contest with some familiar artists.

Thanks to Jade for the great hosting as always, another wonderful edition of this, looking forward to whatever the next one may be B-)

Thanks so much Jade for running this! Congratulations to Addy for the win and Jim and Bjork on podium finishes.

All my personal podium were actually much further down so particular thanks to Rollo, AH Gold and Suedey for the discoveries I personally enjoyed the most - but there was lots of other great stuff there too. :)

Oh nice results, I take that top 3 finish :)

Really thought Chemical Bros was gonna win it but the winner is an undeniable classic

Morcheeba was my favourite and the best song imo but alas...

Kinda thought I'd given votes to the Jester song, must have changed my mind last minute sorry Jester

Congrats to Addy! Very pleased that Future Sound of London won, one of my absolute all-time faves. <3

Great to see L.F.O. in the Top 5

A shame that Boards of Canada placed quite low though.

I had a couple of interesting unknowns to send here but sadly missed the deadline, I guess I'll save them for the next electronica themed CB. x

Thanks for hosting Jade.

I didn't think that Sabres of Paradise song actually contained (Entry) in the title, I just assumed that part hadn't been removed from the original PM

Very good results on the whole with my top 3 all finishing in the top 5. And a decent showing from Art Fact, a lot of mealworm points there!

And since I've just remembered dandy was curious as to what I considered "mental endurance challenges" they were Smokebelch (found it a little too long), Mars (fun concept but again too long), Ethnicolor 1 (last 4 minutes were great but the first 8 were tedious) and the worst offender being Another Word Explodes (this was legit torture music, sorry Bre!)

Thanks for hosting this Jade, some cool discoveries were made.
