Bollocks to Ed Sheeran’s 20k signed CDs, that was inevitable. I’m actually more interested in that sub 1k gap between Miracle and Miley, if that trend holds up it’s surely the favourite for next week thank god.

Also love to see Lana smashing, as she deserves!!!

Such a busy week for albums - Depeche Mode and FOB could have both had #1’s with better release week planning, and Katie Melua will be pushed out of the Top 10 due it to be such a busy week.

Calvin and Ellie should do CDs next week then - it would then be like back to the early 00s with CD singles determining the no.1 if this happens more and more.

I really don’t see the issue with cd sales they are offering physical product to fans!
Lemar's 7th album looking like it will be his first to miss the top 100. That is a shame to see.
The top 4 album sales are impressive didn't think they would all break 10k this early in the week. Disappointing but not shocking for Lemar though.

Love that artists are releasing physical singles, everybody should

but at the same time I think there should be stricter rules and minimum price

love Freya Ridings but selling the single x 99p + free shipping, it's a bit like cheating, might as well give it away for free

Surely the label must be making a loss at selling singles at 99p + free shipping?

I guess it’s no different to the 90s/00s with labels selling CD1 and CD2 on a 2 for £2 offer - they are loss making but make all the difference to chart positions and album campaigns.

All the people that moan that streaming is killing the charts but then moan because an artists releases Cds is baffling

I think the main frustration is that it’s only people like Ed and Lewis who can sell 10,000s of them for songs that aren’t anything special.

Or at least "nothing special" to some people?

I said some of this in a different thread but it's worth repeating here...

Ed apparently cares about the chart... and lots of other artists (most of who don't stand a chance of making the Top 10 or even Top 40) apparently don't care about chart positions anymore. So Ed puts out CDs or remixes etc to chart higher and keep his albums streaming rate higher so it looks like he's "sold" more and is higher in the Year End Charts.

I guess it matters to his label as a No.1 is better for the album campaign than a Top 3 hit. They are breaking no rules and they are playing the chart game.

In the album chart, acts like Steps or The Vamps etc put out multiple CD, vinyl, cassette versions and fans buys them all and get them a No.1, whilst others acts can't or don't put out so many formats so don't chart as high. Is that really any different?

I compare it to the 80s/90s where George Michael put out an album but wouldn't do promotion and wouldn't appear in his own music videos. Did it stop him being a chart success? No, if anything it became a bit of a "gimmick" and a newsworthy story and got him a hit.

Or acts that would bring out a 7", 12", 7" picture disc, 12" picture disc, two CDs and a cassette. No wonder they had such big hits when fans like me bought one of them every week.

It genuinely feels here that the only reason people don't like it is because it's Ed (or Lewis).

I'd suggest they cost a few pence to make and if in big enough numbers would surely bring down shipping costs. I doubt they are losing money on them.

43 letters in Lana Del Rey’s album title - is that going to be a record for a #1 album?

Nope, The 1975’s ‘I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it’ is longer. There’s probably been an even longer one at some point though.
