Posted March 29, 20232 yr Girls Aloud's Official Top 20 biggest songs ever revealed 29 March 2023 | By Carl Smith May 2023 marks 20 years since the release of Girls Aloud's debut album Sound of the Underground. An LP that spawned four Top 5 singles - its title track, No Good Advice, Life Got Cold and Jump - it truly cemented the Popstars: The Rivals winners as a pop force to be reckoned with, and forged the start of their ongoing relationship with production powerhouse Xenomania. Now, as Cheryl, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh prepare to reissue the record with some previously-unreleased material, we've crunched the numbers to reveal the group's biggest songs in the UK. From the criminally-underrated Long Hot Summer to melancholic masterpiece Call The Shots and the bonkers brilliance of Biology, we've fully updated the girls' Official Top 40 biggest tracks. But before we get into the complete list, let's take a closer look at the Top 5. 5. Jump Released: 2003 Official Chart peak: 2 UK chart units: 446,000 The group's cover of The Pointer Sisters' 1984 track Jump (For My Love) proved a huge success for Girls Aloud, peaking at Number 2 in November 2003. Recorded for inclusion in Christmas staple Love Actually, Jump has been streamed a total of 20.5 million times in the UK so far. 4. Call The Shots Released: 2007 Official Chart peak: 3 UK chart units: 462,500 The second single lifted from Girls Aloud's fourth studio album Tangled Up, the sublime Call The Shots comes in third on the list. To date, Call The Shots has been streamed over 14.6 million times in the UK, and is also the group's second most-downloaded song behind The Promise (currently on 297,000 UK downloads). 3. Love Machine Released: 2004 Official Chart peak: 2 UK chart units: 580,000 Once wrongfully predicted by the group to be - in Nadine Coyle's own words - 'career suicide,' Love Machine is Girls Aloud's third biggest-seller to date. The second single lifted from their What Will The Neighbours Say? album boasts 39 million streams and 127,500 downloads in the UK. 2. The Promise Released: 2008 Official Chart peak: 1 UK chart units: 765,000 Girls Aloud's fourth and final Number 1 single in the UK, The Promise lands in second place on the list. Having won the group a BRIT Award for Best British Single in 2009, the track is actually their most-downloaded ever (with 517,500 UK downloads and counting). The Promise has also racked-up over 24 million UK streams to date. 1. Sound of the Underground Released: 2002 Official Chart peak: 1 UK chart units: 1,028,000 With its iconic opening surf guitar, drum 'n' bass influence and ingenius 'Buy Girls, Bye Boys' marketing campaign, Sound of the Underground reigns as Girls Aloud's biggest single to date in the UK. Having scored the girls their first UK Number 1 single (and a Christmas Number 1, at that) after a much-publicised chart battle against Popstars: The Rivals competition One True Voice, Sound of the Underground has gone on to shift over 1 million chart units to date. The track's been streamed 38.8 million times in the UK - just shy of their most-streamed single Love Machine's total - and remains their biggest physical seller (562,000 copies). March 29, 20232 yr Pleased to see 'Miss You Bow Wow' aka my all-time fave GA song sneaking in the top 40  And 'Not Tonight Santa' a modern Christmas classic at 25  Brilliant top 10 though, Xenomania know how to write a good pop song! Surprised 'Life Got Cold' is languishing so low despite its #3 peak.
March 29, 20232 yr Best girlband EVER. That is all. Interesting to see which album tracks make lowly appearances, although nothing that surprising with all the Christmas songs. 'Revolution in the Head' seems very random!
March 29, 20232 yr I am surprised 'The Show' is as low as their 16th best selling single. Deserved to be top 10 for sure.
March 29, 20232 yr I am surprised 'The Show' is as low as their 16th best selling single. Deserved to be top 10 for sure. 'The Show' has been largely forgotten sadly. :( Although the fact it sits below 'Walk This Way' is scandalous.
March 29, 20232 yr As much as I love a top 40 run down, this could have been a top 20. Poor Busted only getting a top 10 the other week. Pleasantly surprised the loving kind is so high. Loved it on release. Whole Lotta History deserves better. Edited March 29, 20232 yr by GTH

March 29, 20232 yr Author I guess because GA had more albums/singles? And probably because someone at the OCC is a massive Girls Aloud stan.
March 29, 20232 yr And probably because someone at the OCC is a massive Girls Aloud stan. Who isn’t? But busted released 14 singles so top 10 seems Appropriate.
March 29, 20232 yr Honestly such an incredible girl band such a shame they finished when they did they had so much more to give… and they have so much!!
March 29, 20232 yr Girl Overboard, Black Jacks and Miss You Bow Wow being top 40 <3 classic album tracks.
March 29, 20232 yr Author Someone on PopJustice pointed out that every single era has been represented in the Top 10. Such good consistency!
March 30, 20232 yr :cheeseblock: Incredible to have a Girls Aloud Top 40 list! Particularly great to have confirmation that they now have a million seller. I just wish they could have gone lower than the Top 5 in providing sales data. Summarising the data: Combined Sales 01. 1,028,000 - Sound of the Underground 02. 765,000 - The Promise 03. 580,000 - Love Machine 04. 462,500 - Call the Shots 05. 446,000 - Jump Downloads 517,500 - The Promise 297,000 - Call the Shots 127,500 - Love Machine (Note: On 17th December 2015, OCC revealed that Sound of the Underground had sold 108,831 downloads at that point) Physicals 562,000 - Sound of the Underground Streaming 39,000,000 - Love Machine 38,800,000 - Sound of the Underground 24,000,000 - The Promise 20,500,000 - Jump 14,600,000 - Call the Shots
March 30, 20232 yr 'The Show' seems too low and 'Can't speak French' too high but does for once look like their biggest hits are kind of ranked in order unlike Rihanna or Beyonce say where some tracks which were asbsolutely huge at the time are dwarfed by recent middling streaming hits due to being released in wrong era.
March 30, 20232 yr Sadly The Show has always been a bit on the low side for them! Here are some sales figures for it over the years... December 2004: 73,000 [76th best seller of 2004] December 2007: 89,937 June 2009: 98,955 July 2017: 114,424 August 2019: 124,905 August 2021: 136,000 I'm guessing that The Show might not even be on 145,000 sales at this point.
March 30, 20232 yr Impressed to see 'Something New' top 10 considering how quickly it fell compared to some of the others. 'Whole Lotta History' feels slightly forgotten to me whereas 'See The Day' I remember more and liked so shame they aren't the other way round really. Also one of my faves 'Untouchable' at 15 there. That's a good top 5 there bar 'The Promise' which I liked to begin with then went off a lot in the end.
