Look I know we don’t care about chart positions or anything but f*** me do you want to see us at number 1? Because apparently - and INCREDIBLY - it’s very close for this Friday’s official UK album chart. This is not a drill - every copy counts!

Ah love this and love that they are not throwing discounts, signed bundles etc., at it.

It’s such a solid album that I’ve had on repeat and deserves the #1.

By far and away my album of the year (so far), it's rare that anything I like this much actually does a surprise #1! I was just hoping for top 5 at the beginning of the week.
So, if true, Enter Shikari fall behind (by a fairly significant margin) despite them doing price reductions etc. and EBTG not. I think that's the best evidence yet for my hunch that the impact of price reductions is really quite heavily overstated on here. It's hard to imagine there are really that many people who would buy an Enter Shikari physical but not at full price.
Is it not just based on the artist?

Enter Shikari don't strike me as the type of artists to grab casual "compulsive buys" at a discounted rate compared to acts like 5SOS, Dua, Little Mix or Kylie etc.. though. I don't think it's "overstated" at all. It's just that it has to be by an act who have a following big enough to get word of mouth around and capture the attention of casual buyers.

Agree with this - I’m not sure ES have the feverish fanbase that will buy the pink signed cassettes they have reduced to £6 en masse.

I think discounting does work for all artists to some extent but it varies wildly.

That's exactly what I meant by it being overstated - yes the trick presumably does work better for some artists than others, but we still get the usual 'X artist is going for #1 with discounts' posts even for artists who wouldn't be likely to sell many 'casual' physical sales and so shouldn't be expected to benefit much from discounts.

Enter Shakari going for the #1

iTunes Deluxe £4.99

Amazon Signed CD £6.99

Signed Cassette £6

They’ve also reduced the price of bundles.

Would love EBTG who so far haven’t been dragged into discounting get it.

(and fwiw I don't think Everything But The Girl would benefit that much from discounts either)

Without EBTG discoutning, I imagine at this point it's a question of whether Enter Shikari can get past 15k sales or not.

There was also this post that was basically taking for granted that Enter Shikari have an advantage over EBTG due to their discounting which seems to have not been the case at all.

Obvz I don't have any issue with people acknowledging when #1 contenders have discounts but just saying this week seems to be some evidence for what I've long thought that those discounts are often a fairly irrelevant detail.

Actually there were signed bundles (green vinyl + blu ray + signed poster) but it was limited to 300 (according to my own one, I got #231/300)

It will be the best #1 in ages!

From the OCC:

As things stand, indie-pop duo Everything But The Girl's first studio album together in 24 years, Fuse, currently sits just 650 chart units ahead of alt-rock band Enter Shikari's latest release A Kiss For The Whole World at Number 2.
Following Saturday's 16th annual Record Store Day, Taylor Swift's exclusive vinyl release folklore - The Long Pond Sessions eyes a Top 5 entry this Friday; currently tracking for Number 3.
So pleased for EBTG - really hope they can hold on, was sure it would be a Taylor / The 1975 Top 2 this week too!

Any of those 2 will be great, whichever way it goes it be my birthday track of the year, leaning towards David Kushner though. That will do nicely. :cheer:

Just hope there aren’t any “Missing” sales for EBTG

Yeah, hopefully they haven't got it "Wrong"

Can we put a stop to this before it becomes a thing please as I don't want to talk about it.
