^I just went and check the rules in that PDF from the OCC and the minimum price is actually 40p

so they're smart about it and certainly know the chart rules

What I am really surprised about Ed flopping is that the album is basically Perfect x 12 times

but when Perfect came out it was massive and got to #1 for ages and in his discography he's always had

songs like Perfect, Supermarket Flowers, Thinking out Loud

so I'm genuinely surprised people are passing on this

Pitchfork gave him a nice review as expected :)

You haven't even listened to the album have you?

Your desperation to claim the album is a 'flop' 5 days into its release (when it is already the fastest selling album this year) is slightly worrying. Go get some fresh air.

It really sounds nothing like Perfect/Thinking Out Loud etc but sure!

Fastest selling album of the year isn't impressive when no other pop stars of his callibre have released this year and it's only May

He had almost 50% decline in sales in only 2 years. 4th worst reviewed album of the year. FloppedT.

You couldn't make it any more obvious that you just want to hate it because it's Ed:lol: there's nothing like perfect on there plus you just three a number out to guess how many songs are on it didn't you

Isn't this slightly contradictory though if you think about it?

Yeah, out of the plethora of other artists that have released this year none of them are on his level of popularity. I suspect things such as a new Taylor Swift or Harry Styles (maybe even Lewis Capaldi?) album could do higher. Ed Sheeran is now something like the 8th biggest pop star, he was the 2nd biggest pop star 5 years ago. Drake and Adele are in decline as well, it's just what usually happens when you have such a massive peak like that.

The performance of his last album suggested he was in decline, and the performance of Eyes Closed further confirmed that. I personally predicted about 70,000 first-week sales and I think most other people predicted similar. I can't really pretend to be shocked by it. If he did 30,000 or 120,000 I'd have been very shocked for sure and trying to make sense of it all, but this seems about right to me.

I think the worst part of Ed releasing is the discourse around every single one of his releases omg 😭
I'm sure Ed will get over his new album not selling 100k in a week.

You haven't been following his career long then. He is the most fake-humble artist in music.

Has the OCC not set a minimum price for a download sale? 40p is almost free.

I remember years ago - I think it might have been around the time of the RATM campaign - where there were downloads on Google Play that cost 19p or 20p, and they counted towards the charts! Really, 40p isn't that different from the iTunes 59p downloads - and if big artists can lose money by selling 99p CDs, then good on the small acts for finding their own way to play the game!

Not me looking at the midweeks just now thinking Tunde from Lighthouse Family was back with a solo album that was about to go top 3 before realising it wasn't THAT Tunde 🤣

Wasn't it Google Play that used to do an album a week for 99p? You would get random old albums getting a big boost from it.

Yes, I remember several albums getting new peaks due to it (Craig David - Greatest Hits and Jeff Buckley - Grace)

I thought the exact same thing.

Haven't I?, oh. I must do some research on Ed Sheeran then.

Crazy. Reminds me of Born This Way which sold over a million copies first week in the US because it was for sale at 99 cents on Google Play or something.

at least her albums are proper albums in the chart and not greatest hit playlists...

Wasn't her latest one just rerecordings of the previous one though?
