Does this count? Daisy Dares You's debut single Number One Enemy peaked at #13 in 2010. I thought it was going to be much bigger. Didn't it's chart performance lead to the album being shelved?

  • Obligatory mention that Daisy Dares You performed in my school's library so I have her autograph somewhere last I heard she was in a band

  • Considering they were coming off a huge era, #31 was the peak for MCR'S next lead single.

Another from the summer of 2006. Controversially-eliminated 8th place X Factor contestant Maria Lawson scored a major record deal and released her debut single Sleepwalking. A pretty decent debut but only managed to make #20. I think she got dropped soon after.

And another from the same week IIRC. Alesha's hotly anticipated debut single Lipstick was a departure from the R&B/garage sound that made her famous which may have contributed to its floppiness. It missed the top 10, peaking at 14, and the album was ultimately shelved (besides a random release in Japan). I loved this track at the time. wub

Love both of these! Gutted they both performed terribly!

Maria lawsons album was pretty decent, but I suppose the chart performance is what happens when you’re screwed over by dodgy judge voting….

I still like to tell myself she has a very prominent vocal on a massive hit for Gabrielle

I still remember Duffy 'Well, Well, Well' (peaked at #41).

One of the biggest sophomore slumps of this century surely! Literally wtf happened. I know it came out at the end of 2009 when anything X Factor related dominated the charts and electropop/EDM was popular but #41 was inexcusable!

Following on from my mention of Alesha, she released another flop lead 4 years later. It still sounds like noise. tearsmile

Coke advert ruined her credibility.

Weirdly enough I heard 'Well Well Well' in an old Eastenders episode from 2015 I was watching the other day lol.

'Sleepwalking' deserved to do a bit better than #20.

On topic of X Factor Laura White's debut got to #32.

Bands like OneRepublic and Maroon 5 went through a slump too in 2010 before having big hits again, 'lead singles All The Right Moves' #26 and 'Misery' #30.

I remember Laura allowed fans to vote for the choice of debut single out of 4 options via her website lol. I can’t recall the other 3 songs but YSHK was definitely the best of the lot. It’s aged horribly though!

This only managed to sneak in at #40 in August 2006 despite the band/song getting promo on Channel 4 drama Totally Frank in the year leading up to its release. The band split up swiftly after this bombed.

A year later Pussycat Doll made her first attempt at a solo career post-PCD breakthrough. The very limp Baby Love managed to make #14 here but its lack of success in the US (#108) saw her meant-to-be debut album Her Name Is Nicole shelved and repackaged as Doll Domination. lol

Will.i..am was another group member looking to launch a solo career in late 2007. His solo launch ended up being the pretty naff I Got It From My Mama, peaking at #38.

That Will.I.Am song is horrendous.

What was the first song in the post? I can see the video. :(

I loved both of these when I first discovered them in 2009.

I ended up buying both of their albums.

Oh yeah, I remember this being talked about as a potential #1 at the time.

She followed it up with a single called 'Rosie' which didn't even come close to charting, and then that was the last we heard of her.

bratcheeseblock

last I heard she was in a band
