Two albums by Tina Turner are tracking for the Official Albums Chart Top 10 this week, as UK music fans pay tribute to the legend, who died last week aged 83.

Anointed the Queen of Rock and Roll, Tina’s greatest hits compilation The Platinum Collection is her biggest climber so far this week, looking to enter the Top 10 for the first time at Number 8, having peaked at Number 14 in 2009. It could be joined at Number 10 by her former chart-topping 1989 LP Foreign Affair, known for its biggest single, The Best.

But that’s not all, as two more records by the pop icon could also make it into the wider Top 40 this week. 1994 compilation The Collected Recordings is predicted to enter the chart for the first time ever at Number 12, while Tina’s iconic 1984 career comeback vehicle Private Dancer could bow at Number 31, having peaked at Number 2 upon its original release.

Following his arrival at Number 1 last week with the fastest-selling album of 2023 so far, Lewis Capaldi’s Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent is once again in the lead to take the top spot, just ahead of two former Number 1s. Taylor Swift’s Midnights (2) rises thanks to the release of Midnights (The Til Dawn Edition), and Harry Styles’ Harry’s House (3) is back on the ascent as he brings his Love On Tour show home to the UK.

Leading the pack for this week’s highest new entry is Simply Red’s Time (4) which could grant Mick Hucknall and co. their 15th Top 10 LP. This is very closely followed by other prospective high debuts from Mercury Prize-winning singer-songwriter Arlo Parks’ second album My Soft Machine (5), and Sparks’ The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte (6), which could be their highest UK chart peak since 1974.

The 50th anniversary re-issue of Mike Oldfield’s influential debut album Tubular Bells, which originally topped the chart in 1973, is set to send the album back into the chart at Number 9.

Outside the Top 10, US rapper Lil Durk aims for a Top 20 debut with his new album Almost Healed (13), which contains collaborations with the likes of J Cole, Future and Alicia Keys. It would be the Chicago native’s sixth Top 40 collection.

Love that Tina is back with multiple entries - no idea what ‘The Collected Recordings’ one is? Not seen it on download charts etc., so guessing it’s a physical that’s sold well or is having random streams contribute to it?
Was it just me that expected Simply Red to be contending for #1 this week? And also for a Tina Turner album to be closer to the top? I love that 'Foreign Affair' is vying for a top 10 place though, that's probably her best album for me (or at least the best of the ones I've heard in full).

I’m surprised they are as high as #4 tbh - their last 7 studio albums haven’t reached #1 and they haven’t had a #1 album since 1998.

Oh, my bad then, I obviously haven't been paying attention to their previous few chart positions, just always assumed they charted well. Actually I'm shocked they haven't had a #1 album since 1998!

They might have not had a #1 but lots of top 10s, found their discography x studio albums and is pretty impressive, even in the 00s and 10s when they were far their peak days...

I actually thought Simple Red could be fighting with Arlo Parks for #2-3, obviously no one was gonna come close to Lewis's 2nd week

Shame neither Noel or Foo Fighters released on Friday as they would’ve denied Lewis a second week at the top and both album would’ve had turns at #1

It’s actually quite refreshing to see two releases in a row with more than a week at the top for me, after so long of one weekers!

Pity Arlo isn’t on for a good peak£

I'd guess the second compilation will disappear by Friday, the midweeks are sometimes a bit messed up with multiple compilations (happened to Meat Loaf as well iirc).

Oof at none of the new releases even being top 3 in the first mids (although maybe they might have been if we got a Monday update)

Didn't know there was a 'Tubular Bells' re-release this week, cool to have that back in the chart *.*

Is this the first time that the OCC has f***ed up like that?
Padam Padam has crashed the official charts guys

I’d love it if it was the case

Tina Turner's 'The Collected Recordings' is a curious case! It's a 3CD album from 1994, a low-key release that didn't do well at the time. It entered and peaked at #185 on 27th November 1994, only managing that 1 week in the Top 200. Until 2021, when it randomly reemerged on 9th April, spending its second week in the chart at #197. It sold 836 copies in that week - all 836 from streaming. Its total sales were noted as being 92,595. Oddly, despite the total sales being that high, I can't find this album on BPI's site. It should be there as a Silver certified album.

It doesn't seem that 'The Collected Recordings' has ever been digitised, i.e. no availability on iTunes/Spotify etc. Yet regardless, the Official Charts Company has some of Tina's streaming go towards that album on a seemingly regular basis. A bit odd! It's racking up all these sales and is as high as midweek #12 today, even though nobody could access that particular album even if they wanted to - although I appreciate that the songs included on it are being streamed from other releases. Still, it feels extra fake that this particular album is so high up the chart.

The first 2 discs of that release focuses on her songs with Ike from the 60s/70s, and solo rarities mostly from the 70s/80s. They're songs that mostly aren't included on her compilation albums such as 'The Best' and 'The Platinum Collection'. Maybe OCC decided that the streams of her "Ike and Tina Turner" era hits could go towards 'The Collected Recordings'? Although the third disc does include many of her best known hits, so maybe those contribute after all? A shame if there's an odd split between 'The Collecting Recordings' and 'The Platinum Collection', perhaps preventing the latter from being higher than #8.

For a company that set themselves up as being "all knowing" and "special", they sure do mess up at lot on bank holiday weekends. I mean they literally have "one job", to load the new charts on time....
