May 31, 20232 yr Oh I have a problem with the song. It’s just so… bland, boring and just overall really dull. If you put “upbeat 80’s synth pop song” into an AI generator… that’s exactly what you’d get. Also doesn’t help that I don’t get the hype with Harry whatsoever… so 🤷🏻♂️ Omfg THIS tbh :o
May 31, 20232 yr Some of the takes in here Obviously As It Was has outstayed its welcome on SCR since the BRITs, and I agree that the number of resets (manual or automatic) recently have devalued the purpose of ACR, which I think on the whole is a useful tool for the chart otherwise. However, seeing as it's still on SCR, As It Was being back up as high as #3 is extremely noteworthy so far down the line! I remember when it came out, some people here thought it wouldn't be remembered that much a year down the line (a take I thought was questionable even at the time), so it's great to see it continuing to prove people wrong by how massive it is. Nothing can appeal to everyone but I don't think it can be denied how impressive it is to see it back as high as #3 off the back of Harry's tour, it's a testament to how gigantic he is currently, plus the song being so widely appealing. Let's give it a little more credit than "sounds like an AI generation"...!!!
May 31, 20232 yr With all the ridiculous ‘rules’ the OFCC have in place, you would think there would be something in place to get rid of As It Was. There should be a manual anti-reset rule, requested by the label public. :magic:
May 31, 20232 yr I'm in the I love As It Was camp and think it's still amazing and alot better than anything else in the top 40 bar Miracle and Flowers
May 31, 20232 yr I think songs shouldn't go back to SCR more than twice and also shouldn't avoid ACR if they swerved it on the third occasion (i.e. had an increase in weeks 3, 6 & 9 of a given run). Very arbitrary indeed but then again so are the chart rules of today in general.
May 31, 20232 yr Some of y'all are really angry at the staying power of As It Was, tbf great to see a long standing proper smash isn't it? I just think the chart should reflect new music and music discovery rather than just what people are listening to - more like it did in the sales era. I don't care that a lot of people are still listening to the song. You can have the pure streaming chart for that. But the top 40 is for new music. The rules need a radical overhaul IMHO. May 31, 20232 yr All of the hate being directed to As It Was should be directed to Green Green Grass instead. As It Was earned the right to a reset due to increases in performance following the Brits. Green Green Grass was manually reset for literally no reason and did not earn it. Plus As It Was is a far superior song. It's also worth noting that As It Was wouldn't be as high if ACR didn't exist at all which would eliminate the issue of fairness regarding when songs go on to ACR or are reset, and make the charts actually represent what's popular, instead of the OCC trying to manufacture 'freshness' which evidently doesn't work anyway.
May 31, 20232 yr Not a fan of AIW at all I find it boring but think it’s success is based on his brilliant 2nd album and the comeback following that. The chart run is undoubtably interesting to say the least, reminds me of Relax by FGTH or Blue Monday by New Order with its rise and fall 🤣. On the chart rules I agree with Acerben but not sure how to implentment that in the streaming era!
May 31, 20232 yr I really liked 'As It Was' the first 50 times I heard it. But it kind of lost its appeal with the 1000 times I've heard it since then. It is a great song tbf, just massively overplayed and it really has no business being as high as it currently is this far into its chart run (even if I guess its position is kinda reflective of its enduring popularity).

I think its immediate success was partly based on the comeback hype but I don't think that guarantees 10 weeks at #1 and a return to the top 3 following a successful tour...!
May 31, 20232 yr Absolutely disgusting that an artist is being so successful with a song , how date an artist be successful every song should chart for 2 weeks then fall like a stone we demand phreshness
May 31, 20232 yr No wednesday's midweeks with sales ? What's wrong with them this week ?! They'll come in time, they're not always bang on 5:45. This is down to Music Week, not the OCC, so a separate thing to yesterday's delay

But George does get a lot of hate for this on here, no? It’s mentioned literally every week. It’s the exact same problem people have with AIW. A song we’re tired of that won’t go away. So what if it got a reset for rubbish reasons, that was surely good decision making from his label. Absolutely disgusting that an artist is being so successful with a song , how date an artist be successful every song should chart for 2 weeks then fall like a stone we demand phreshness This is a very unhelpful and provocative comment. It’s actually too hyperbolic to even be funny. But this seems to be the way of the Chart forum these days, any time anyone expresses the slightest bit of disdain towards to status quo, and they get ridiculed within an inch of their lives.

May 31, 20232 yr Interesting that Tina's 'The Collected Recordings' has been given the boot, in favour of 'Simply the Best' up to #10! 'The Platinum Collection' is down from midweek #8 to #19. Simply the Best is definitely the most iconic Tina compilation by far, although I personally would have preferred The Platinum Collection to go Top 10 for the first time (its peak is #14). Still a bit of a shame that her streams are seemingly spread across two compilations. If there's no Tina albums in the Top 10 on Friday that'll be a shame. Also what happened to her studio albums! Foreign Affair was #10 yesterday. Boooo.
May 31, 20232 yr Sales still not in yet so I'll add them when they come You're doing god's work, thank you!
May 31, 20232 yr I hope Rema overtakes Harry and Jazzy overtakes React. Mae Stephens has had more than 3 drops in a row yet she’s still on SCR
