May 31, 20232 yr I agree the Sugababes Greatest Hits always seemed like the wrong one to release at the time! A studio album should have been released in it's place to give Amelle more roots in the group. Obviously it performed well and then Change also sold well after it so it worked for them, but I feel like a studio album released when the GH was would have just as well for them, if not better. If only that had happened! Obviously this is a benefit of hindsight thing but I wish they hadn't wasted their time on Follow Me Home as a single. Its release did very little for Taller in More Ways. They could have spent that time more wisely on working on a new studio album instead. I don't think The Singles Collection colliding with Girls Aloud's Greatest Hits was great timing either.
May 31, 20232 yr Yeah for whatever reason they only ever did one Arena tour. Although their 2022 tour did have two „arenas“ on it. I don’t really get why they never sold out arenas. The reaction they get at festivals an the like is mega and so people clearly enjoy the show they provide but yeah it’s never been about „the show“ and has always been about them and their vocals. Tbh it actually wouldn’t surprise me if they preferred the venues a step down from the arenas for the acoustics and more intimate vibes. They fill a small room with waves of incredible vocals and idk it’s just more special experiencing Keisha’s Stronger Ad-libs when she’s 5m away instead of 105m And it’s got nothing to do with Siobhan vs Heidi or whatever. Like regardless of if it was the first or second line up, the 2022 tour would have played the same venues. Aside from a bunch of far too online gays in dire need of some grass to touch, nobody really cares that much. Keisha and Mutya are back and we’re getting absolutely banging performances that are perfectly performed. That matters. And the more people are exposed to Siobhan and the reality of the fact that the girls sound flawless, the even less the general public cares. Sugababes was always all about the three party harmony and never the individuals - which perhaps actually thinking about it explains the lack of arenas. They were never ask distinctly marketed and identifiable as individuals. Perhaps because they were very very young when they first started and because from really early on management successfully played divide and conquer and saw them as replaceable parts in a machine. That’s not something you can say for GA, Saturday’s, S Club, Blue etc
June 1, 20232 yr Also there doesn’t seem as much buzz around them - I know the original 3 piece are back together but Siobhan was absent for 99% of the hits even though the original line up is iconic. They also seem to be selling small venues while SC7, Busted etc., are selling arenas. It feels as though they are in All Saints territory which is a shame as I’m sure the quality of the music to come will be amazing, however if the new album sells well enough and creates interest in future tours then that’s probably their overall aim. I don't think All Saints territory is bad or a shame though, they've just seemed more focused on making music for themselves rather than relying on their legacy to become a nostalgia touring act.
June 1, 20232 yr I don't think All Saints territory is bad or a shame though, they've just seemed more focused on making music for themselves rather than relying on their legacy to become a nostalgia touring act. It’s not a bad thing if it allows them to continue touring etc., I guess I just would have liked a bit more the SB after all the false starts and name battles we’ve had over the years.
June 1, 20232 yr It’s not as if this hasn’t always been their touring level though. They seem to be a big hit right now on the summer circuit, of course they are they’re amazing, and that will defo keep the revenue flowing and build profile for them to keep giving us new music I would hate for them to just become a legacy act who fill an arena solely on nostalgia. I’d rather see them in smaller venues anyway tbh but if that’s the price we pay for continuing to get new music from them then sign me up
June 1, 20232 yr I hope that with whichever label they end up being, they invest into a lead single push and a lead single itself. Even with a minor hit the album will do wonders and may go far bigger than 10-out chart run. Sugababes have a lot of casual / sleeping followers, they just need to reach them. I know it’s an anomaly, but look at what Padam Padam is doing for Kylie and surely will do for her album sales!
August 14, 20231 yr Is a new album coming? Nothings confirmed yet, but they fought for 9 years to release The Lost Tapes so it’s likely we’re gonna get something. See what the surprise announcement at the O2 turns out to be!
