Hasn't that been the case for the last few years anyway?

Also just momentarily misread the title of Dave/Central Cee's song as 'Sphincter' which is entirely fitting.

I've been reading that title in that way all week but didn't want to say. Glad not just me! :kink:

Not really - UK rap seems to be doing on average worse this year compared to previous. Just the biggest two UK artists are collaborating and another one is teaming up with Drake.

The previous rap number one was Dave's Starlight in March-April 2022, so over a year ago. And before that Tion Wayne and Russ Million's Body in spring 2021, again a gap of almost a year.

we literally haven’t had a UK rap song go to number one since this time last year when Dave last released a single, it’s not going to be a regular occurance now it just so happens we get two very hyped collab singles in the span of two weeks.

Also, it is not given that J Hus/Drake can go #1 in the first place.

Spotify Chart Update (08/06)

If both Sprinter and Who Told You do over 1m tomorrow which seems likely, would it be the first time ever that 2 songs by 2 separate artists have done over 1m on the same day outside of xmas? Absolutely incredible to see UK rap (the genre, not the song lol) doing so well at the moment though!

Yeah, there’s far less rap in the Top 40 now than there was around 2018-20.

What kinda charts are THESE for Pride month??????

How gross omg.

This! Next weeks top 4 is looking set to be :puke2:

It is nice to see high numbers at the top still. I just wish it was coming from some other songs/acts.

Spotify:

59. Dominic Fike- Mona Lisa

92. Luude, Bru-C, Kevin Lyttle- TMO (Turn Me On)

94. Bou, Slay- Closer

134. Kali Uchis- Moonlight

New Entries:

6. J Hus, Drake- Who Told You

Re-Entries:

Glad the Jorja Smith song is doing well, great artists!

Re rap dominating the chart isn't guaranteed, Dave is the biggest UK rap artist currently even bigger than Stormzy now imo so his return was always going to be a noteworthy moment chart wise.

So happy Jorja has a hit on her hands, I just wish he wasn't so inconsistent and had massive gaps between releases as well! She could be one of the biggest UK artists otherwise.

I think its healthy and needed for the biggest acts of every genre to be able to be in amongst the top of the charts. Don’t see why rap/urban music can’t be involved in that too. Dave is an incredibly talented artist by all accounts and has been doing great numbers for at least 3 years now. I’m delighted for him that he’ll have his third number 1 single.

As for rap dominating, no I don’t think that will be the case at all as others have pointed out, overall its having a declining presence in the charts compared to recent years.
