I've said it before but I hated the BL era - I duly went out and supported it and bought all the formats etc., but I was :nocheer: from the offset as it's not what I wanted after the euphoric 'Fever era.

However I now absolutely LOVE all the singles that were released, the album overall is still a bit of a hot mess for me but I appreciate the project and era a million times more now than I did at the time.

I don’t think chocolate was a great single choice. Certainly, the album lacked obvious singles choices compared to Fever though.

While I wouldn't go as far to say I hated it (I was a huge fan of Slow), I somewhat agree with this. The two follow up singles I kind of ignored at the time, however, I now love all three, RBW in particular is such a BOP. Slow has gone on to be one of my ultimate favourite Kylie songs too I utterly love it, that Fashion remix is just utter perfection too, I NEED a studio version of it!

It always amazes me that they pushed for an ‘American Sound’ for BL - yet ‘Fever’ went Top 3 and was certified Platinum and of course spawned the US Top 10 CGYOOMH and Top 25 LAFS.

That success proved she didn’t need an American sounding album to have success there

I was so disappointed in Body Language (except the sexy art work)

Even Slow doesn't have the effect on me it does on others.

I do love Red Blooded Woman though.

'Slow' has massively grown in my affections in the last 5 years or so, I'd even go so far as to say it's my favourite #1 now.

'Red Blooded Woman' however has aged really quite badly for me. Hot video though!

Body Language, while it had some great moments, was not a good follow up to FEVER.

Thank you, for this informed content x

Slow is a very inventive and amazing song. It’s a big grower. I remember hearing it at first and took quite a few listens but it’s totally different to the rest of the sound on the album. Never been keen on red blooded women though. I really like loving days - big highlight and would have fitted in well with her Decon era sound.

'Slow' is top 3 Kylie. It's incredible. SO different and extremely unique.

'Red Blooded Woman' was very good. Although, I remember seeing the video everywhere at the time and remember getting bored of it. I do appreciate it now though.

'Chocolate' wasn't for me at the time, but it's aged wonderfully! I really like it and appreciate it so much more now.

Maybe I should listen to this album... Might do a Kylie album listen through like I did with Madonna, but idk if I cba with her 80's stuff

:P :P :P You are welcome!

I fell in love with slow the minute I heard it and remains one of my fave K songs to date. Loved Chocolate, Slo Motion and Loving days . That’s about it. IMHO problem w BL is that it didn’t have an identity at all - and along w KMO is my least played Kylie album.

I didn't hate it but it was completly underwhelming and like kiss me once I tried and tried to get into it but it just never happened. I believe in you and giving you up were such a breath of fresh air when they came after body language as I felt kylie was back on track again.

They clearly were pushing towards an Americanised sound but with mostly UK production, which didn't work that great a lot of the time and honestly Kylie doesn't really suit it.

I know Kylie wanted a Parisian vibe to the whole thing and the music to still have a touch of electro, but maybe she wanted R&B too?

And they even tried it again when they chose to release All I See (with a rapper) in the USA. :drama:

It's the exact same mistake the Spice Girls did with Forever.

Ya and that didn't work either. Both albums are examples of stick to what you do best and don't tailor completly for american success as you will alienate the fans you have

Oh, I almost forgot All I see. No wonder X only went to No.139

To the second single's credit, it did shoot the album back to Top 20 but yeah, after Fever, people didn't expect Kylie to take a left-of-centre turn for her follow-up.

Not quite Top 20, the album moved 41-28-41 in the first three weeks of 'Red Blooded Woman' charting before falling back down the charts. Might not seem too bad in the context of how the album performed overall but I imagine they were hoping for a better return than that, especially as 'Red Blooded Woman' had a few performances and strong radio play (looking at the airplay chart run alone, perhaps slightly better than 'Slow' had).

'Chocolate' did pretty much nothing for the album's fortunes with it barely bobbing back into the Top 100, but I don't think anything from the album would have improved the situation and 'Chocolate' does seem like the most sensible choice. I also agree about the greatest hits and working with Jake Shears and Xenomania on a sound that Kylie felt more at home with w

was a damage limitation tactic from the record company - and I think they were right.

I do love the idea of 'Secret (Take Me Home)' being a single but I'm not sure how Kylie rapping would have gone down at the time.

Working with Jake Shears and Xenomania ideally would have been the material for Body Language and a much more fitting follow up to Fever, it would have been a a nice mash up of fever/light years style material that i think would have done far better than BL, I think parlohone knew fairly quickly that the body language material wasnt getting the reception they wanted or hoped for and possibly lined up Jake Shears and Xenomania quiet quickly for ultimate Kylie.
The best thing to come out of BL (aside from the singles) is ‘Loving Days’ - I think I love it so much as it sounds like it could have slotted into the IP era rather than BL.
